well the equipment really depends of the size of the game. for lower point battles i would equip them with armor and spears just for added survivability since in a lower battle you wont have many other units with its impact.

but when you get to higher points battle every point you can keep will come in handy, just having them bare with nothing except command, assuming you have a king/prince with them of course.

side note: you want skeleton warriors to be in a big block at least 30+ preferably 40

I give them light armour and shields smile.gif Makes them a bit more survivable, and I view it as each model less you lose, that's one less you'll lose on combat res!

Ideally with a Bow. wink.gif

However if you are set on the fightin' mans Skeletons, I think Light Armour and Hand Weapons are best. Remembering how our combat resolution works, every dead Skeleton will take one of his mates with him. Every passed armour save, will therefore save *2* Skeletons. A 5+/6++ is decent for 5pts and will hold a target down for our 'proper' units to get into the meaty bits.

our combat resolution is not awesome but bearable
every point you lose combat by is another skeleton lost but you always got your priest giving you new skeletons

dont buy them any upgrades, keep them cheap, and keep the unit count hight. I run 30, with Std and champ - disposable unit, but with magic they can be game winning.

Personal choice is the key deciding factor. I usually play at 2.5k and after a few battles I found tht 50 with hw/shield works best. Not only is it an intimidating size unit but it's cheap. Recently I have thought of trying spears and running them horde, buff them with Cursed Blades and see wot they do. I haven tried this yet so I'll have to let u know

If you are facing lots of things with S5+ take them cheap with no light armor. Otherwise the light armor is exactly worth it's points and makes it easier to send support units in to the combat.

Also, never take spears (even though they look better).
