Sometimes a webpage will link directly to a stand alone image or animation or you get the URL and type or paste it in the WEB page text bar. Press WEB. Or press 954.

Example:

http://www.denismartindale.supanet.com/startrek.jpg

ZOOM IN is either Z or the shifted + and
ZOOM OUT is either M or the minus -

Z and M are easier.

If you keep pressing M then the image shrinks to a dot at the central area onscreen. Press Z repeatedly and the position shifts towards the top left of the screen.

PC users can download various free programs that zoom in and out and also vary in resizing.

See http://urlcut.com/jennifersjpgs for one program yet check other sites for viewing utilities:

http://www.download.com

http://www.tucows.com

Another way to view images is the use of HTML for webpages and online HTML testbeds eg

http://testbed.shows.it

CODE

<img src="http://www.denismartindale.supanet.com/startrek.jpg" width="400" height="300" alt="" border="0">

You can resize in pixels or in percentages. Sometimes I use 100% even though Netgem's TV guidelines recommend less than 100% for width and height eg screen width 640 amended to 638 or 639 and height 520 amended to 518 or 519.

http://urlcut.com/netgemgifs

This demo is fullscreen style sometimes with slideshow click-a-pic links such as shared with the Fantasy Art site galleries:

http://urlcut.com/jennifersjpgs

If an image is more than 520 in height then the Netgem will compress it to fit the TV screen height so that ruins images with lots of text.

Just because an image is not the landscape 4:3 size it can still be sretched and if so it may help to keep to a similar ratio eg an image sized 200 width and 260 height could be stretched to keep that ratio eg 400 width and 520 height.

You will see lots of small images on the Internet and these thumbnails are usually designed for PC monitors rather than Netgem I-Players etc. As long as you can get the URL then you should be able to edit the webpage and resize these thumbnails eg from 120x100 to 240x200. It could depend on how the results look and if you get everything on screen or you are willing to scroll across to beyond the right edge.

The Netgem has two keyboard set-ups eg Menu, My Adapter or My Player, Preferences, User Interface then black keyboard or grey keyboard.

It's the grey keyboard that lets you use the Caps Lock key and use of Ctrl as well as Alt. Six rows of keys. Row 6: key 3 is 603 for Ctrl. Row 6 and key 6 is 606 for Alt. The rest of the keyboards changes to a new layout so check here for comparisons before trying out Alt A to select all text, Ctrl C to copy and Ctrl V to paste.

Extra keyboard images here:

http://urlcut.com/netgemgifs (User Manual)

http://urlcut.com/group3 for the netgem-i-player files, photos and links.

To get a webpage URL: press info then green to save as a favourite, write down URL or select all text then copy text.

To get an image URL: press info then red and open mailbox to get the URL in the Subject Text Section. It works for webpages and lets you email yourself favourite URLs as a backup to your favourites.

Otherwise the URLs are available in the Netgem cache. Press WEB or 954. Type about:cache and press Enter or click Go. Click an image's URL to visit the image so the URL becomes available as shown above.

Several options there and you can check HTML commands for URLs with these:

http://urlcut.com/checkimagesandhtml

http://urlcut.com/checkimagesandhtml3

The first also shows images and their sizes for reference.

I love fullscreen slideshow demos. PC users can press F11 to increase the screen height display and F11 to reset to normal.

Yahoo Groups show photos and offer a medium size display. Click Large to see a better version instead. Even better is when Members upload images to the Files Section as these are separate images. Even better is when they post URLs for images as these let us access easy to use URLs.

Online graphics editors can then resize and crop and rotate images or add borders or effects:

http://urlcut.com/myimager

http://urlcut.com/magick

http://urlcut.com/quickpics2

http://www.flamingtext.com see picture or photo editor also text logo editor

Also check logos here:

http://www.iqauto.com

http://www.glittermaker.com

Amend images here:

http://www.nbswebfx.com

Most of these are not needed by PC users who can use the right-click Properties or right-click View Source options. Set top box users have to try all sorts of workarounds to get similar results. So maybe such info isn't as necessary to you.

An image stored in the USB can be accessed with 954 then storage://d/ then the filename eg from dump.png to 0png.png or from image.gif to 0gif.gif or from image.jpg to 0jpg.jpg and with the Z or M actions on the keyboard you can get a selected area as you scroll up/down or left/right.

Alt plus C sends an email with an attachment image so send a copy to yourself ie your Netgem mailbox. Open the email then (next to the filename dump.png) click the right Netgem I-Player graphic image to save the image to the USB. The USB is accessed so press green then select paste so the image is copied there.

Remember to select this new file (dump.png) and press green then select rename eg 0png.png so you can use the screen capture dump.png filename for future use and view this new file fullscreen like this...

Press 300 to get the black screen/no sound channel background. Press 954 then type storage://d/0png.png and press the OK or Enter key.

The new 640x520 fullscreen tv image appears as before yet showing the chosen magnified area from the original. It can now be used again with Z or M to zoom in or move out. You can use Alt C again to email a new selected area thus creating a new 640x520 image.

I offered these suggestions on the Bush User Group Online Forum:

http://www.bushusergroup.com/forum/viewtop...cID=1488&page=0

June 2006 Update for USB Options

The Netgem I-Player or BT I-Player version allows for an email to include two image attachments though one at a time is easier.

The image can be saved to the USB device on shortcut 957 for Multimedia.

It can be renamed eg

0gif.gif or

0jpg.jpg or

0png.png

to identify its file extension.

From here we learn via the http://forum.netgem.com details we can access the file from the WEB Address Bar on shortcut 954.

The structure for this is that you type:

storage://d/ then the name and . then extension eg 0gif.gif

Press Enter or OK for the image to load as a separate display ie no webpage to host it or resize it with the width and height sizes or add a border.

The resize options are previously explained:

Zoom In with Shift plus = for the + action or press Z.

Zoom out with the Minus - sign or press M.

These actions are better when using the fullsize keyboard.

If not, then try this online workaround:

::::::::::::::::::

http://urlcut.com/netgem-usb-images

:::::::::::::::::::

It has some larger displays for the images renamed or copied as 0gif.gif or 0jpg.jpg or 0png.png

The files can be downloaded to the USB device for test purposes using this utility:

http://urlcut.com/copyfile2

This is a Netgem utility not meant for PC users who simply right-click an Internet image and select Save Image As...

http://urlcut.com/netgem-usb-images

This has an online option which only requires the user to have the images or renamed images on their USB device. The online webpages link to the next, larger image in the slideshow. Otherwise save all webpage html files to the USB device and they will work, too.

Images start at fullscreen TV sizes of 640x520 and increase to 1520x800 pixels.

For other sizes you would create your own webpages and resize the pixel values eg width="1000" height="800" border="0" as explained for:

http://testbed.shows.it

See details here:

http://www.bushusergroup.com/forum/viewtop...cID=1488&page=0

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::

It's just a matter of saving files to the USB drive and renaming images where necessary. The updates offer Netgem users some extra options should they wish to test them out online or offline. Remember that TV channel 300 is a black screen with no sound distractions. Channel 300 helps avoid moving TV images in the background.
