It is soo great that even after a fall or something like that we can all have a laughabout it afterward.
Here is my story.... We were at summer camp and there was this fat black shetland pony named Squishy. Yes , Squishy! anyway here was really notty and he kept bolting and bucking little kids off! So I was part of the more experienced group and they wanted me to try and ride him, and calm him down. So I was like 'ok this shoud be funny!' u see i'm about 5.8 and this pony is like really really tiny. Anyway I got on him and I walked on than all of a sudden he stopped. I squeezed, nothing, than i kicked, nothing, than i gave him a tap with the crop and he bolted! I swear it was so weird, he went of like a mad bronco , bucking and bolting all around the areana. THan finally he through up his hind quarters and bucked me of. I swear I flew all the way across the areana. I thought I was flying. After I got up and people asked me if I was ok they were like"You have to admit though it was sort of funny, u looked like a cowgirl gettting tossed and bucked around by a shetland!" So their it is. I bet we all have hilarious stories. |

here are my funny stories!!
1. before i came to harrogate i used to ride a grey horse named costa. costa was about 12 years old so he was pretty experianced. we were having a lesson one thursday night. it was a really quiet night so all the horses were really spooky and herd all the noises carried from down the street and in the back field, u know pretty much everywhere. well i got on costa and he seemed fine so i began walking him around. as the other girls in my lesson got on their horses the lesson began to get interesting!! a girl named carrie was riding a timid horse named hillter who she used to ride all the time and handeled quiet well. hilter was trotting around the back door when tackle (another horse) gave a huge buck to a friend of mine named sonia and the dirt from his hooves was kicked and hit the back door and made a funny noise. all the horses in the lesson took off but hilter went insain!! gave the biggest buck i have ever seen while galloping around sending carrie flying about a foot off the saddle and landing on hilters neck. she tried clinging with her hands rapped around his neck and her feet flopping on the sides of the saddle. hilter then shyed sideways and carrie slipped sideways and fell with a loud bang on the floor. sonia had already been thrown off tackle. so as i galloped around i saw gypsy twist to the right and tara (her rider) fly off to the left. i was then the last ridder mounted. i tryed stopping costa but he pulled his neck down and i tipped onto his neck and then completely rolled off!!! lol it was hillarious!!! 2. i was riding royal gem in a show and we were doing the equitation class and royal gem took off and ran right into another horse and stopped suddenly and i flew into the horse in front of me lol i got soooo many more but i gtg ttyl bye |

when i rode at my old barn there was this little girl named Tanny and she was really nice but really nervous when it came to riding. this one day she rode a horse named tybalt who was a pretty skittish horse but she had a worker running with him whil she rode so every1 thought it would be ok. after she started trotting him and he spooked a few times she started to get scared and cling a bit. then he spooked and the helper lost balance and fell over tybalt cheyed and bolted bucking tanny onto his neck she clung and clung for five mins then she slipped so her feet were almost all the way off tybalt but her arms were still rapped where they where when he first took off. by this time tybalt was really tired and just wanted tanny off so he went supper fast for a few strides and just planted his back feet and jumped to the right, landed and then jumped to the left and tanny finally fell off.
she was never a nervous ridder after that but i didnt really understand y. |

Maybe she found out falling off isn't so bad...especially if you do it right. Pat says that when you fall off you should land on your feet. I've never quite been able to do that unless you spell feet...H E A D. |

Now in all fairness Gerry, I don't believe I ever said that you should land on your feet!
I believe I mentioned how much fun it is when that actually happens but most everyone I know, myself included usually end up on almost any body part expect the feet....:-) |

Mixed up words? Maybe. Or......just wishful, "land on your feet" thinking......
OR, maybe it means you need to ride again!!!!!!!!!!!! |

wow cool site.
i used to ride at a barn pretty close to where u guys r located now and i have some pretty funny riding stories to share. i had a pretty bad first month riding. i just couldnt stay in the saddle and becuz my family loved horses they wanted me to ride 4 times a week. i loved horses right from the beginning but i wasnt the most natural ridder and i really needed to work on my position and not bouncing around in the saddle and STAYING ON lol!! well my second lesson i rode a little palomino pony named tod. tod was pretty bouncy and when we started trotting around i lost my stirrups right away and we had no one holding our horses so i started to squeeze my knees and legs to stay on. BIG MISTAKE. tod thought i wanted to canter so he jumped right into it when my aunt, who was watching the lesson that day instaed of my mom saw me cantering around pail in the face ran into the arena and called to me saying say on sweetey dont be scared. it was pretty imbarasing and she knew nothing about horses. my instructer was telling me wat to do but then a door slammed in the barn and tod spooked and jumped one way and i slipped and grabbed for his neck but missed and fell. that was my second lesson and first fall the next lesson i had we were trotting around and i lost one stirrup in sitting trot, lost my balance and just fell!! it was sooooooo funny!! enjoy lol bye |

hi,
i need some help with my riding. im a pretty nervous rider and the past few weeks of riding havnt been great to me. my horse keeps getting scared, tripping or being bad and going in thre wrong derections. im not the most advanced rider so im not really sure wat to do about this. the other problam is that i keep almost falling off and i really am afraid that i will fall next time. for example, last time i rode the horse was trotting around and then just broke into canter and bucked and i ended up on her neck crying and the time before that i had my feet in the stirrups but one foot was almost over the saddle. please anyone who knows wat i can do to prevent all this and falling off help me!! thank you very much p.s. i have a riding lesson right now so i have to go. bye |

Sounds like you are doing OK with your riding. When your horse spooks you are staying on. What more could a person ask for. Maybe you have to get a confidence boost. I'm sure there are some techniques your instructor could give you for you to feel more confident in the saddle. My best advice...from someone who hasn't ridden in a while...is....wait for it....here it comes....position position and of course the ever important...postition. I bet others have even better advice though. Let's hear from some of the experts. |

hey ilovhorses!
Gerry is right, POSITION is very important! How did your lesson go on Thursday night? I rode a horse awhile ago and i was nervous because it was my first time on him. He isnt the most calm horse, and so when i was riding him, he kept spooking. My instructor told me that when your nervous the horse can feel it. One week a i rode the same horse. i was feeling way more confident because i rode him before and i knew what to expect. So we were riding and he was being SO good. he only spooked once by the door because of the wind. but i just went along with him and i was fine. all you have to do is stay upright. it really helps! Im actually looking forward to riding this horse again! Later;; P.S If anybodys wondering who the horse is, it was Cash! |

Yeah, he can spook but hes SOO FUN to ride!
My advice is just sit up straight and keep your heals DOWN! trust me it reallly helps, when i have fallen off a horse, my heals and posture always have something to do with it! Hope that helps! Steph<33 |
