From here on out, this is the official update thread for Project ANEW.


Alright guys, I've gotten eight applications thus far, all in various stages of approval. To let you know how things are shaping up, without spoiling things by saying who's doing what specifically, here's the Jobs that I currently have:

2 for LOCAL/ POLICE/ SWAT Gunner
2 for GLOBAL/ MERCENARY/ Sniper
1 for LOCAL/ Vigilante
1 for LOCAL/ CRIMINAL/ Heist Man
1 for GLOBAL/ SYNDICATE/ Eliminator
1 for LOCAL/ POLICE/ Beat Cop

Out of the 20 or so interested parties, I'd say that's about the limit we'd want for both SWAT Gunners and Merc Snipers. If you were interested in either of those positions, I'd suggest re-thinking things or having a very interesting application in mind.

Well, I'm still going through the applications, but so far I only have 8. That's less than half of what I was expecting, so that's lame.

So, since the majority of the applicants are choosing Local focus, I might have to hold off on the Global Focus, unless I get some late applications.

Well guys, after a slightly disappointing turnout for applications, along with a tough week at work and at home, things are moving a bit slower than I want them to, BUT, they are moving.

I'm hoping to get the current accepted ANEW candidates started on the casual aspects of ANEW, like training, equipment and weapons purchases, and maybe even some loose creative writing for their characters, if they're up for it. However, since I'm been short on free time this week, the guides needed to start that stuff is a bit delayed. I am hoping to complete them within the next few days, though, so I just have to ask you guys to sit tight a bit longer.

In the mean time, I have decided to suspend any deadlines for character applications due to the fairly low turnout. From here on out, there will not be any sort of cutoff point for submitting character apps, so anybody who didn't bother to submit one if they missed Sunday's deadline can now do so without worry.

I suppose that means this dry run will now take a more relaxed feel with the slower developments, so maybe that will be more appealing to anybody who has been on the fence about participating due to a hectic pace.

Updated the Weapons List with details on the Machine Pistols and SMGs, as well as fixing some minor stuff in the Handguns and Revolvers lists.

Shotguns are being worked on. I may also add another 10 Handguns to the list before its all finalized (boosting up the total weapon count to 140).

Progress, though slow, is being made.

Updated the list of Shotguns in the Weapons List. Hoping to complete, or come close to completing, the Weapons List this weekend, as well as creating the Equipment List, and finishing working out the details of the Roulette System. I may also decide whether or not to include the Weapon Customize feature for the dry-run, seeing as the dry-run's activity may be extended longer than originally planned in order to get the most out of it.

One thing I wanted to ask, are there going to be special munition? I mean bullets, can I load different type of rounds in my revolver for example? cause I know there are allot of different types of bullets and such.

Kinda.

If you look at the shotgun section of the Weapon List, I make mention of the differnet kinds of shot shells you'll be able to use. However, that really has no effect on the performance of the shotgun itself. Its more of a writing tool.

On other guns, like say a .44 Magnum revolver, you could theoretically write in that you're using .44 Special rounds instead of the stronger Magnum rounds, but I wouldn't change the Stats of the gun. Same could be said of .357 Magnum and .38 Special, or 9mm Parabellum and 9mm NATO. Or even speciality pistol cartridges like the "shot shell" bullets that are used against home invaders.

Adding speciality rounds as different Stats would be like adding a whole new gun, and why use that effort in basically re-writing the same gun when I could be adding a whole new weapon to the list?

So, I'd say its really up to the author's discretion whether to make mention of any specialty ammo. It isn't very accurate of me to not change the Stats of a gun when special ammo is used, but it will make things less complicated for all involved, and that's a plus.

Holy shit, that took longer than I wanted it to.

After many hours of work, the Assault Rifles list has been updated, with 5 more than there were before, giving us a total of 20 to choose from.

In doing all that research, it became obvious that alot of today's assault rifles are extremely similar, so many of the Stats end up looking almost identical. I suppose it'll come down to wanting a weapon from a specific country, or if you want to have something cool and unique, plopping down big money for something like the Stoner 63.

I try to mix in a few historic or unique weapons when I can, like the Tommy Gun or Colt SAA. These guns won't necessarily be any better than the modern weapons, but I consider them to be writer's tools, since they can help develop your character. They also give you something to strive for with all of that money, since you've got to spend it somewhere.

Love to, but if I want to get it done and move on to other guides, lists and mechanics that need to be done to get this project operational, I've got to concentrate on getting what's really needed down on paper.

In the future, I plan on spriting all of the weapons featured (which will fall in line with the custom weapon feature I want to eventually impliment). While I could go and scour the internet for pictures of these weapons, we're talkin' many, many hours.

Besides, the idea here is that authors will need to do some of their own research. Afterall, weapons are mere tools, and tools can help define the person using them.

Maybe eventually then. But it'd definately help usability. Most people probably don't know anything about these weapons and are leaning on your guides 100%.

That's absolutely true.

However, keep in mind that ALL of the weapons seen here so far have been created using Wikipedia as my main resource (with my own collection of books as a double reference for fact checking). Therefore, every one of these weapons has some sort of entry on Wiki, and most of those have a picture.

I could link each wepaon to its Wiki page, but that's not a huge priority right now.
