Well the first thing I would get without any hesitation is a scorpion or two. No question about it.

After that I would get whatever takes your fancy from carrion, more TG, another unit of chariots or some more bow dudes.

It's a bit more hassle, but you could probably get a battalion box and a scorpion, then sell off all the extra horsies you have to 'fill in the gaps'. I actually buy all my models off ebay now (mostly 2nd hand since they're all getting repainted anyway). This will save you a lot of money because the core stuff in particular tends to be dirt cheap. Also bear in mind that you can build up your army for a lot less by using non GW models.

If you are building on a budget then I would suggest you decide in advance (more or less) on the list you want to play. This will help you decide exactly what models you need and prevent you spending money on stuff that may not even get in your army once you actually draft a list.

PS. For now I would just use some of the axe & shield dudes as a proxy for TG. Personally I think TG are one of the best units we have, but they are really expensive to buy when you're starting off.

What points limit are you looking to play?

Okey dokey then. Here's a pretty solid 1k list that should do well for you once you get the hang of the tactics.

TG are somewhat unusual in a 1k list because they are quite expensive and every point counts at this level. 1000pts is actually the worst points limit to play TK at because you can no longer use the 'warbands' rules at 1k and you can't take a lord or 2nd rare until 2k. This generally means you come up a bit short in one or more areas.

I've tried to draft a decent list for you without any major weaknesses that requires only the models you already have and includes both the archers and TG you are keen on (a man after my own heart).

Heros:
Tomb Prince - 104
Great Weapon

Liche Priest - 135
Cloak of Dunes
Hierophant

Liche Priest - 168
Staff of Ravening
Steed

Core:
12x Skeletal Bowmen - (Heirophant here or with SSC) - 96

5x light horse (SoRav priest here) - 70

Special:
15x Tomb Guard - 217
Standard bearer + BotUL

3x Chariots - 120

Rare:
Screaming Skull Catapult - 90

Total: 1000pts exactly Damn, I'm good -LOL wink.gif

I'm actually quite pleased with how the list turned out. smile.gif The only thing I'm not super happy with is the unit of 12 bow dudes. Normally I wouldn't field bowmen in units of less than 20 (although a great many do), so you'll need to keep an eye on these to make sure they don't get into trouble. Stratgy wise it's really simple and a pretty good list to learn the basics with (and maybe a few 'tricks' too).

Use your archers/light cav/SoRav (and even the SSC if there's nothing better to hit) to reduce enemy numbers and thin out their ranks a bit before they can get into combat. If you shuffle your TG forward slightly (try not to block the archers LOS) then your enemy will be forced to this engage this top notch anvil. Then counter charge (in their flanks) with the chariots.

Use the SSC to batter anything really nasty your opponent has (often these will be on a monster sized base). This is usually the best target we have for smiting spells in the early game. If your opponent doesn't have anything especially nasty you can use the SSC on his rank & file too.

I'll post a 2k list for you in a bit.

you mean like my ruff plan for that list is use horekhahs
to make my archers and ssc fire and peper the crap out of the bad guys then when they get in close tie them up with horse and as a last resort TG to fall back on

hit certain units with the chariots aswell

as for a 2k list you can go to town remmber i got £50 to update what units i alredy have just dont be to ruff on the bad guys lol

also i agree with the steak
a nice 20oz prime stack is perfect

Almost, but it's actually the other way around bud. Use the TG to tie them up (sometimes called the 'anvil') and the chariots to 'hammer' them in the flank once they are already fighting the TG/Archers.

The light cav should almost never see hand to hand combat. Try to think of them as archers that are quick enough to avoid meelee. Eventuallly though, you will learn how to use them for redirecting enemy units and a sneaky trick to make sure you can always get the charge off with your chariots.

Okey dokey then, here is the promised 2k list. This list was not actually written by me but I was helping out the guy who wrote it and it seems perfect for you. This is actually a 2k tournament list so there is plenty of scope for you to learn all the tricks of the trade here. wink.gif As an added bonus, it builds upon the stuff you already have in your 1k list so you can add a little bit at a time as you see fit.

