I'm having problems with the audio for saiunkoku monogatari. I dont know if its all the releases but i've tried episodes 4-7 and all of them have the some problem.
When shifting the tracker to either fast forward or play back, the audio seems to go off for afew secs b4 coming back on again. This happens whenever i try to shift the tracker bar. I dont know if the release is suppose to be like this but i'm encountering tis prob. anyone mind telling me the reason behind this.
help is veri much appreciated.

Most likely the encode has been encoded with audio in VBR (Variable Bitrate).
This means that the audio could walk out of sync, when the next "KEYFRAME" comes.
Then it will continue where it should have been.

Isit some kind of defect or encode error or isit considered to be normal and acceptable cause i cant realli stand the audio coming on and off when shifting the tracker.

Hmmm.... I'm the encoder of the series and I really don't understand where the problem is... First, tell me what codecs have you installed for playback, second... the media player you're using.

I suggest using ffdshow for playback, post-processing turned on for a clearer picture and deinterlacing (linear blending). You'll notice the picture becomes clearer though it's pretty good even without them. As for the media player... Better use Media Player Classic.

With MPC I've noticed that the audio sometimes goes off when you go forward or backward, but it's an MPC bug not an encode bug. Just press Pause and then Play and audio will turn on.

Anyway audio has been encoded in 128kpbs@48KHz in CBR...
Video in latest XviD...
You mean it's out of sync when you shift it forward????
Haven't noticed it. I'll check later and then inform you.

I'm using CCCP codec pack, as for player i've used WindowsMediaPlayer but tried on MediaPlayerClassic and a number of other players, the sound is still givin me problems. So i dont suppose its the players fault.

When shiftin the seeker of the player during playback, the audio cant follow and gets turned off for afew seconds and comes back after awhile.

Not really out of sync when playing but rather the audio doesnt play directly after the seeker bar is shifted (video plays perfectly fine) hence playing the anime void of audio for afew seconds b4 the audio catches back on.

The timing is perfectly fine.
Otherwise if you just play through it without meddling with the seeker bar, the anime plays perfectly fine.

It's normal.
VBR is doing this and I dont know if orochimaru used that for the audio.
It has nothing to do with postprocessing or something, this is a audio-codec thing.
Hint, why do you think timers want a CBR encode audio ?
Because they need to shift a lot in the audio and will otherwise get out of sync with VBR.
Perhaps handy for the future ^^

Orochi, you called me?

ShannonKasull, try episode 12. Orochi fixed something.

There are some issues, but I am glad that it wasn't hold back for the fixes. I would rather see the episode earlier than getting a perfect version one month later.

Just like ffdshow said... use him for decoding audio and video.

ffdshow, I didn't fix anything. It's the raws that are getting better.

By the way an HQ DVDRIP will be coming soon for the quality maniacs and it might have a suprise inside ;)

P2---> check GSPOT and see if audio is VBR or CBR ( I only use CBR)

erm, i am already using ffdshow for playback. So i dont suppose its the player, codec or anythin of that sort cause i'm not realli gettin this problem wif any other animes or any of Kiss subs other releases so i'm guessin it should be Saiunkoku's release which is the problem.
The raws or other groups version of Saiunkoku's releases aint showin such problems so i'm kinda puzzled.

I personally have had no playback problems, and this is also the first I've heard of this kind of problem with the Saiun releases. I spoke to ming and a few others about it too, and they've had no problems either. Seeing as none of the people I have asked have this problem, I'm inclined to think it's an issue on your end, whether it's codec or player related. I use klite codec pack, and have no problems, so that would be my suggestion. However going to the trouble of installing it might be a pain if it's only this one series you are having trouble with. It might be an idea to try and see if you encounter the same problem if you play the video on a different pc... again, just a suggestion. However at this point, since I have not encountered any problem myself, nor had a massive influx of complaints, I do not intend to organise reencode. As oro said, DVD versions will be coming out soon, so maybe they will give you better playback results.

Oro is very patient and understanding, and will try to give advice the best he can, based on the information you give them. I hope that he can continue to help you and hopefully sort this out.

ffd, as he has mentioned, is not, so I'll leave him out of this.

Edited: for ffd's benefit ;-)

em011.gif I was planning to get away from this. I am not really patient nor understanding, but I would pretend to be a nice guy this time em033.gif

Let me guess... ShannonKasull, you play it directly in CDROM, right?

Sorry for can't be helpful. em013.gif

I know that Seiun ep1-11's seeking is slower, but on hard disk it would just play without delay. Even with slow harddisk like my mac mini, I cannot reproduce the situation that you mentioned.

If I were you, I would wait for Orochi's HQ release.

P.S.: thx, wolfmier
