Hey Guys!

Going to start an army diary for the progression of my army.

I bought a fully painted army awhile back, I'm no fan of the colour scheme and it has mould lines coming out the yin yang, so they are up for some metho and simple green action. Right now that's where this army is at, everything has been unassembled and prepared for a striptease.

Painting wise I am planning to try my luck at dipping the entire army, sure everyone seems to be having a go at it so why not. Going to get my hands on a matt stain or failing that give them a coat of matt varnish once they are complete to get rid of the gloss effect.

Roughly I have these models at the moment.

1 Tomb King
3 Mounted Liche Priests
3 Liche Priests
36 Heavy horsemen
15 Light Horsemen
50 Skeleton warriors
30 Skeleton Archers
15 Chariots
3 Ushabti
1 Tomb Scorpion
20 Tomb Guard
2 Bone Giants
1 Screaming Skull Catapult

Not a bad little collection there, I'm planning on adding another 3 Ushabti, grabbing some carrion sometime and also investing in another Tomb Scorpion. If I manage to see anything else that grabs me on ebay then no doubt I will do my best to invest in it as well.

I haven't really put my money on an army list as yet, or worked out any solid fluff however this will all come in time.

Well, hopefully I will update on a regular basis which at this stage will be weekly.

Cheers,

Jim

Well I am slowly but surely progressing along, today I finished stripping all the metal models in my army which is a fair few however that means I have also begun to strip the plastic models which is going to be a time consuming affair as I have a few regiments to do! biggrin.gif

did you know that you can use brake fluid to strip paint off plastic models and it doesnt harm the plastic AT ALL.

a friend of mine from the local rogue trader left a metal mini, with the plastic base still attached, in brake fluid for a whole week. the base came out fine!!!!!!! AMAZING!!

Hmmm sounds interesting

Oh and Ouroboris, has he actually tried it with a plastic model not just the base, because it may still erase the small detail of a plastic model, if not i may yet strip some models.

Ok, so the plan is to do a test model tomorrow with the dipping technique so hopefully I will have a pic of an insanely awesome looking skeleton warrior tomorrow!

Well today I tested out some skeleton warriors with the infamous dipping technique and after much umming and arrring I have decided that it isn't for me.

I also stripped 10 horsemen today so things are coming along well.

Time for a serious update!

Well my Tomb Kings have been coming along slowly, nearly everything is stripped to the bone now ( ) and I am painting away at my first regiment of skeleton warriors.

I had been toying with different ways of painting skeletons and have come up with a way I am happy with.

The first one I tried looked far to Vampire Countish for me however I still liked it.

The second one the brown was to dark

Finallly this is the way I am going to paint them, black undercoat, militia brown (snakebite) basecoat, desert yellow drybrush (bubonic brown), unbleached cloth (bleached bone) and finally some skull white. These are all Derivan Minis paints aswell!

Also as you can see I am going to put the derivan bronze to the test and pretty much every weapon will be a bronze one and also keep in theme.

Next post should be in a couple of days with a regiment finished! biggrin.gif

If you have time may I propose another scheme which I´ve found very effective.
Black coat > brown > bleeched bone and then highlight with skull white.
Doesnt look all to dark, doesnt look all to bright, does look just right.

Of the three I think the first and 3d of them is the best candidates, both looks pretty good.

Well finally I have taken some piccies of the completed units, the block of warriors without shields which I find so painful to work on, aswell as a unit of 5 archers mounted.

Currently painting a liche priest.

It's looking great, especially the Ushabti wink.gif

But you metal (gold and silver at least) would benefit from some wash to add more dept to them. Other than that it's great cool.gif

Your TK's whip is unnatural and his and the horses poses are a bit static
The liche priests contrast from skin to gold is quite strange, but likely somehow as well....
Oh and you can assume that if I don't say something about it, it's kewl =)

Well guys, time for another much needed update. I've been very slack with it all however I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Carrion:

Just finished these guys yesterday, the red is very different but I really liked it and it gave a bit more colour to the army in general. Just waiting on another two of these guys to come in to fill out the unit.

Tomb Guard:

Tomb Scorpion:

I spotted a setup like this at a tournament last year and really like the idea of it.

Pyramid:

Ordered some of the scenery gear from a supplier and I'm really happy with the way they've come out. Just need to order some paint to finish off the pyramid.

Columns:

It really helps having some home ground to fight on, and ever since I've seen a few more victories!

Temple Entrance:

All I have left to paint to finish the army is low priority stuff I won't use much such as a second bone giant, second SSC, a few character models, and some small core choices.

Getting really sick of painting bone at the moment so I might have to break it up very soon.

Cheers.

Absolutely stunning. Im a crap painter but I must say they look lovely, especially the scorpion!

Dont you think you want to make the tomb guard look a little more elite rather than slightly more glorified skeleton warriors?

There is no use in replying on this page so please let it sink to the bottom again or somethin'. Actual last post with content was June 2005.

Wow man. I love the army, and especially the terrain! Wonderful! Have you played any games on it yet?

Played a few with the terrain and it always seems to make my army go much better!

At the moment I'm working on a mounted priest as well as the Tomb King model on foot so hopefully I'll have another update before the weekend ends.

Well once again I've left my Tomb to give the TK some love. I finished the knights about a fortnight ago and the sphinx last night which I'm pretty happy with the results.

I've magnetised the sphinx so I'll have to paint the other components shortly.
