INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE - NIGHT The sound of the front door opening and closing fills the room. SHERIFF WATERS (William H Macy) looks up once again to see a shadowed figure. He gives a tired smile and stands up from his desk.
A GUNSHOT reverberates through the room.
Sheriff Waters crumples to the floor.
The shadowed figure drags the body out of the room, leaving a trail of smeared blood.
EXT. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - MORNING The fog clears enough for the Elementary school to be seen. The Elementary school is located in the center of the town. The faded red brick seems to glow against the grayish fog. In front of the school stands a tall, Chain-link fence, rusted with age. Zip-tied, spread eagle is the body of Sheriff Waters.
INT. SHERIFF'S OFFICE - MORNING The office is packed with townspeople talking.
CLIVE (John Hawkes) walks into the room and stands in front of the desk. The Sheriff's badge is proudly displayed on his shirt.
CLIVE
I assure you that I will do everything in my power to find the bastards who did this and make them pay.
The crowd slowly begins to disperse.
Once the room is empty, Clive grabs the nearest chair and throws it into the wall.
EXT. LAKE - AFTERNOON LUKE (Dane Dehaan) turns around to see JESS (Mia Wasikowska) walking up to him. He turns back towards the Lake. Jess walks over to him and uncurls his fist before putting her hand in his.
EXT. BARTON HOLLOW - EVENING The papers are posted all around the town. Small groups are huddled around them reading and talking about them.
JOHN (Sam Rockwell) walks up to one on and rips it down before crumples it up in his hand and throwing to the ground.
The crumpled paper rests on the ground before the wind picks it up, showing us the large, bold letters across the top saying "Collection Day".
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT Luke opens his closet and reaches for a box on the top shelf, causing a few boxes to fall on top of him. He grabs the box and sits it on his bed. He removes the lid and pulls out an old blanket and a few pictures, revealing a gun.
INT. HOUSE - NIGHT The wooden door splinters as it is kicked off its hinges. Three shadowed figures burst into the room with guns. John and ROBIN (Mary Louise Parker) run out into the living room quickly followed by Jess and TOM (Ezra Miller), who are panicked. John struggling stops with a quick blow to the head from one of the guns. Robin screams. The three men drag the now prone body of John out the house.
EXT. TOWN SQUARE - MORNING The murmurs of the crowd go silent as they part, allowing Clive to walk through them. Followed directly behind him are John, Derek, Ronald, and Steven, who appear to be beaten, shackled at their wrists and ankles. One of Clive's men walks on to the side of each prisoner. Another one leads and the last, rails behind them, hands ready to draw their weapons at a moments notice.
The men are lined up in front of the crowd.
EXT. GRAVEYARD - EVENING Robin stands over John's grave. The winds picks up.
EXT. LAKE - MORNING Jess stands at the lake. Thunder crackles before it begins to rain. She remains there staring down at the lake.
INT. CLASSROOM - AFTERNOON The buzzing of an old florescent light can be heard as the light flickers on and off. Jess is tied to a large maypole in the center of the room.
