The Forest of Hands and Teeth

A rec for everyone, since you guys are always giving me great ones.

It's not out until 2009, but THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH by Carrie Ryan is absolutely fabulous- and unlike anything else I've ever read. It's set in a small village run by a religious sect after the Zombie Apocalypse. And yet, it's a dark literary romance- heartbreaking and heart-pounding and really lusciously written, all at once.

I got to read the first chapter of this novel, and I was instantly hooked. It's going to be a breakout, FANTASTIC story!!

Bumping this up, because the book came out last week! I've hand sold it to about four different people, and I don't even work in a bookstore. I just hang out in them a lot.

This one is at the top of my pile. I have to finsh Leaving Paradise, read Stargazer, then Forest. I can't wait to get to it!

Incredible. Simply incredible. This is a heartwrenching story of survival, love and hope. And zombies. What more could you ask for in a book?

Mary lives in a village deep within the Forest of Hands and Teeth. This small village is, as far as everyone knows, mankinds last stronghold. Fences surround the streets and houses keeping back hordes of "Unconsecrated", who desperately want to get inside and infect the remaining humans. Their hunger and tenacity is terrifying, but it is a part of life that the people of the village must live with. All her life, Mary has heard tales from the Outside, from before the fences went up. Her mother told her of something called an Ocean and of buildings that touched the sky. She wants to believe that these things do truly exist, but it becomes more difficult every day as she feels the encroachment of the fences and her duties as a member of society. Mary's dreams become even more elusive after the loss of a life and a love. Just as she is about to give in to her fate and lose hope, a disaster strikes her village and she is forced to make a desperate escape into the unkown darkness of The Forest of Hands and Teeth. She and a small group of survivors are now in a race for survival that does not promise to lead all of them to safety.
