Title: 2x Casket?
Spid - April 28, 2012 08:43 AM (GMT)
I want to know if anyone ever considered fielding two caskets.
I never fielded two myself, but have thought about it against cannons and other stuff, which may threaten to take out my casket early.
This also gives two of their very awesome spell, which is exellent for taking out cannons themself.
On the other hand i'm afraid it will just make my opponenet not want to spend any energy trying to take them out and you will then end up with a 135 points bound spell.
What do you guys think?

It's one of those things that somewhat requires a bit of a shift in how you think about them. Most of the time, you look at the Casket and think- "Hey, we get extra PD from one! Oh, and there's this nifty Bound Spell too..."
But if you looked at them as Warmachines- basically our version of a Cannon, with the PD being a nifty bonus, you can see how we're paying 135 points for something that can do an immense amount of damage without LoS, without worrying about Bounce, and which can jump from one enemy unit to another- one which can take out whatever unit tries to melee it to death.

A rather strange tactic I heard at my friendly local gaming club the other day (after I boasted that when my casket died it took out some shades and finished off a hydra) is taking two caskets and using one to shoot, the other to MOVE up the field as a timebomb waiting to be struck.
Ok the two tomb guard themselves and keeper aren't going to be winning many battles, but the explosion from the casket certainly can cause way more than 135 points of damage.
You'd have to be a pretty ballsy player to pull this off (read:crazy) but its something I'd love to experiment with... might try and borrow a 2nd casket for a couple of games!

It usually works for me, haven't fully added it as permenant but I did take out a catapult and put in the second casket as a warmachine in its place. Tonberry that's a great idea but yeah the balls to do it!

now with 2 Caskets do you get 2 D3 PD rolls or just the 1?

Nope, casket says if you have one or more caskets you get +1D3 power dice, so its only once. That being said you get two shots at the bound spell, and make your opponent work twice as hard to remove the buff from your army.

I tried 2 caskets, but I should add that with the caskets I only had a L4 wizard... It worked fairly well... But still since I added a L4 Light I do better with only a single casket... At 3000 Points I will try out a 3 casket gunline, just for the fun of it :-)

So you have 2 lv 4 mages AND 2 caskets at 3000? Can't find it in me to put that much into magic but if things go well that would be awesome! At lower points than 3000 I don't see it as such a good idea as you only get 12 dice at most, wouldn't be able to cast much even with the casket helping us keep high numbers. When I use the dual casket I use a level 3 or 4 and a level 2 only if I used the level 3. This keeps the dice useful and my opp knows that the casket is coming...oh yes bwahaha! It usually allows me to sleaze a spell or two off before that they would normally dispell. Duh, stating the obvious :P

I can see the usefullness on round 1 or 2. Going for the cannons or other heavy hitters outside their bsb and general bubble. But I tried and it was kinda meh. Since most things will be in combat by round 3 and thus render the caskets usefullness. The potential is good but still. It's all about the opponent, lady luck and the amount of PD you got.
