Truly impressive, I have to admit I didn't expect certain questions I'd had to be answered, but they were. The plot-line was very original, even if based on the game's plot, there were still several twists and turns that nobody could possibly expect.
The Cinematography was out-standing, I thought I was in a movie theater based on the quality.
The lighting was very carefully planned, I loved how Eddie used a blue light which both acts a symbol for Megaman AND creates a melancholy atmosphere. The bright yellow that radiates through-out the Light residence was clever, when we think of light we often associate it with the color yellow and I liked how that played through. Not only did it just scream the word 'light' but it also made the house feel warm and in a way enchanting.
The actual Quality of the camera was unexpected, often times fan-films are missing a certain 'edge' that makes the scene more than reality, but in this film it was PHENOMENAL. One could clearly see the pores on Naito's face, and the detail of the shadows made (which often times is monotone as opposed to showing all the true shades) the situation in the film come across nicely.

As for the portrayal of the characters, it was perfect, except for maybe Fireman and Iceman but due to their personalities being based on Powered Up it is understandable. For the purposes of my critique I have chosen to split the Robot Masters and the main characters up.

Gutsman came across as a very stern hard-working type of character. I am glad he was not made out to be stupid, although I do admit I wish that Mr. Lebron has thrown in a 'Gutsman's ass' joke (sound and all) at some point. Not only did Gutsman look great, but his voice was perfect I actually like the robotic effect in it that Powered Up had failed to add.
Bombman was fairly annoying, but one does have to admit you would probably be a little bit insane if you had the power to 'magically' produce bombs. The effect for the bombs I felt could have been done better but I do like that its 'poofing' was shown to be an actual application ala Gutsman's defeat. I personally would have liked his voice to be a little higher and more mischievous, his voice didn't sound great to me, not that it was bad.
Elecman was SPOT ON, I couldn't have picked a better actor or personality for him. His arrogance was refreshing it was more similar to the Megamix adaptation of Elecman and trust me that is a VAST improvement over the Powered Up personality. In Powered Up Elecman almost seemed gay, not that that is a bad thing in itself, but I felt it was a crappy character personality that bugs the HELL out of me, it's more like someone pretending to be a femine gay guy and failing miserably. Returning to subject of the movie version of Elecman, his costume was very nice, I liked it, it was conservative but still had that shocking flavour. I liked how rather than having a mask Elecman had goggles (which would actually be able to SERVE A PURPOSE in real life rather than to just look 'fabulous'). His arrogance seemed deserved and realistic; he can shoot LIGHTNING BOLTS for christ's sake.
Iceman, as I stated above I didn't like Iceman's personality in and of itself, but I like Iceman a good bit so there is bias on my behalf here. Since this is a critque based on the movie itself I'll explain why the character portrayal is good regardless of my bias. In Powered Up Iceman did have a bit of a split personality sadly this did not come over very well because he did not change his tone of voice, rather it sounded like he was merely arguing with himself. In this movie the actor did a fantastic job in changing the tone of his voice and the static effect just made the scene even better. This adaptation of Powered Up Iceman's personality was a wonderful treat. As for his costume, well... I think it should have had a hood, regardless of if Iceman wore it up, I still think it should have had a hood. In addition to this I feel it was the most plain of all the Robot Masters, it was a bit disappointing to me.
Moving right along to Fireman. Honestly I didn't like him. His random shouts of justice seemed awkward because he didn't explain why he thought he was doing the right thing. Because of this I feel the actor suffered because he had less to build off of. While I did like his effects and his fighting scene, I couldn't get into the character... I do however like his costume a lot. The helmet style was very logical and unexpected; it resembles the game's counter-part while not looking like a smoke-stack. His costume is perhaps my second favorite (The first being Blues before his dawns the helmet which I'll comment on later).
Cutman was right on target, his fight scene was probably the hardest so it looks the most awkward. He didn't speak terribly much, but his personality was identical to the Powered Up version, which in turn is identical to the Megamix version, clearly Cutman has a clean cut personality. I will admit that I think the scissors on his head could have been bigger, he was a bit too shiny for my tastes but overall he had a nice model. I think he should have been the first fight just based on the infamous Megaman pun (Rock beats Scissors which Cutman has).

