Firstly my apologies for this taking so long as with 4 people involved and 2 directly scribing and keeping tabs on the battle report it took a bit longer than expected to collaborate all the data required.
I was lucky enough to have a local gaming store host the game for me which was great for two reasons, firstly it showcases to any local readers what the new shop has to offer to the gaming community, and secondly it gave us a great location that was neutral to duke out the battle. Just a quick spiel about the Dice Spot. The Dice Spot is a fantastic little shop that runs regular wargame leagues, Tcg tournaments as well as RPG nights. It also stocks a large variety of new and second hand gear to compliment all systems of games and if they don’t stock it, it’s never a problem for them to get it in. Open 7 days they have four 8x4 tables for war games and seating for 26 for RPG's and other games plus awesome air conditioning, drinks and snacks. The fantasy scene is a little slow in my area so the owner Al jumped at the chance to host the game which was very kind of him and I can certainly see his shop becoming a hub for the local community and fingers crossed it grows. Volley fire on other Dark Riders by archers, 6 wounds, 5 Dead, Panic Check Pass RBT - Volley on Dark Riders cause 1 wound. 20 Archers + reaver bow volley on witch Elves. 7 Dead. Horde Archers volley on Hydra, 2 Wounds, but saves 1. Seaguard Volley on Executioners and kill 2. RBT - Volleys on Peg Lord, who soaks like a boss. RBT - Volleys on panicked Dark Riders, murders unit and causes panic check on both buildings + harpies. No fails. ![]() DE Turn 1 Dark Elves grant Corsairs 5+ ward and Executioners 5+ ward via cauldrons. Nothing rambles in stupidity. Witch Elves find a stupid forest and the executioners and hydra also occupy forest. Xbowmen take a casualty from the boiling river, this basically prevents anything from moving across that part of the battlefield for the entire game. ![]() Magic: 14 Vs 12 (was 15vs 11 but Annulian Crystal) Flames of the Phoenix Dispelled off corsairs. Blade win cast on Phoenix Guard, failed dispel. 18 Hits! But only 6 wounds and 1 on champ. 2 Models Die. Black Horror on Seaguard Scrolled with Sigil of Asuryan resulting in spell destroyed. Failed Ruby ring cast Miasma dispelled with 9 Dice. Shooting: Shades Kill Great Eagle. xbows vs Silver Helms on 8’s to hit cause 1 wound but is saved. Dragon Breath on Seaguard and archers. 21 Models + chariot hit, 14 dead elves. Toasty toasty. Pass panic. xbows from building on Dragon, 2 Wounds 1 on Dragon, on Rider. ![]() ![]() HE Turn 2 Dragon Charges Harpies who flee, redirects into xbows in building, stand and shoot does 1 wound on dragon, 1 wound on lord (conveniently forgetting about my re-roll armour saves!) Seaguard Charge CoK’s Spearelves charge Pegasus Lord Phoenix guard and characters enter building. White Lions leave building. Bsb gets killed by executioners, they kill 2 others. Executioners break, run 6 archers pursue 3. (I really should have challenged here to protect my BSB) Dragon gets called out vs noble in archer unit. Lord dies but wounds noble with black armour. Dragon guards body, kills noble and 2 wounds. Archers hold. WL deal 4 wounds to hydra, regens them all. 2 wounds on bsb killing him, deal 3 wounds on Cold One Knights. Cok kill 15. Hydra kills 4. Gem of courage to hold on WL. Assassin deals 2 wounds on dragon but no autokill. Dragon kills 8 (stomp of 4) assassin and warriors hold. Peg lord does 5 wounds and takes none in return. Flames of Phoenix on BG – let through kills at least 10 although doesn’t appear to be documented. Vaul Fails. Shooting. Hydra Dies from shooting Peg Sorcerous takes 1 wound from shooting. (Think she was supposed to be dead?) Combat: Silverhelms kill 3, xbows kill 1. Xbows hold. Spearmen punch wood, 0 wounds. Chariot kills 1, chariot runs away 4, spearelves catch on 11. Dragon kills 6 and archers run away whilst dragon watches. Cok kill 8 WL, WL kill 3-4 back. Assassin slots Dragon. 5 Corsairs dies from PG, 3 die from Dragon Lord, 3 PG die, 3 Corsairs die from air swinging dragon (5 1’s to wound) Swordmasters butcher 8 BG, BG butcher 1. Stubborn hold on BG. Peg Lord takes another wound from DP but kills 2 in return, holds. (Forgot about ward saves – sigh) ![]() DE Turn 4 DE – Cold ones stupid, KB on Corsairs. Magic phase: cancelled with vortex shard. Combat. 2 xbw die from SH, 2 SH die, Drawn combat. PGvs warriors, 6warriors dead, 1 PG dies, PG catch and run into CoK. SM vs BG, SM kills BG, Hydra Kills SM and Overruns. DP vs Peg lord. Nothing from DP and 1 from Peg lord. Peg lord holds. (lost to muso) ![]() ![]() 4527 vs 4599 Conclusion: Yes we decided to call it after turn 4! Well a great game was had by all but I would certainly change a few things if/when I do a huge battle like this again. Firstly I think I’d document it all myself as there seems to be a fair few inconsistencies between what happened on paper, what happened on the map and then what actually happened in the game which is a little frustrating but I guess it’s going to happen in such a big game like this and things will get lost in translation so to speak. Incredibly there was only 1 miscast the whole game which blew me away, I figured my opponent would be throwing dice around like his life depended on it especially which access to power of darkness however I couldn’t have been more wrong. So the trickster’s pendant didn’t really come into play like I was hoping. Secondly the Vortex shard, I should have popped it a single turn earlier to prevent the death of my Archmage however you know what they say about hindsight. It looks bad on paper but I think if this went further than turn 4 I would have had it in the bag, I had a full unit of Spearelves coming down the flank, a dragonlord still cruising around, the phoenix guard block and still a strong magic outgoing. Amazingly none of my RBT died whole game which has to be a first but of course my opponent had other things to concentrate on.
