Title: How To Paint Mettalic Purple
Karnack - January 18, 2012 02:31 PM (GMT)
So I'm starting to paint up my necron army and decided to paint them a metallic purple as there base colour for the bodies. The problem is I'm not quite sure how to do this >.<
I've tried a few diffrent method's to try and work this out but can't get the shade I'm looking for. Atm I'm painting the warrior's lichie purple with a dry brush of mithril silver, which I actually like the look of give's them a sort of worn paint flaking off look though when it come's to the higher up ranking models, the guard, lord's, crypteks etc don't want them looking so worn to represent they've been better preserved in stasis.
Anyone got anyideas?

I same into the same issuewhen painting my storm vermin, what o did was mix chain mail worth people ink, but alas gw doesn't make ink anymore, maybe another company does, also I remember heating about a company that makes metallic colors. Can't remember there name though

Not sure what kind of metallic effect you wish to achieve, but I have painted some scarab accessories on TK on metallic blue by mixing Tin Bitz with a drop of Enchanted Blue. It takes some experimenting to get the ratio right, but it could be something like 1:4 or 1:5 of blue to tin. As Tin Bitz is quite dark, I'm not sure how purple will turn out, but it could be worth a shot.
If you found a recipe that works, please share. I'm interested to see the results.

The tin bitz with the liche purple worked great! I've now made a wee pot to be used later on when I paint the higher up's thanks for the tip Capraviridae!

Cool - I'd just had the same idea for testing out a Necron paint scheme, and now I know what works. Thanks!
I got a bunch of glowy red plastic rods to replace the day-glo green ones which came in the box, and figured metallic purple would be a nice match for that.

I realize I am late to the party, but I have some spare unopened bottles of Amethyst Purple (and some purple ink too, I think) if anyone needs them. I am looking for a few old paint pots from the same era in trade, but will also trade them for certain models.
Anyhoo, just putting that out there...