Continuing with characters it is time to comment on the main character Rock.
Rock was simply amazing, there is no way that Hollywood could have done better. His questioning of his reality was wonderful, it made him so much more deeper. I also loved that he would show weakness, firmness and passion. Even though he has been pitted against his brothers, even though he doesn't want to fight them he still does. He tries to protect the people he loves, as well as the strangers that aren't even the same race as him. I feel that while he wanted to be human at first, I think he came to understand that he was perfect as he was and his compassion is among the greatest aspects of his character. There is however a small sad undertone to Megaman due to Protoman, the fact that when you boil everything down he does NOT have free will. The acting on this character was astounding. I almost feel as though Naito thought he was Megaman, he was so real and charming. The actor caught all the essence of Megaman perfectly, I could not have picked a candidate for different actor in a million years.
Roll was so goofy, light-hearted and loving. While I must admit her wig was not particularly wonderful... I did like that it was poked fun of in the movie. Roll has never been given immense amount of personality in the classic series, but I think Mr. Lebron was very successful in gathering bits and piece of her and make a perfect fusion of her personality. The role Roll played toward the end of the movie was wonderful, it allowed Wily to reveal so much more about himself and make Roll seem so 'human'(Even though she is played of course by a human). I find that her kidnapping is actually great set up for her fighting in the next movie if another one is made. Her actress did a great job conveying emotion, something ESSENTIAL to Roll. Her general movement and expressions were lovely and just so Roll-like.
Now as for Dr. Thomas Light, I loved the rendition of him. In most portrayals of Dr. Light he is a weak person and doesn’t do much… But he was so much more active in this film. He expressed his sense of justice which most people fail to realize is not actually expressed in the games, for all we know he could be having Megaman do all of this for his own gain (Not that I actually believe this). This made him into such a concrete character, I absolutely love it. The addition of his wife was PERFECT; I would never have expected what Mr. Lebron did. Most people comment on how it is creepy that an old-ish man is creating a female Asian android, but her (and Rock) being based on what his own daughter would have really been like was simply ingenious. I feel that made things much less creepy and much more loving and in some ways sad. It explains why he cares so much for Rock and Roll, he is not just their father by default, they are like the spiritual successors to what would have been his own two children. The actor NAILED him; I would hire him in any movie I would ever produce.
Moving along to Dr. Wily, oh my word, that just left me awestruck. Mr. Lebron made him out to be truly insane. He showed him having psychological problems from the beginning; what with his program to ego stroke him and his lust for fame. When he kidnaps Roll you get to see that he is in a lot of pain emotionally, something that is never shown in the game which I think is a real shame. The accent was a nice homage to the Ruby-Speares cartoon, and it almost makes it possible to associate him with Hitler but I may just be over analyzing on that point. In the games Wily wants to take over the world, but there is no real drive behind it, there isn’t a suggested back-story, he just wants to do it. It can be interpreted that he was viciously bullied for much of his life, more than likely he was also underappreciated possible because of his mind (While as arrogant as he is he is not wrong about being incredibly smart). He wanted to be seen, he wanted to be respected maybe all in an attempt to heal the pain in his heart, but when Light decides to make Rock on his own I think he felt like he was truly abandoned by life itself and he snapped. In an attempt to seize the shell of his life he lashes out and tries to destroy the very society that abandoned him. I felt sorry for Wily, while that certainly DOES NOT excuse his actions, there is something to be said at how impressive an acting job that is. Insane but hurt is among the hardest of personalities to portray and man did his actor portray it well. Dr Wily’s actor is my favorite of all the Megaman movie’s actors, he did the best job in my opinion.

Now judging this as I would any other movie I will still point out its' weakness, however it must be taken into account the limited budget and resources available. The scenes with CG were quite awkward, particularly the Wily Castle scene, I personally felt that the scene where Megaman fights Wily could have been filmed at an actual location with some added CG to make it appear as though it was in the sky. The reason it irked me was namely the proportions. Iceman's freezing scenes were a VERY blatant effect; it didn't look terribly real... Megaman should have color-changed momentarily when switching weapons, which Lebron had been considering but sadly did not do.

Amazing. Why hadn't I heard (or read) of this before? Man, it was totally worth watching (even at this insane hour, when I still have work tomorrow). As you commented, the film looks surprisingly good for a fan film. Makes me wonder just how much money they spent on the thing!

However, it was the CG bits that really made a bad impression in comparison to the rest of the movie. But hey, it was to be expected.
For instance, the three CG robot masters look completely out of place. And I actually think that real actors and some good props would have made a very substantial difference. I mean, when you see them causing havoc around the city, it's weird to see civilians not freak out when they see a robot with razor blades crossing the street.
So it makes me wonder, did the producer/director chose not to cast actors for those roles on purpose or was it a budget issue? I mean, as subpar as the CG looks, I don't think that it was cheaper than hiring three more actors and doing some props (read: bombs and blades).

Now, about the acting, I can't fully agree with ngauroth here. But only because my main disagreement is with Rock. The actor did a good job, in my opinion. But in some scenes, he really seems to just be repeating a dialogue, with not much emotion put into it. I think I'll have to watch it again some time to pinpoint the actual scenes I'm referring to.

