I just watched bleach episode 2 in English on crunchyroll.com and I have to say that staring at my oven for 24 minutes would have been more entertaining. I remember when I first watched naruto it was in dub and I liked it. However, now I prefer the sub because it just flows better I think. So now I ask you this, would you watch dub anime? I figured this would be appropriate because I just learned The Wallflower was licensed and the dub would probably butcher it.

ohohoho. I believe that this has been a topic of hot debate for anime fans for many a year now.

I prefer subs myself. Mainly because watching dubs doesn't really feel "authentic". Plus, sometimes, the voice actors... are not the best.

Although I tend to watch more subs than dubs I put both. When dubs are available I check them out and if they're good I'll continue watching it dubbed.

I voted for both. Cause just like almond joy candy bar, "sometimes you feel like a nut and sometimes you dont."

I would really prefer dubbed, but some dubbed animes have the worst voice actors so I would watch it subbed. Its really a preference per person. Some examples of my preferences:

Series I prefer dubbed:
Ah! My goddess TV
You're Under Arrest
Cowboy Bebop
Bleach

Series I prefer Subbed:
Naruto
One Piece
Love Hina

I prefer watching the subbed episodes. The dubbed ones are always, somehow, not as amusing and sometimes have edited out large parts, too. You get a sort of non-anime, in my opinion ;__;

Besides. Japanese is an interesting language. -nodnod-

I find that happens more with anime shown on TV (during daytime hours) rather than anime you buy on dvds. The ones on tv are edited to make sure the kiddies can watch it. em014.gif

I know. But that still doesn't make the dubs better. I think I just like the subbed more. And KissSub is doing an awesome job with the small, star-accompanied notes. -nodnod-

I voted for both... it really depends on the actors, if they're any good and the dialog doesn't sound lame, but I watch both.

i'm a big fan of subtitles, and not dubbing..

i don't know, i feel that something gets lost through the dubbing.

My theory is that the director, created his creation imagining that the characters were talking in Japanese. i feel that when anime gets dubbed, it loses something that the original director was trying to convey.

But there are exceptions. i enjoyed the Cowboy Bebop dubbing, but that's pretty much the only dub i ever liked.

It doesn't matter to me since I'd rather go from subbed to dubbed and vice versa rather than read the manga watch the sub or dub and be disappointed because the voice doesn't sound like the way I heard the character in my head.

Course it also depends on the anime. If you watch something called Ghost Stories in dub it is the funniest thing ever yet most people I know don't like the subbed version cuz they found it boring since they were like two completely different versions.

One I perfer subbed is Saiyuki the second season...loved the dubbed first season with all my heart and soul but the second season murdered me softly with their voices. em013.gif

The inbetween on is Naruto since they all sound the same to me.

Most dubbing is done poorly, so I most certainly prefer subbing. This is due to lost emotion, and it makes more since to me to hear Japanese voices in a Japanese show, just as it makes more sense to me to hear English voices for English shows and etc.

They also sometimes change the story a bit when they dub things. For example, if they were to license Lovely Complex and dub it, they would probably alter the story about Seiko, especially if they were to release it on Cartoon Network.

But a lot of times, dubbing loses a lot of the original meaning because it leaves out various terms and other things that might not fit into the English language very well, that being things that in fansubs get the neat little cultural notes and stuff like that. But there is just too much that is lost in translation when it comes to dubs, IMO.

I find that subbing is better in general just because Japanese voice actors/actresses are just better at their jobs.

One Piece was a terrible dissapointment for me when the dubbed it, especially because one of the best things about the original version is Luffy's voice actress who does a fantastic job.

More worryingly I think there's a serious problem here with getting new peeps into Anime - since the dubs generally sound so goofy that it becomes a sort of joke for non-Anime-fans it can put a lot of people off.

I prefer watching the subbed animes and any other movie at that... dubbing the anime again would only lessen the personality of the anime... well that's my opinion though.. I don't really like english dubbed animes since most of what I watched in dubbed version turn out to have bad voices compared to the original ones, one anime I could point out to would be Detective Conan... don't like the english voice actors there... em016.gif

I prefer original Japanese with no subtitles, but then again I prefer sub over dub. Since I'm currently still learning Japanese, raws are my best teacher. Subtitles makes me lazy and Dub would completely destroy the point of learning Japanese.

For those who prefer dub... try watching dubbed hentai... ugh... *pukes* Even the ones that use Professional AV Actors/Actresses plain suck... I love Japanese milf voices... em015.gif

Sadly, most of the anime i've watched dubbed have been cringe-worthy emo_%281%29.gif

Probably the only great dub i've seen has been cowboy bebop and hellsing. they managed to really out-do the original japanese voice actors....
