Title: Creative Criticism
Description: Thumb up, thumbs down
trax - August 15, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
As someone who does creative around here I just thought a thumbs up/thumbs down thread just for creative (poster etc) work would be very nice to have. I don't usually get alot of feedback on stuff except from the producers or studios related to the work. I think I speak for everyone else who does posters as well
Anyway here is goes:
Red Summer - Thumbs Up
A nice creative campaign with simple but effective posters. The Tom Welling poster was especially good to me because of the slight blur given to the image while the eyes/around the eyes remained sharp. I liked that effect alot in this case. The theatrical poster is also good ( a product of that program sure used?) and simple. The nic cage one seems a bit rough (to me) but it does work. In all thumbs up, good job RS.

Bannion - Thumbs Sideways
The poster is above average, but the site is plain. Maybe a few mroe features (I'm not talking pages, but pictures relating to the film).

The posters and website for WOMAN, POLITICS, & MURDER: A DEATH ON PINE STREET were really well done. Some very top notch work.
THUMBS UP

This is a cool thread.
Let's revive it.

The Eighth Circle -
First Poster: Thumbs Up
Very cool teaser.
Second Poster: Thumbs Sideways
Good, but I've come to expect slightly better from Mark Chua.
Captain Planet -
Earth: Thumbs Up
Good.
Wind: Thumbs Up
I'm excited someone finally is taking this on.
Fire: Thumbs Up
Nice slow reintroduction of the characters. I'm digging this.
Water: Thumbs Up
Got a good buzz score coming.
Life: Thumbs Down
It's supposed to be Heart! This destruction of the integrity of the source material breaks my...balls.
Captain Planet: Thumbs Down
Still angry from previous poster, and Captain Planet just doesn't look nearly as good as the previously introduced characters. My goodwill has been largely sapped.
Something Wicked This Way Comes -
Teaser Poster: Thumbs Sideways
Pretty colors and font, but the image is muddled to the point of frustration.

Something Wicked This Way Comes
Teaser Poster: Thumbs Up
It's a very cool image and oozes style. Reminds me of the style from Pan's Labyrinth. I dig.
The Shattered Orb
Banner: Thumbs Up
Simple and effective.
Video Teaser: Thumbs Up
I love seeing video trailers/teasers and this one is well made and gets me excited for the film.

The Eighth Circle:
Both posters THUMBS UP
Reminds me alot of V for Vendetta and the style works well with the premise.
To Thy Magic
In general THUMBS SIDEWAYS
Don't get me wrong the posters were good BUT this is a Batman flick. Not only is the advertising campaign being done in the final hour but the posters are quite standard for such a high prestige film. I think I was just expecting more. The best one of the bunch is the 'Batman' poster, good imagery there.

To Thy Magic Ferlito: Thumbs Up
TTM Downey: Thumbs Sideways
TTM Macy: Thumbs Up
TTM Affleck: Thumbs Up
mc48 - February 13, 2008 03:36 AM (GMT)
The Man Who Would Have Rome: Thumbs Up
Don Whitman's Masterpiece: Thumbs Up
Lapland Flavoring -- The Diner: Thumbs Sideways
Captain Planet -- Gaia: Thumbs Sideways

Meet Steve - Thumbs Up
Very simple, but effective for what they're doing.

The 8th Circle - Theatrical - Thumbs way UP. A good looking visual poster with a cool logo that sets the tone well, to what I expect the tone to be anyway ;)
Meet Steve - Thumbs down - Doesn't work for me simple as.
Lapland Flavo(u)ring - Theatrical - Thumbs down. It justs looks really bright and confusing (probably how it is meant to look based off the first story) If I wasn't interested in the premise this could have helped turn me away.