Otherwise, every other role was played superbly. I disagree with some comments floating around ScrewAttack.com, especially those regarding Roll or Dr. Light. Roll was perfect, in my opinion. From her looks, to the voice and the dialogue.

As for the plot, I enjoyed the emotional themes very much. Rock's identity crisis, Light's justification, Roll's simple mindset and Wily's resentment. All of them are aspects that are always implied in the games, because the characters' personalities have them by default and no one ever questions anything (except maybe Rock, who has showed remorse in killing his brothers). So I appreciate that someone has the balls to explore all these aspects in a fan project. Kinda reminds of BoW... somewhat... somehow.

So yeah, plot is good, acting is good, photography is freaking awesome. But CG, not so much.

Pretty decent movie. Helped relive some stress and bordem on Friday. The music was pretty good in my opinion. I did like the CGI Gutsman. Am I the only one who thought his voice reminded me of Bulkhead from Transformers animated?

The CGI did remind me of what you'd see in a SyFy Channel; but hey, beggers can't be choosers. My minor nitpick was Rock's personailty.

Intresting costume choices for Iceman, Fireman and Elecman. Elecman had a pair of Frickin' Cool Goggles.

For an Independant film, I liked it.

Hey, I just remembered another thing I didn't like... XD

Light's lab (not Light's house) could have really used some more detail. I mean, it looked more like a very messy office. Very few machines. And it kinda made no sense to have the 6 robot masters laying about in a random room which was even more messy than the others. Specially if he was presenting them to a reporter, he should probably have tried to make the lab more presentable? Meh, I'm nitpicking.

Also, I just figured out what reminded me of BoW, besides the more emotionally engaging plot: the sniper joes bit. The fact that Light had considered working on military weapons in the past and dumped the project, only to have someone else steal the idea and use it for evil. But feel free to corret me... was this already explored in any of the canon sources? Anyway, it was a shame not to see the actual sniper joes, all we got was a news report about them.

OH, and Cutman's appearance was far creepies than what we're used to. That too reminded me of BoW. XD

It was a pretty good movie, for what it was. The CGI seemed ti stick out like a sore thumb, but it IS just a fan film and for what it is the CGI is pretty good.

But there are plot holes and gripes.

1) Sniper Joes. We never see them. Any of them. We don't see the destruction they cause and we don't see them being deactivated.

2) As funny as it is seeing some of the 8-bit graphics and original art in the movie, it's also out of place. Can we really believe that the RM1 anime art is supposed to be concept art of an actual Joe? Do we really think Dr. Light would take the trouble to make 8-bit sprites of the RMs just to keep track of them?

3) So, Protoman has free will thanks to his unstable core, but Megaman doesn't even when he insists on fighting for justice despite Light saying no? This is something that bugs me int he real story as well and I kinda wish they never brought it up in the movie. And why would Light NOT give MM and Roll free will? Kinda odd to me.

4) CGI consistancy problems. Fireman's hair ignites when he's activated, but at no other point. When Bomb tosses bombs at MM there's no scuff marks after the explosion. But I'm gonna let the CGI off the hook for any other problems seeing as this is a budget film.

5) Roll's hair looks fake. Well, at least they can admit it. Does Dr. Light look REALLY sunburned to anyone else? Wily does too, but it kinda works for him. IMHO/

6) The end battle is odd. Megaman can fly now? I didn't like it in Dreamwave and I don't eally like it here. It'd have been nicer if they gave him Item-2. I mean they're alreaady cribbing from 2 and 3, so they may as well.

7) So Light made a gigantic floating island base and it's located right in the middle of the city? He doesn't seem too surprised by the gigantic skull Wily added to it.

8) Which brings me to ... the acting on some. At times everyone seems rather wooden. Even Light doesn't seem to display a real variety of emotion. It's all one rather subdued tone. Wily has the benefit of being able to overact. Still, again for what it is, it's done well.

9) Like the Official Guide to Megaman, Megaman is actually the last robot Light makes and not the first. This bugs me a little bit since he's no longer DLN001. But only a little bit. If it was official it might bug me more.

One thing that struck me was the lack of variety in fighting scenes. They all ... kinda happen during the day. None during sundown or at night.

Anyhow, for all that it is I enjoyed it. I thought the Robot Masters were done rather well, all in all. All of them had distinct personalities (although iceman's comes out very suddenly and he seems to be the only one truly damaged thanks to the reprogramming). All of the RMs seem to be based on Powered Up ... which is a logical choice. It'd have been nice to see some mention of Oil and Time, but they'll never really be part of the Sinister Six, will they?

It'd be nice if Capcom sees this and decides to do their own version. But, for now, this is a pretty decent MM movie.

There is one thing that amused me.

The scene where all the robotmasters stormed the town? I like how the background people didn't react or pay attention. I thought that was kind of funny.

