The sound of running footsteps echoes....
SCOTT SUMMERS (Josh Hutcherson) is running, pushing his way through the crowd, trying to get out of the school. He runs toward the first exit he sees, which was the wrong exit.
Scott exits the school, but is trapped in a closed in courtyard area used for concealing trash. There’s a gate door, but it’s locked, and he doesn’t know the combination. The other two gang members exit the doors to the school and are now facing Scott.
Trevor’s gonna KILL you…
Scott, panicked, looks around for a way out.
HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!
Scott’s cries for help are muffled by one of the gang, who grabs Scott and puts his hand over Scott’s mouth. Trevor exits the building.
Trevor approaches Scott.
I’m gonna use you to send a message to your brother… I’m not afraid of him.
Trevor punches Scott in the stomach, while the other guy holds him.
I’ve had enough of you.
Trevor punches him again. The other guy releases Scott as Scott crumbles to the ground. Trevor kicks Scott in the face, and then again in the chest. Scott is now lying on the ground. Bleeding from his mouth. Scott is crying, but his eyes are glowing red. Trevor readies his foot for another kick, but ALEX SUMMERS (Alexander Ludwig) steps out just in time.
Trevor turns around and sees Alex.
Looks like you’re outnumbered Summers.
Trevor’s friends turn to Alex. Trevor turns back to Scott.
I think one more kick should finish you off.
Trevor aims his foot at Scotts head, and gets ready to stomp down on Scott’s head. That’s when Scott’s mutation kick in. Suddenly, a big blast of red shoots out from Scott’s eyes. It’s constant, it’s massively destructive, and it slams into Trevor’s body, sending him flying. Wherever Scott looks, the blast hits. He tries to look at Alex, but the light hits the two other gang member kids instead. Alex hits the ground, trying to avoid the blast.
Scott has shattered glass in the windows facing the trash compactor. Soon, others will arrive.
I don’t know how to make it stop.
Suddenly, the lock that Scott couldn’t open flies off the door. A terrified Scott hears a voice.
It’s OK… I’m here to help you.
The red blast begins to dim, and within a few seconds, it’s gone.
As the cloud of dust settles with the debris. CHARLES XAVIER (Jude Law) and ERIK LENSHERR (Kevin McKidd) step into the hallway.
Who are you?
I’m Charles Xavier.
EXT. XAVIER SCHOOL
Alex and Scott are standing in front of Xavier’s School, out on the front lawn. They stand in amazement at the facility. It’s five stories tall, and built like an impressive castle. There is a center part of the building that breaks off on either side into two wings. Scott turns to Charles.
What is this place?
It’s a school. A place for you to call home. A place where mutants can feel safe.
Alex and Scott look at each other with stunned looks on their face. Magneto notices Alex and Scott are speechless.
Wait until you see the basement.
INT. XAVIER SCHOOL
Alex and Scott walk through the huge entrance of the mansion. Both of them look at the winding staircase to the next level just as a beautiful red headed teenage girl is descending. She looks at Alex and Scott, and instantly, the boys are smitten. Behind her is her best friend, a more average looking brunette girl, but still cute. She seems to get lost a bit behind her. The redhead is JEAN GREY (Zena Grey), the brunette is KITTY PRYDE (Nina Dobrev).
Ah. Jean. Kitty. Come say hi to our newest arrivals.
More new kids?
I do expect our numbers will continue to grow, Kitty.
Jean stands next to Xavier. She studies both Scott and Alex for a moment.
Careful boys, I’m a telepath.
Jean giggles as Xavier rolls his eyes.
The two girls share a giggle
Xavier is sitting behind his desk when Magneto walks in the room. He has a newspaper in his hands and drops it on the desk in front of Xavier. The headline reads “DANGEROUS MUTANT KILLS 17”.
It’s coming, Charles.
Xavier picks up the paper and looks at it.
They’re finding reasons to hate us.
She was scared.
Magneto walks to Xavier’s window and points out it.
THEY don’t care, Charles. They see a mutant spit fire, shoot electric bolts, fly, teleport, shapeshift, walk through walls, whatever it is… and THEY are scared.
We have to show them that a few bad apples don’t ruin the whole bunch.
Magneto hangs his head.
We have to try, Erik.
Magneto looks up at Xavier.
WE shouldn’t be afraid of them…
FAST PACED INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PLAYS OVER THIS
- Scott blasts Pyro by taking off his goggles for a second. Pyro is sent flying 30 feet back and onto the ground. Iceman, Avalanche, and Toad all try to ready their powers, but Scott quickly sweeps his blast over to them, sending Avalanche and Toad flying, but Iceman ducks. Iceman readies his next blast, and sends it flying in Scott’s face.
- Xavier and Magneto are both standing in the danger room, which is the size of a standard gymnasium, They’re watching the footage of the fight. Scott, Alex, and Psylocke enter the room with Moira, and notice that Pyro, Iceman, Toad, and Avalanche are all present.
I’ve seen enough.
Xavier turns around and faces Pyro, Iceman, Avalanche, and Toad.
Bullying will not be tolerated at my school, do you understand me?
Mutants are not your enemy.
- Jean and Scott run out to Blink, who is down on the lawn, unconscious. Her skin is normal now, her hair is normal.
What happened to her?
I don’t know.
Scott tries to pick her up, but he’s not strong enough yet. Jean just decides to levitate her with her mind instead. Scott and Jean walk back inside, levitating Blink.
INT. MANSION- FOYER
Scott and Jean enter the foyer with Blink and set her down gently on the ground. Moira enters the room.
Oh no… what happened.
Where did you find her?
Professor Xavier told me where she’d be…
He told me he wouldn’t be coming back, that something went wrong, and that Blink would need my help.
I’m so sorry.
We’re just going to sit here and do nothing, while Professor X and the others are in trouble?
You’re just students.
But there’s a bunch of us… and we’ve got kickass powers. We can control fire, or ice, or walk through walls, or read minds… blast lasers… I don't want to wait for something to happen. The Professor was doing this becuase of us. To make sure we would be Okay. He needs our help.
So what are you suggesting?
The last thing they will be expecting is us. I say we take the fight to them.
- INT. HANGAR
Forge (Danny Trejo) stands by the Blackbird, looking at his lineup of X-Men. Each student is fitted in an actual X-Men uniform. They’re lined up together. Scott, Jean, Psylocke, Pyro, Iceman, Avalanche, Toad, Shadowcat, Longshot, and Thunderbird. Scott steps forward.
I know I’m new here, and I know many of you may not like me. But whatever you think about me, doesn’t matter. We have a new goal today, and that’s to rescue Xavier, rescue Magneto, rescue Dr. McCoy, rescue Angel. And we should all be on board for that. Right?
Scott looks directly at Pyro.
Yeah. We’re good.
Pyro looks down the line at Iceman, Avalanche, and Toad.
Scott leads the team onto the Blackbird.
- Sinister turns around just as a massive laser blast is sent across the room from Cyclops, knocking him all the way back against the wall, and out of sight.
The rest of the X-Men enter in behind Cyclops. They stand together. The tide has turned.
