Title: Fighting Tomb Kings

Have you ever fought a Tomb Kings player while playing Tomb Kings? What was your experience like? What went through your head? How do you think your opponent performed?

If you have fought a Tomb Kings player while you were playing a different army that would be fun to hear about too. ^_^

My very first game of WFB 8th was against another Tomb Kings player; after the game, we were talking about internet forums and it transpires that he posts on here as well! The main thing that I noticed was that many of the apparent disadvantages of the Tomb Kings - low armour, etc - were equalised. The ability to resurrect skeletons mean that both sides' shooting was less consequential - I took down a few skeletons, watched them get back up. He shot ten down, five got back up.

Also: it took forever for the infantry blocks to contact each other.

With dozens of games under my belt, I finally fought my frist game against TK yesterday - with my Skaven. T'was 2000 pts playing the diagonal setup scenario. It was tougher than I had expected (he had no chariots but ran a skellie death star) but ended up with a Skaven major victory. Some highlights:
- TK went first and the casket blew up my cannon right away
- he lost his hierophant on turn 2
- Thanking the warpstone gods for casting the 13th spell = twice
- Cursing the warpstone gods for giving me 2 powerdice and then 4 powerdice on turns 1 and 2
- I failed a lot of fear tests
- Warpfire thrower flung 10" across the line and killed 17 skellies in one shot

- In the end I did not kill the Warsphinx and if the game dragged on longer the TK player had potential to tie the game or win.

I know was a fun game, never played against the same army before at all. And will remember next time to do more focused fire seemed to be the only time I got anywhere in killing something lol.

This is good advice regardless of what army you're up against. B)

Yup, and usually I follow it but spent so long trying to take out his casket with my one of my SSC's I gave up trying to hit it then turned them both on his skele block.

I've only played against Tomb Kings using High Elves a few times. Mind you, I don't play outside of my gaming group and I've played our High Elf player more times per capita than the other 6 members and we're best friends so we at least had a working knowledge of each other's lists.

In any case, he took fairly standard lists each time, I always took wonky ones and I haven't lost to my army using his and this is without using the traditional HE "crutches." I have never fielded a Shadow or Life Mage (preferring Heavens and Beasts) against him and tended to use units he doesn't rate like Lothern Seaguard and Shadow Warriors. I've even lost my Heavens Archmage/General in two of the games early and still won handily with my little Beast Mage with the Silver Wand towing the line admirably.