HEROES
tomb king
destroyer of eternities
collar of shapesh
light armour

tomb prince
chariot of fire
enchanted shield
spear
light armour
chariot

liche priest
cloak of the dunes
dispell scroll

Liche priest
casket of souls
plaques of mighty incantaions

total - 922

CORE:
20 archers
music
standard
banner of the undying legion

3 chariots

3 chariots

total - 440

SPECIAL:
3 carrion

tomb scorpion

tomb scorpion

19 tomb guard
music
standard
icon of rakaph

total - 528

RARE:
catapult
skulls of the foe

total - 2000

This is a great list (Kudos to Outbreak over at Librarium Online for this one). I could point out a lot of the quirks and tricks for you, but figuring these out as you go along is maybe half the fun of it. If you decide you do want a few pointers though, I'd be more than happy to help. smile.gif

No problem mate. Let us know how you get on this saturday, but don't get discouraged if you don't do as well as you'd hoped in your first few games. TK can be a wee bit tricky to get to grips with at first, it just takes a bit of practice.

Necrons too eh? Well they're not exactly my forte' but I can at least point you in the right direction:

This link is for a good a Necrons Forum:
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/necrons/

And this one is a beginners guide to Necrons:
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/nec...de-necrons.html

There is also a really good Tomb Kings forum on that site too:

Must be your lucky day! smile.gif

Yeah, I've seen these before actually (even tried ordering some a while back but their on line shopping cart is just as ******* infuriating and unproductive as everyone elses. angry.gif -Sorry, pet peeve for me at the minute!).

Great miniatures these. If only they were available off eBay I'd probably have loads by now. *sigh*

I see you've ordered a few new goodies bud. That £50 burning a hole in your pocket was it? wink.gif You're gonna love the casket, and everybody loves scorpions...

Just remember not to glue the legs all over your face -rocket scientist style- and you'll be all smiles -LOL

Tips for building the accursed SSC? Yeah, first find a rocket scientist or someone with an engineering degree... wink.gif

Actually the best advice I can give you is to use super glue (obviously) and lots and lots of pins. I use a 1mm drill bit for most work (SSC included) because paper clips are a perfect fit and readily available for the pins themselves.

Next, take it slow. You don't need to rush it and it will be much less painful an experience if you glue on only a piece or two at a time and let them dry properly before you continue.

I would leave start with the dragon bodies and glue the uprights on first. Then fill in the horizontal bars and the claw/arm bit next. Painful experience has shown that adding on the dragon tails (and restraining hook) last will make life much easir all round and help prevent the model turning out a bit 'wonky'.

Once you have the model glued and pinned and you're happy with it then I would fill in the gaps around the glue joins (especially the bottom of the uprights where they join onto the dragons) with green stuff or -better yet- Milliput (use the superfine white one. You can get it off ebay etc and is much easier to use than GS).

As a war machine the SSC doesn't really need a base as such, but it will help keep the model in good condition and a textured base will disguise any wonkiness that creeps in to the build (it's almost unavoidable to a certain extent IMHO).

If frustration starts to creep in then take a break and come back to it later. dry.gif

As for fluff...

This is really a personal thing so it's difficult to help with. I actually did something similar to you and based my army and its fluff on the general (since TKs are all obout My will be done! and the general as the driving force of the army this kinda makes sense to me that everything should revolve around them in terms of fluff).

Have you had any ideas of your own about fluff so far?

Drill a hole in both the horses body and the neck (you might be able to get away with a 1mm drill bit, otherwise you'll need a 0.5mm bit for your pin vice). Then simply glue a pin between the two and fill the gaps with green stuff.

Wow, those miniatures are awesome, I've just finished reading Nagash the Sorcerer and a lot of the miniatures on that site would be perfect for making a mortal army of Mahrak, with the Ushabti that take on the physical appearance of their god.
