Why My Friend Doesn't Use De Executioners, funny but sad (DE opinions wanted)

Hi this is my friends 2 bad encounters with Executioners I usually drag on so I won't post it all at once.

1st incident: Skirmish (DE+Empire Vs Troll)

Me and my friend tryed a skirmish where we had to steal treasure form a troll and leggit.
His force was totally Executioners later he said he intended them with their great weapons to kill the troll. It was bloody as he locked it with 2 Executioners while I grabbed the treasure. Problem 1: The troll regenerated ALL wounds the executioners did and slaughtered them meaning (due to special rule) he had to move toward the model with the treasure therefore pinning us (and a few executioners) in the cave. Funny bit: I left one handgunner to guard the exit but he sent 2 executioners to get him (0% survival chance y'd think) but the executioners spent 3/4 of the battle sprawled on the ground since they were repeatedly stunned by the shot.
Meanwhile: (Massacre in the cave) Troll was very lucky crushing everyone to a bloody pulp one executioner grabbed the treasure and made a break for it but my forces were slaughtering them so him and 2 others (the 2 who got shot) were all that was left.
Funny bit: One of the stunned recovered and charged handgunner- a fast 1turn fight- (byebye) the combat was odd since the Executioner HIT yet failed to wound the handgunner which is hard to picture THEN the handgunner fought back and by hitting and wounding him rolling a 6 on injury chart KILLED the Executioner

Roundoff: Executioners completly slaughtered (the last 2 dispatched by the troll), my forces passed the treasure around a lot but all got slaughtered down to the last militia who fled.

Final Result: Odd= my friend still talks bout the handgunner-Executioner incident
Odder= The troll won leaving us in confusion

This guy is exteremly unlucky.

I myself love executioners.

They have a low 5+ armor save, but don't all dark elfs have a bit of a low one??

They are only 11 points for a real killing machine.

I usually take units of 10 of 5x2 with a champion.

They give 6 ws5 S5 killing blow attacks.

I personally do it mostly because of the killing blow and strength 5, because they are just heavy-armor killers.

Zephyro

( I once slaughtered a thane with a group of 15 dwarf warriors in 1 turn with a group of 10 executioners and 10 corsairs)( the executioners killed the thane with killing blow, and killed 2 others too, and the corsairs killed 3 tongue.gif he then died horribly because of his low runaway ability.)

And they look good too!

I'm not insulting them I think they're good too but he rarly uses them he prefers more cold one knights and a LOT more Bolt throwers for the points he could spend on them. Probably one reason why he doesn't like them- he rarely uses them and when he does they screw up for him.

Well I don't play DE but a regular opponent of mine used to. He loved Executioners, mainly because of killing blow, but the models are swe.. ee.. ee.. eet. I can't believe your opponent prefers to take CO knights. They are far too expensive. Bolt throwers I can understand (they kick ass!! Best war machine in the game easily), but COK are terrible for their points.

The models look cool? have you seen the black guard? WoWy they look awesome!
cold one knights also look better, I think, but the cold ones should have something like plating. Now it looks so useless wearing that kind of armour while sitting on a naked horse.

btw, are executioners rare?

No , they are Special.

I also like RBt's tongue.gif

A good combo is a group of 10 executioners with a champion, and a group of 20 corsairs with full command.

Just hold them with the corsairs, and flank them with the executioners.

If they are light/medium, corsairs will do the trick, if they are heavy, executioners rule with 6 WS5 S5 killing blow attacks.

They have scaly skin, thats like having barding on a steed, COK have just as good an armour as dragon princes.

Executioners are amazing but he doesn't like them yet he alway talks of their killing blow ability and how he's gonna finish off my characters with it but he doesn't take them. I think it's amazin with a whole killing blow unit rampaging about but his executioners are slaughtered early on (happened in a MASSIVE skirmish) or left alone only to be slaughtered by chariots though that was probably because he couldn't charge (he failed fear test) them but it was a close call. I mean if a unit gets to a character on his own then its only a matter of time before the killing blow comes into action and his head is rolling on the floor.

I meant the models of course. The models are just naked. DE would protect them with their armour.

i agree that COK are too expensive, and that executioners are reely gd, not to mention kewl models, but everyone here has got to remeber that they cause fear, and therefore are immune to fear, and so are useful against undead, and ogres for that matter

Execs are a special choice to answer a question posed earlier. Execs are great flankers and their high strength lets them go toe to toe with heavily armored troops. The downside is they strike last in subsequent rounds of combat, so if you don't kill enough guys on a charge, combat might get rough for the Execs. They are not good at taking on cavalry because they rarely get the charge, so fight based on initiative order. Execs are best at fighting man sized models since killing blow only works on man sized models. EXECS DO NOT CAUSE FEAR! Cold ones do, please don't get that confused. I have included Execs in my army since thair purchase due to their ability to tear through Longbeards with ease. Unless I had a themed army, I'll always have them.

That's why he likes them he is scared of various tools at my disposal fear being a big one so he likes the COK because their immune to this plus they are solid fighters and those cold ones are no joke either.
