Title: My Empire Modelling Log

Mioumboy - May 4, 2012 01:57 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, between working on my TK or VC, I also spend some time getting some living models ready for the table! Previously I had no real space to show of my work for the Empire, so I decided to create a log here.

This will be strickly a modelling log for the foreseeable future, I don't want to paint my Empire untill I am satisfied with one of my main army (TK and VC). My TK is the most advanced in term of painting, but I still feel like it's very far from being acceptable, so I have more work to do on my undead before I paint some living things ;) My army will be from Reikland, so it will be mostly white when I start painting, with some green accent (all my army use green).

This first post will be about an "army list" of sort, listing what models I have, and what is done and ready (modelling-wise) for the tabletop. I'll have the following post made to have some group shots of my various characters and units. Obviously many models can be used as dual purpose, like character that can be used as lord or hero, or Achers used as Huntsman or Knightly Orders as Inner Circle Knights, etc, but I will list the basic here.

The good thing about my Empire is that I bought nearly everthing on ebay, either from used lots or even bits-by-bits for some models. I got some pretty impressive deal for some stuff that way, wich was my goal to get a very cheap army.

On to the list;

So to start this log, I took some pics of my characters. So time for some pictures!

From left to right:

-General of the Empire; This model is Borgio the Besiegeer from the DoW range. Got it with the arm already cut (quite cleanly), and was thus ready for a small conversion with a lance from a lance from the 6th edition command sprue.
-Captasus; Made with Balthasaar Pegasus, with the body of the mounted general and some other bitz. Was a blast to do (did it recently), and used what is probably my favorite head from any GW Empire kit yet.
-Grand Master; While my army is (will be when painted) from Reikland, I still had to have this model. I have what we could say a hard on on that model, for no particular reason, I just really love the scult

From left to right:

-Captain; A small model I found on eBay. A femal captain is not something you see on every corner, so I wanted to have her for my army!
-Captain; Captain BSB, limited edition from the army box from some years ago.
-Captain; Captain with Gory Sword. My main opponet is an O&G player, so it was a must have, plus the model is sweet!
-General of the Empire; Captain with Hammer and Pistol. This one looks quite imposing and is more detailed, so he's a prime candidate to be higer ranked, so I'll use him as a General. Plus I love pistol on my characters!
-Captain; New Plastic Captain. Did a headswap, I felt this one needed a closed helmet (I love closed helmet), and found a nice one, and added some plumes to it.
-Captain; Captain made with Greatsword legs and mostly knights bits. Probably my least favorite character, but I still wanted to use those champion bitz somewhere (I don't use them on my knights).
-Captain; Made with the plastic command bits from 6th edition, with, again, my favorite head of the whole range :) He also usually sport the huge round shield with the lion head from the same era.

From left to right:

-Battle Wizard; 6th edition Amber Wizard. This one will be painted red to be a fire Wizard.
-Battle Wizard; Converted plastic mage, no set lore for now, and I'll change the staff top at some point (maybe if I decide on a lore or something).
-Battle Wizard; Same as above, curently generic wizard.
-Battle Wizard; Gamezone Imperial Wizard, this one is planned as another Fire Wizard.

-Warrior Priest; Luthor Huss with brand new forearms and weapon. Got him weaponless, so I had to make new arms for him. The arms are mostly Militia arms (the plated ones), and the hammer head was made from 2 or 3 small part, was very fiddly to make! Will use him as a generic Priest.
-Warrior Priest; Converted Priest made from Flagellant legs and arms, Greatsword torso and head (or was it a Flagellant head?), with some greenstuff to finish his heavy armour.
-Warrior Priest; 6th edition Warrior Priest. So far still the best batch of WP from GW to me.
-Warrior Priest; Same as above, lovely scult.

From left to right:

-Engineer; Steam Tank Engineer.
-Engineer; Converted Engineer from Archer legs, torso and arms from an Handgunner, with an extended rifle for some HLR sniping action!

From left to right:

-Witch Hunter; Heavy convertion fresh from the shop, finished him along my Ushabti horde yesterday! Used 2 or 3 Militia legs, head and torso also from Militia. Arms are from the Archers, cloack and pistol from Pistoliers/Outriders, and a Greatsword's greatsword (weird). The hat is a Reaper bits.
-Witch Hunter; Basic Finecast Witch Hunters, nice scult too, lots of character.

Core Units

user posted image

Halberdiers; Unit of 36 (6x6) with full command. Models are the Perry's War of the Roses Infantry (Bow and Bills). With two boxes I made about 38 "Halberdiers", though I used a few spears in the mix to get that number.
Swordmen; Detachment of 15, current model. No shoeless warrior allowed.

