J.D. - March 16, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
Its a straight-forward question, noticed this board was set-up so here is my question, I need to get my PC running faster, cause its been really slow. The RAM is pretty good, like 1 GHZ, but it really is ass-fukin slow. NEED HELP.

ram doesnt mean shit..only when u use a lot of programs at the same time..which is why a lot of ram is good...if using a lot of programs at the same time..only thing that does matter is ur processor..3.4ghz is the fastest..u probably have a 2.8ghz which isnt that bad..

actually, RAM does affect the speed of your PC. like how many programs you have running but it is still real fast. Or, the PC how no RAM left so it takes a long time for it to execute them.

i had no clue what you really meant, but having more RAM does make your PC faster. You could try some free junk that frees up yo RAM

Get rid of spyware, clean out your temporary internet files and the last thing you would do is upgrade your RAM or processor.

he means that Programs need RAM to run, if you dun have enuf RAM and open up too many Apps, the PC wil have to wait for the RAM to free up which in turn... slows you down.

A fast Processor and lots of RAM come hand-in-hand.... fo sheezy. :ph43r:

yo Neo..thats wha i said..im my post - " ram doesnt mean shit..only when u use a lot of programs at the same time..which is why a lot of ram is good."..but yea RAM does effect the speed only if you run a lot of programs...but says that he only uses say 10 programs and then you say ur comp is slow..u wouldnt want to buy more RAM cuz that wouldnt do anything..because that guy has a lot of RAM left..and Processors does have a lot of part to this..like say u have a really old comp with a really low processor speed...then u really do need to buy a new processor or buy a new motherbord just in case ur old one cant handle to speed of the new processor..

my freind says to de-frag your PC... what is that and how do you do it?/? btw, thanks for the prev posts.

either defrag ur harddrive or reformat your whole computer while saving the files u want. clean out spyware... stop watching porn.. the usual.

A hard drive is just liek a CD-ROM... or a record player. There is a disk that stores data and a laser that reads the data (except a HDD is usually thincker and bigger, and more complicated).

So when you use your computer for a long time, things get scrambled up, when you open a program the laser may need to move all the way to the other side to get data... kinda like this:

CODE
0---00-0------0------0------0---0-0-----0

The 0=data. When you defrag a PC, the data is re-arranged and sorted to look liek this:

CODE
0000000000-------------------------------

There is minimal space between files and accessing them is faster.

now that actually makes sense...

xKiller7x - March 18, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
oh yea, to defrag a drive, just right click it and choose de-frag.

thanks all for the help
