gender // Male

birthday // Spring 18th

race // garif

c u r r e n t | i n f o r m a t i o n

looks // Amadi is bound in muscle, wound up in the dominating frame of the Garif. Like most of his kind, covered in thick fur; his is a kind of plain brown with off-white along the arms and on the stomach. His posture is always cool and passive; something the way he holds himself at the small of his back makes him always look as though he is distant and gentle. You can tell he is strong- not only because of his frame but because of the way he moves. His movements are concentrated and always graceful, but he seems as though he doesn’t want to make any imposing movement. You can tell the way he holds himself makes him look kind; but there are scary things about him that may surprise a person, being his height and built frame, his odd attire, and his mask. Amadi will never take the mask off- ever. Looking for answers in an abyss where you wanted a face is not comforting at all. But his voice can usually win people over, with its soft tone and smooth quality.

Sometimes he appears ragged or dirty or smells funny because he spends most of his time outside, without regard to society, hygiene, or the conditions outside.

weight // 260 lbs.

height // 6’5”

clothing // Amadi dresses with leather, stone, bones, and cloth- tribal wear that he has had for a long time. His shoes are just leather bound around his feet and tying up to his knees. He wears stone decorations where a belt would be, and sparse stone armor on his shoulders and chest. He has leather bound over his forearms. His mask is made of wood and stone- it looks like a gale, a bit eagle-like. See pic for clarification.

personality // Amadi is the same as most of his tribe, yet different- like most people can be alike and different, he guesses. He values the traditions of the Garif and builds his life and everyday rhythms around them- he believes in the immaterial, the natural, puts value on the spirit and the mind, and thanks tangible sustenance.

But Amadi isn’t a very stubborn person at all. He doesn’t seek to isolate himself from knowing the world, because he has a firm belief that he won’t bend to the material ways of the rest of the world. In fact, he is marked by an openness that is surprising for someone from origins of isolation. A big part of his personality is that he wants to understand people, and accepts them as they are. He’s cautious and makes decisions carefully and slowly.

Amadi is a compassionate kind who feels responsibility for other people. His resourcefulness comes as a shock to most people because he’s very passive and methodical; but Amadi is the type of person who could enter a foreign city with nothing of value and find someplace to stay by nightfall. It could be just luck, but he seems to run into good things when he needs them.

Amadi is hip to people’s tricks though he may not seem it- he’s wise and he knows that some people are irritated by his compassionate sentiments and his passivity. He doesn’t blame them though- a world in despair is one without kindness, after all.

strengths //
muscle Amadi has the brute strength of the Garif on his side- he doesn’t need weapons.

eyes like flint he’s very insightful as well, can read into people’s characters easily.

little bit country, little bit rock n roll a talent of Amadi’s that people normally can't guess is that he can hold alcohol very well. He’s never lost a drinking game, so far.

weaknesses //
fool Amadi doesn’t plan things very well...he doesn’t book ahead of time, he doesn’t take enough food along, he doesn’t look at maps...he just guesses intuition will take him where he needs to go.

back down He’ll often go along with somebody else’s plan just because. Unless the plan conflicts with something he believes in, he’ll pretty much leave decisions up to other people, being passive as he is.

line of fire Amadi can put himself in danger by being careless or by messing with the wrong people. Nothing’s happened yet, but sooner or later he’s bound to piss somebody off.

likes //
rain He really like heavy rains- but the kind that pours down like drums and makes a dark screen on the landscape. Probably because in the Giza Plains there wasn’t much of that.

people What can he say, he’s a people person. He likes having company.

travel Amadi wants to see a lot of the world, which is another reason he’s set out.

dislikes //
pressure He hates it when people try to put pressure on him to make decisions or to change his ways. It makes him feel self-conscious.

violence Amadi knows he is very powerful, but he doesn’t see the need for violence, and doesn’t think the gods would approve.

artificial materials Okay. He really doesn’t like these materials. They're so weird to him. He's having a little bit of a hard time adjusting to the world.

fears // Amadi is afraid making a wrong decision. He’s the type of person who feels responsible when bad things happen.

history // Amadi was born into the Jahara tribe. He doesn’t remember much of his formative years; only that he drifted through it happily. Occasionally teased for a soft demeanor, but surrounded by friends, family, and that strong sort of bond between people that tradition makes.

When he came of age, his father and brother taught him to hunt and herd. When
the elders instructed the young children in the lore and tradition of the garif, they took special notice of Amadi for his special brand of wisdom and the way he understood the spiritual aspect of Garif life. He took the rites of passage into adulthood, blah blah blah, same old story.

Nothing much else happened in the lapse between teendom and adulthood; he grew into the person he is now, lived a peaceful life in the plains.

Rumors passed through, breaths of fog blown scattered to wispy fragments by the winds of change and a shook foundation. Just as it had five years before, the village became tightly guarded- ruthless isolation...Amadi thought that somebody should do something, but he also understood that the Garif needed to protect their way of life. But still...

Soon rumors became facts, and they learned of what was happening from traveling merchants- that Ivalice was crumbling into violent decay, and that the outbreak of Mist seemed to drive the destruction- that the Ashe, the royal woman who had visited before, had disappeared, as had the king, Larsa. Amadi dwelled on it for a bit. He knew that negicite could absorb Mist, but that the garif rejected its power long ago; and he felt responsible for helping, or as if a key lay in the negicite. After thinking about it for a time, he made a visit to Great-chief Uball-Ka, to tell him that he felt that he felt he should go in search of a solution to the danger. Uball-Ka was skeptical; he knew Amadi was capable and that he was bound to the customs of the garif, but wondered if he was strong enough to resist the material world. But what was key was that Amadi told him he was going to go; didn’t ask him if he could go. Uball-Ka gave him a reluctant blessing. Some Garif thought that this was a bad idea immediately, but all of them admired his courage, even if they did think he was a little crazy.

He figured a city was the best place to start his search; so he picked up some directions and went travelling. Now he’s in the city of Rabanastre, but doesn’t know quite what he’s going to do next...

family //
Tarifi Otieno His father. An upright warrior who is widely admired. He is an expert hunter.

Akachi Otieno Amadi’s brother. Unlike most garif, has a talent for comedy. He is the only garif who approves 100% of his brother’s leaving.
