QUOTE (Leasara @ Jun 4 2007, 05:42 AM)
Ok, I haven't forgotten about this but life went all explodey on me again.

Just so you don't think I'm a complete screw up, my brother was in a motorcycle accident on the 26th, on the 28th my grandfather was given "about another three days" untill he dies (he's 96, we've seen it comming since my grandmother passed). He's still with us, but could go any time. My father had to have an emergency operation on his posterior for some infected boil thing, and my mother's Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclorosis seemd to be on the edge of a relapse.

So, not my life specifically, but I've been taking care of the sick and dieing for the past week. Once things settle down again, I'd love to take a swing at subbing something for you all, but I don't know how long it'll be until I have time to learn it.

One of the most important things i've had to keep reminding myself:

Life > Anime

It's easy to forget. em003.gif

I will PM you my MSN info, you can add me and I can help you get started learning, but I'll pre-warn you, im a busy person :D im just near a computer often.

I learnt through experimentation. Go download a raw and find a free script for it (or make up your own translations) and try out the various tools.

VobSub,
After Effects,
Etc...

I don't have references or anything, but I am very good with subbing and video in general(I used to do tech support for video editing software for Sony).

I can do stream subbing like ASS or SSA(AegiSub/VOBSub) or actual hard encoding with editing software(this is what I use for signs and pictures with text that need to be subbed).

I'd like to do something like typesetting or timing, and I know a conversational level of Japanese so that may help. I'd be happy to do any sort of test runs you would like.

I think I'll take a look at the programs you mentioned earlier and study them this weekend. I am not experienced at this but I have an IS degree and learn any computer program very quickly. While still in collage, I had a job where I taught people how to use computer systems that I had learned the week before, self taught.

More recently I have taken classes in ProE, Autocad and Wicam and in all cases, I was the top student in the class (including people with Engineering degrees).

It would help if you could give an example of the script that the typesetter or karaoker receives from the translator.

Ok, I've got eh program downloaded and installed. It took a bit but I have the basics figured out, going to spend this weekend playing with the advanced typesetting and start learning the scripting language and running the autowhatit!

edited to add: Forget the scripting, I'm coding the effects myself. It's faster and less confusing. Now I need a longer video to play with this weekend.
