Inspired by painting contests that have been on other sites, I feel it is time we start hosting them. Plus it is a great activity for the community as well, and can give us some extra fun while we await the release. It will also give more motivation to paint!
The first one will be for BEFORE the new book comes out! The next one will be shortly after the new book (I want to give enough time for people to purchase their stuff). The objective of this one is very simple. I am wanting to leave everyone with a lot of freedom to paint what they want for this one. Subject Matter 6 infantry models. Full command allowed, but not required. The unit champion can be any Tomb Kings character/model from current or older ranges, but must be on an infantry base as well. A unit of mummies is allowed as well, as rumors are saying they should return. Basing Infantry bases, should be have basing material. No display boards. Particulars Due Date: April 18th, 11:59 PM [GMT] Any painting done MUST be done from the announcement until the due date. No previous painting must have been done. However the figures may have already been assembled, primed, and even have basing material on them. This is to prevent just entering something you already painted. Please do not post "WIP" pics and such of your entry until the contest is complete and the winner selected. This is to encourage as much of a "blind" vote as we can. While people may be able to say "That looks similar to so and so's work", it still helps. How to Enter Please take a few photographs, at the very least I ask for two (one front, one back). Max of 4 please. This will enable users to get both a "full view" of your entry. Once you have taken your photos, submit to the user GoldenAnkhContest in a Private Message. This is an account I have set up that myself, and other staff, will have access to. It exists strictly for the purpose of the contest. If you Win I will be making a little signature banner, much like the one for CDO I have in my sig. It will have some nice art and "Golden Ankh 1 Winner: " followed by your username! You can display it proudly in your signature. I am very likely to set up a "private" forum for discussion of future contests, in which staff and previous winners will get to discuss. Bragging rights? ;-) Seriously though, it is for fun and to give extra motivation to people to paint. So in that sense you've already won a bit as well. Once the deadline has passed, I will go through the entries and organize them. I will go on to create a thread for people to vote on the entries, and winners will be announced after the specified voting time passes. Questions Feel free to post here, that way I can answer them. Finally I hope everyone has some fun out of this, I know I am looking forward to it. -------------------- |

Is it 6 infantry models minimum, or maximum? I just painted a big part on my army, thanks to the upcomming book, and have done some Skeletons I could enter here
Since it's core and ugly skeleton, I didn't put as much effort in them as say, a character (especially with batch painting), but I could participate anyway for the sake of it -------------------- |

6. Min and Max.
I want it to be about the quality, not quantity. ;-) I look forward to seeing the entries, yours included! -------------------- |

Grimdisco: No they can be any line of miniatures. As long as they can be used for Tomb Kings it is good. :-) It's about having fun and painting!

Aww... I just saw this now. Not sure how that happened as I'm on every day *shrugs*.
Maybe it would be more visible and get a much better response if this were placed in the painting and modelling section? I dare say a lot more people might be up for it if they knew about it. Anyhoo, I've got some mummies languishing in paint stripper (I use them for tomb guard) so I'll try and get them based and take a few 'before' shots later on so I can get cracking. -------------------- “Perpetual Optimism is a Force Multiplier.” - Colin Powell

Just wanted to say I think this sort of thing is a great idea and I hope to be able to enter the next one! Unfortunately I doubt I could even get 1 figure painted in the time remaining. >_< I'm way too slow.
Look forward to seeing the results though! =D Should be some good inspiration. =) -------------------- Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating.

Got mine sent off too... and not a monent too soon either. I would imagine everyone will be painting up their new sphinx/sanakes/tomb guard soon, so we should get a really good turnout for the next one (particularly if it's posted in the painting forums). -------------------- “Perpetual Optimism is a Force Multiplier.” - Colin Powell

On the rules part. Why isn't allowed to enter models painted before ?
We never had painting contests like this on khemri forum and many people allready have painted army's. Wouldn't it be better to open it up for any TK models done ? This would give a lot more contesters to vote from. Even more so if the painting contest consists of units that were allready in the old book. I won't be getting any of the new models soon because i wan't to play around with the current models i have with the new book instead of instantly moving to the new models without fully trying the new rules for the older models. And with this as the current rules stand iw on't be able to enter anything for these contests and i would like to. -------------------- |

Well, we actually had a fair few painting competition back in 2005 or something similar. Actually, back then it were a few categories such as infantry unit, individual character, best conversion and best 'monstrous' unit. Think that Hazm won a fair few categories and he ended up being the paint-mod rather shortly afterwards. Having said that, I do think that you've got a point and that you, in fact, are right. It would also serve as a way to getting more people interested in forum activities, which, needless to say, is always handy. -------------------- More or less back

I joined the forum and started my TK army in 2007, guess they didn't have painting comps in that day

Well, I took a leave of absence myself for some personal reasons, but I'm back now and hopefully we'll have a few new painting competitions set up, with various themes and what not. Maybe we'll see some being combined with other parts of the forum, I don't know...
Anyway, Swiss, the suspense is killing me! -------------------- More or less back

I think this was the thinking behind it. The contest was aimed at people who still have stuff to paint and to give them some extra motivation to get cracking on it before the new stuff hits the shelves. From that perspective I would say the current competition wasn't really geared towards people who already have fully painted armies. There is nothing to stop us having comps for pre-painted minis in future, but I suspect those comps might turn out to be a bit of a foregone conclusion in some respects because a lot of the stuff that would get entered is, inevitably, already posted in the painting and modelling forum. I would expect the next competition will be to paint up one (or more) of the new models since almost everyone has got their eye on something new, and again, I would imagine this will be more about encouraging people to paint their models rather than it being Khemris answer to the Golden Demons. I would quite like to see a few different comps going on as well though, as a best conversion or best monster etc (like Darlan mentioned) would certainly encourage me to get some of my odd jobs completed.

The posts go up tonight, I want to combine the images into a single image. School put a slight delay on me posting the voting thread.
I hope people had fun with it, I know I did! Yes, I intend the next contest to be based on new figures. I'm bouncing some ideas in my head on how to handle it, and will be discussing with the other staff soon. -------------------- |
