How To Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier

I have been waiting for this one! I'm a huge fan of her Magic or Madness Trilogy. I've been looking forward to more books from her and I was THRILLED to see this one arrive in the stores. It sounds awesome:

I really want to read something by her... all of her books look great, I just might pick this one up with my next paycheck

I'm super excited for this one! I loved the Magic or Madness trilogy, and I'd be picking this one up based on the summary alone even if Justine hadn't written it- so there's a lot of awesome-factor involved with this book for me.

Also, I love the idea of having a parking fairy. My family has said for a very long time (and I even included this in the author bio for my first book) that I have a supernatural ability to get really good parking spaces. In high school, my parking mojo was infamous.

I read this one today and really loved- though, like Steffi, I'm completely freaked out by New Avalon and New Avalon Sport High and seriously hope the author returns to this world and shows us what exists outside of NA and Charlie's bubble.

Anyway, I loved all of the different fairies in the book, and the humor. I also really, really loved what Larbalestier did with Fiorenze's character (and her fairy)- it completely subverted the whole "snotty pretty girl who all the boys love and who is evil" cliche in teen novels in a way that felt real (and heart-wrenching/disturbing) to me. Overall- great world-building and a fun voice!

I've always been convinced that there were people out there with good hair fairies, and I know there are parking fairies (Jen) but who knew there were grip fairies. I guess if you are a wide receiver that would be a good thing. I think if I had to guess what fairy I have it would be an attracts strange animals fairy. Seriously, my new best friend is a mole. Don't ask. I may also have a Cat fairy.

NA is definitely a freaky place. The idea of the "Ours" was both disturbing and familiar. As was the bubble that the residents of NA live in.

I was surprised by Fio's attitude towards her fairy. I mean, who wouldn't want one like hers? I guess Fio. I can see why it be a not so good thing now. Especially for her.

It took a little while to get used to the Australian voice, which surprised me because I didn't have trouble with Magic or Madness. Maybe it's just been a while since I've read anything with that kind of terminology. Once I got reading, I got more used to it.

My advice to anyone reading this or about to would be to read the glossary first and save yourself the time of wondering things like "what are spoffs?" and "pulchy? Is that doos?"

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out "spoffs." At first, since this is fantasy, I was picturing spoffs as being little antenna-like things of bright colored fur- and I was like, "okay, the dress is pushing her spoffs in different directions, and apparently, that's a no-no." And then, I slowly came to the realization that I could not just assume that the first thing that popped into my head when I saw a word was its actual meaning, and then I went back, re-read that page, and figured things out...

Note to self:

Do not take a sip of beverage while reading things. It will only end in a runny nose and cola tears.

See I should of read this before the book so I would of known about the Glossary but thank you Sorahikaru13 for letting me know that their was one. It made it much easier. Sorta wished she put it in the front instead of the back then you would know what things meant.

Otherwise I enjoyed reading this book. I really didn't want to put it down almost got my daughter late to school 2 days in a row since I was reading

I wasn't sure why she wanted to give up her parking fairy until you realize what a hassle it is with everyone wanting you to ride with them to park.

Flo's fairy I wouldn't of wanted either, who would want every boy after them I could see where that problem was right from the beginning.

Enjoyed how in the top of each chapter she had that total going. At first it was like what is going on but by the middle I was looking forward to seeing how she would change the wording. Laughed at the Days Walking when it changed. Poor Charlie. Even though Dander was the cause of problems and was suppose to be annoying he made me laugh.

I know I would not of wanted to go to that school to many ways to get a demerits. But if you where sports person that did sound like it would be a cool school to go to.

Trying to think which fairy I would want the bladder one sounds the best never having to go when you are at the movies, or stuck in traffic would be good. But I would like to have the shopping fairy only for books. Then I would find a bargain all of the time and then I could buy more

I can imagine how annoying it would be to have an "all the boys like you fairy". Sounds cool at first, but it would get really old. Then you would have to worry that anyone who likes you only likes you because of the fairy and not for yourself.

I loved the tally at the beginning of each chapter. Very funny.

I guess a "book bargain fairy" would be a good one to have. I think a " finds $100 dollar bills on the ground fairy" would be better

The book was very cute I really liked it. It made me smile.

Hmm a found a 100.00 fairy would be good if I found it everyday and didn't have to pay taxes on it then I could afford the books and other things.

But if the book fairy could have all the books for less then 2 dollars I could buy a lot

Yes the all boys like you would be bad, since you really wouldn't know if they really liked you or not.

I'm ok with vocab and understood what the words meant.
