Looks really good! What colors did you use for the purple?
tatz_101 - April 26, 2012 03:32 AM (GMT)
Those are some solid looking spearman, keep it up :)
FinalObstacle - April 26, 2012 04:40 AM (GMT)
Thanks guys! I'm currently working on spearman and 1st chariot. I'll post some more progress pics on here soon if anyone cares to see! And for the purple it's base: Naggaroth night. The edge layer and the chips are: xereus purple followed by genestealer purple. I pretty much followed the guide in the new painting book with some of my own variations.

Like em. :) Nice way of doing the shields.
LevDaddy - April 26, 2012 05:28 PM (GMT)
I think they look excellent!
Are you really a new hobbyist? If those are your first models dude, wow, you're way ahead of the curve. I'd love to see what you do one year from now.

Yes I'm pretty much new I've only been painting for about a month ago. But I've been working on a small 40k and lotr army in that time while balancing school among among other things . This is my 1st warhammer army. I got and painted these guys 2 day ago. Thank you for your positive critism keeping me motivated! I should have my 1st chariot done hopefully tonight no later then tomorrow I'll post up a pic when done! :)
Ps. If your interested ill be posting a pic of my near completed war Mumak for my small harad army I have been working on for lotr. I'll be posting it in the misc painting forum!

Here is one of my WIP chariots minus the crew and side weapon holders and front mount sword. Not to happy with it yet gunna keep at it with the brush.

I started in the hobby almost 20 years ago - albeit I was out again for half that time - but those skeletons look as good as anything I've done. For a relative novice they're very impressive.
Chariot's coming along, but I'd recommend paying more attention to the base: you can see the slots where the horses fit in, which doesn't look good. Make sure to cover those (with sand, flock, filler, etc) before painting in future.

Hey thanks! And yes I see that unfortunately :/ i might try some filler over those slot areas on the next 2 chariots before I base them see if I can correct the problem.

Heres a pic with better lighting. Finished chariot will be up this weekend.

Great stuff, very impressive so far, it looks very good if you just started! I like the colors too, the mix of white and purple on the shield is quite nice.
The slot on the base have already been mentioned, but another thing I could say is maybe use a wash on the gold ornament on the chariot. It's a big piece and would need some more shading.
Otherwise, pretty good stuff :)

Thanks! :) and sure I'll hit it with a wash tonight when I get home and I'll be posting the complete model later this weekend!

Still working on the chariot but in the mean time i wanted to show one of my pretty much completed horse archers. Minus the arm band he has I seemed to over look. I also decided to paint the arrow bag like the shields of my warriors to make a more uniformed appearance! Hope it looks alright! Also unsure if I want to make the bow a wooden color or leave it black with gray lining. sorry for the bad lighting and focus on these btw.

Mioumboy - April 30, 2012 03:20 AM (GMT)
Looking good. I approve the color on the quiver, as I do mine green to match the army :P And I also like the bow in black like your spears, another touch to bring everything together.
Also try to be more aware of those mould lines, particularily on the horse legs! Your painting is pretty solid, but you'll have to get rid of those mould lines to make it look even better!

Very impressive stuff. I like the purple and white. Can't wait to see a whole unit of stuff in your scheme. Keep it up.
Maglok - May 2, 2012 11:52 AM (GMT)
I love the style.
Beware the bases though, can still easily see the slots where the horses are put in.
Ben_S - May 2, 2012 03:43 PM (GMT)
I really like the quivers.
The mold lines are a pain. It seems that they show up more in photos and I doubt they're at all evident from the table top. Plus it can be so hard to get rid of them, particularly on rib cages I find...

*SMALL UPDATE*
