How to buy in a nut shell...

The process of buying or leasing a franchise is very simple. Submit a deal to htgfranchise for the cost you received from the franchise pricer.

PLEASE INCLUDE ALL OF THIS LIST IN YOUR DEAL SUBMISSION:
-Your HTGMDB Name (aka your production company name. If you are unsure check this page)
-Name of Franchise
-Type of Franchise (from this list: Books | Movies | Comics | Television | Video Games | Music | Internet | Stage)
-Price of franchise if different than purchase price

Who are the franchise admins?

-Lucian is the current Adaptation Pricer.
-RS updates the database

Who Should I email about an Adaptation that I want?

No one. Post directly to this board. This way everyone can see what the price quotes are, Who asked for the franchise first…etc. Everything is open to the public (there are no private sales). No PMing the admin for prices.

Leasing or Buying a franchise

Leasing:
You can either have a 3 month Lease or a 6month Lease.

A 3 month Lease will cost you 25% of the total cost of a franchise; however you must release the film within 3 months. If you don’t release a film you have the option of; extending your lease to a 6month lease, buying the franchise, or losing the franchises and your 25%.

A 6 month Lease will cost you 50% of the total cost of a franchise; however you must release the film within 6 months. If you don’t release a film you have the option of; buying the franchise, or losing the franchises and your 50%.

Buying:
To buy the franchise you will have to pay for the full 100% of the costs upfront. You will have no restrictions when you have to release a film. You can even sit on the franchise if you wanted to.

Additional Rules

To stop people from sitting on franchises, having too many adaptations being released and not enough original work, there are be some rules:

*You can buy 1 franchise per calendar month.
**There can only be one 1 film per franchise released every 3 months (no matter who owns the franchise).
***People who don't have enough money to buy the full franchise or people who are only interested in making one film from the franchise should lease it. No need to pay for the full thing when you only are going to use it once. Leasing it would be the cheaper alternative If you are planning on multiple films or you want to sit on it, then buy it

As an example say a franchise “X” costs 200 mill to buy, You can lease it for 50mill for 3 months, or 100 mill or six months.

You can not buy the complete works of an author, filmmaker, singer, etc.

Selling a Franchise:

You are allowed to sell a franchise to another player. This does not count towards your one franchise per month rule. You can only buy 1 franchise per month from the government & can only release one film per franchise every 3 months.

What about Public Domain works?

In HTG, any pieces that were made 70 years ago and are not currently owned are available to use for free. There is no buying public domain works. You have to pay to do a sequel to a RL movie that was based on a public domain film (IE a sequel to Kevin Costner's Robin Hood). Franchises already player owned can not fall into public domain.

If I request a price check, can someone swoop in after its stated and buy it before me?

No, orders will be first come first serve, if you decline the offer or 3 days pass, then others will have a chance to buy said franchise.

Note: If you price more than one franchise per day, the first one is not held for you for 3 days anymore.

I live in the Slums and it says that I can not own possessions, does this include adaptations?

Yes. You need a home to be able to buy franchises.

Who do I pay the franchise fee to?

htgfranchise

Where to I pay the money to htgfranchise for my franchise?

On our Submit a Deal page (linked from the HOME part of the main menu). You will have to log into your HTG username (not your message board name, but the original username you signed up for).

If you do not have a username, click here to sign up for one.

How do I get the money to buy a franchise?

Well, you can release original ideas through a Studio or pitch a movie franchise directly to a studio (we recommend e-mailing or PMing for this method) and see if they will lease or buy it.

There are tons of ways to make money in HTG. One of the quickest ways is to review films in theaters and write a review for the Critic's Corner. Reviews of new films can add up to 10 million dollars for a review if you get bonuses on it. That money really adds up quickly.

If you are not up for reviews, creative companies (making posters, banners and websites) are high in demand as is new articles for our many papers and mags in our journalism career. There is a forum where studios/producers can post looking for a creative company, click here.

Can I buy 50 franchises in a month?

No. Currently, each studio and each producer can only buy/lease 1 franchise a month (unless a franchise lease runs up, than you can renew and not have it effect your remaining franchise buys in the month).

Note:

No PMing the admin for prices.

Any franchise price request over three months old is invalid unless the franchise has been added to the master list. All future price requests will either be added to the master list or given a time limit.

A note about the 72-hour window that you get when you request a price. You have exclusive rights to this franchise for both purchasing and entering into the franchise game.

These rights can be waived or they can be transferred.

Waiving the rights means, as soon as a public post is made by either the original poster or the franchise admin, all players have open rights to that franchise. First come, first served.

Transferring rights to someone else ends your period of exclusivity but the person or entity you transfer the rights to holds your exclusive rights until the original 72 hours expires. No takebacks. Once you inform the franchise admin you are transferring the rights they are GONE. The new rights holders may waive, transfer or use the rights as they see fit. You may be compensated in exchange for transferring your exclusivity rights.

The admin appreciates a link to wikipedia when posting your request. And if you can't find it on wikipedia try to find something that talks about its level of success.