-Spearmen; A nice horde of 50 with full command. Models from the 6th edition starter box, the best State Troops GW have done so far for me. Since I bought them I've been torn between keeping them as Spearmen, or switching them to Halberd (made 2 test models, it's a lot of work). I can't decide, there's always something that make me change my mind when I try to settle on one side!

user posted image

-Handgunners; Two units of 14, each with a champion with a HLR. The Handgunners are from the 6th edition starter box. The champion is a crew member from the old War Wagon, one with a broken plume, I call it a variant!
-Crossbowmen; Two small detachment of 8, or can be combined for a bigger unit. Made from the Militia/Free Company box.

user posted image

-Knightly Orders; One unit (front) of 6 Knight Panthers. Pretty basic, only a few heads converted so they al have closed helmet
-Knightly Orders; Two units of 5 Reikguards (regular Knights, not the new unit, this is going to be confusing!). Might turn them in a single units at some point.

Special Units

user posted image

-Outriders; Unit of 5 with champion. The champion is converted to have a HLR, but that choice is sadly out of the new book :(
-Pistoliers;Two units of 5 with musician and champion armed with repeater pistol. I just love the feel of Pistoliers units, no matter how poor they can be!

user posted image

-Great Cannon; Two Great Cannon. The weird red one is from the board game Battle Masters. I included it because of the nostalgia factor mostly. The crew (and most models from the game) had very short legs, so I have to give them new ones (from War of the Roses Infantry)
-Mortar; Two Mortar. I still have to find an idea for the base for the left one, as it's pretty bare right now! Both have modified barrel (with the leftover cannon of the Steam Tank) so the opening can't fit a whole man anymore. And yes, one of the crew is the powder monkey!
-Helstorm Rocket Battery (I know, it's a rare unit, but I took all my war machines out of storage at the same time); Standard model. The top part is removable so I can switch to a Volley Gun if I want to, though I prefer me some rocket!

user posted image

-Greatswords; Horde of 30 Greatswords with full command. Made from old Reiksguards knight on foot (quite fitting for my Reikland army ;)) and some plastic Greatsword converted and with knights head to look more armored. There's 3 models missing from the back rank, but I removed them as I'll have some greestuff work to do on them someday.

-Steam Tank; Basic Steam Tank. Nothing much to write about, except that I've yet to use it in a game! I still have the HLR from the kit, and will probably add it to the turret, I need more HLR!

Some (predictably) nice stuff here bud. The finecast witch hunter model is a really nice sculpt -such a pity you can't get it in metal though -lol.

BTW- Did you ever post any of your VC stuff?

Mioumboy - May 5, 2012 10:02 PM (GMT)
Thanks Vallah :) The WH is quite nice indeed, mine had some minimal bubble (mostly when you look from the underside), but would have indeed been great if he was metal :P

I did post some of my VC on a VC-related forum (Carpe Noctem), but the army is much more inclomplete than I would like! More half-finished stuff, conversion started but not complete, models stolen to bring to another army (my TK Skeletons and Empire Knights were all previously in my VC!), etc.

If you want to take a look, it's here : Buildind my Lahmian army - Carpe Noctem

teclis - May 6, 2012 12:34 AM (GMT)
wow what a great army! love the warrior priest and the halberdiers!

Mioumboy - May 6, 2012 02:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks!

I was playing with Army Builder this afternoon to get a rough idea of how many point I have with my Empire (about 5000pts), and realised that Captain can't have a lance and pistol, and I modelled my Captasus that way  Guess when I'm doing my second one I'll have to use a sword.

Decadent_Puppeteer - May 18, 2012 10:47 AM (GMT)
The Empire models look really good all ranked up. I'm liking the older spearmen; I think I have some of those in a box somewhere!

It's amazing how much character these models have. It's not hard to see the appeal of the army from these pictures.

Mioumboy - May 18, 2012 08:47 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the old Spearmen are ma favorite troops :) I still have about 20 or so that I plan to convert into swordmen or something like that, with a few of the old multi-part to mix with them. I hope to have enough to make a unit of about 30 to add to my core.

And a small update!

I received my latest bits today, so I now have a lots of 'to-do' for later ;

The big bag is the new Demigryph Knights, but only the knight bits! There's 12 of them in there, wich should make me a nice Reiksguards unit

The smaller bags are 2 captain/general from the new Griffon and the Amber Wizard from same Griffon. Those should make nice mounted models, and I might put one of the Captain on a Pegasus if it fit. They are good source for bitz, so for the price (about 5$ for each rider) they are nice to have around :)

I won't work on them for now though, as I'm still painting some TK and want to keep going since it's rare that I'm in a painting mood!

Vallah - May 18, 2012 08:54 PM (GMT)
Just checked out your vamps over at Carpe Noctem bud -very nice! :)

The vamp and her bodyguard are really nice but I cant wait to see you might do with the Mortis engine/Coven throne. Love that model.

Random question: I liked how you have posted your pics over there (the 'large thumbnails' kinda thing). Is it possible to post pics like that on this forum? I'd kinda like to do that with my stuff if possible.

Mioumboy - May 18, 2012 09:11 PM (GMT)
Thanks :)

The "large thumbnail" thing is a forum feature, when the pic is too large for the board the forum automatically resize it so it doesn't stretch the page. I don't know if our forum version allow that kind of feature or not though, would have to ask around :P