I do like the scene where Rock was playing Contra. Too bad he didn't play any other Capcom Platformer like Street Fighter 2010, Bionic Commando or Megaman itself.

I think it'd be a little too much if they had Megaman play Megaman. Then it's a matter of "hey, this game is exactly like my life."

I liked that scene too. Him playing on the oldschool NES was a bit much, so I'm kinda glad they didn't push it further than that.

As it turns out...I hated this movie.

Maybe its the inner riffer in me. At least once a week I make it a point to seek out a movie and mercilessly destroy it, and in doing so, I have formed my own opinions on what makes a movie great and what makes them horrible.

I want to give the movie an excuse. Afterall, this wasn't to amke a quick buck, or to cash in on someone else's work. This was the work of a man's passion, and passion alone doesn't pay the bills. Therefore, director Eddie Lebron obviously put a ton of effort into this project. It was obvious that he had a shoestring budget, so big time special effects would be non-existant.

And indeed, many of the effects came off as...really low budget. Like, worse than a SciFi Channel original movie. In many of these instances, I have to question the use of such effects.

But my main qualms rely on the story-telling, which is what typically must be used to pull off low budget films. Afterall, it doesn't cost anything to actually write a story that makes sense. But sadly, this is where the movie REALLY falls apart.

Join me, will you, as I write down my thoughts on the movie as I watch it. My notes may be a bit tough to follow, but y'know what? So was this movie's train of logic.

In the year 20xx...

Music seems okay. Just seems like the same stuff Hollywood has been turning out for the last 15 years, with the iron pounding noise and bells and whatnot. Matter of fact, the music seems to always be on in the background so far, which makes the film seem busier than it is.

Roll is laying it on a bit thick.

Why is she named Roll, anyways? Unless you're a fan of the franchise and know its part of a pun, you'd be wondering why a man in his 50s named his creation Roll. Maybe she's named after his favorite dinner compliment? Mmmm, cresants.

(As I'd find out, there's no real reason as to why Rock, Roll, and Blues are named the way they are in the movie. No reference to the pun, so it makes Dr Light come off...odd. This immediately sets the tone for how I perceive Light...)

You would think that a historically significant event like the combination of true AI and highly mobile bipedal machines would get a bit more attention. The fucking LOCAL news? No wonder Wily's so pissed off.

(In the movie's defense, the robots were unveiled months prior to this, but it still doesn't seem like as a big of a deal as it should be.)

Then again, this does take place in America, so it seems sadly appropriate.

Speaking of Wily, I take back what I said about Roll. THIS guy is REALLY acting his ass off, and he hasn't even started to take over the world yet. Kinda glad they didn't try to completely recreate his look, as he would look pretty fucking retarded in the real world with that hair. They coulda done a better job putting the gray spots in his hair, though.

And yes, Light's lab looks like my basement. Boxes everywhere, fucking trash everywhere, and people standing against a wall waiting for the firing squad.

Gutsmin? Cutmin? Goddamnit, its GutsMAN. When you pronounce it the other way you sound like you're talking about a Jewish college professor from Queens.

Onto the designs of the RMs, while I'm also glad they didn't go for a completely game-accurate asthetic for these characters, which would have been completely stupid and unwatchable, three of them look like high schoolers in spray painted hockey pads, and the other three look like background characters from the opening of Tekken 2.

The designs make Dr Light seem like more of a madman than Dr Wily. Are we supposed to believe that a Nobel Prize winning scientist thought Elecman's hair was completely logical (that'll never catch fire in high voltage environments), or that a supposed Arctic research robot would be fine wearing just goggles, whereas Fireman requires a full helmet? Hey, let's make Cutman look completely insane and serial killerish- that'll ease the minds of the human workers that'll be working alongside him. Gutsman and Bombman look just...stupid.

The human-played RMs all look like rejects from the Ah-nold movie The Running Man. I look at Iceman and I can't help but mutter "heeyuh iz Sub-Zeeuo....nau, plain zeeuo!"

And the reporter doesn't really seem genuinely impressed (acting? trying to portray a reporter who really doens't give a fuck about the ramifications of the story she's breaking?). Hard to blame her after Dr Light nonchalantly describes what they're supposed to do, like "Cutman...well, he could aid in deforestation". Yeah...I guess he could, I suppose. He almost seemed unsure of what the fuck he built him for.

Can't see a real need for deforestation these days, anyways. I mean, the Amazon is already getting fucked up beyond all repair, and there's that whole "green" movement that we're supposed to be going with. Maybe by the year 20xx they'll figure that's all a bunch of bullshit.

Light's explaination for them seems pretty fucking shaky. How would these things NOT eliminate jobs? If say, you get a guy like Gutsman who can demolish and rebuild a building much faster, how the hell can that NOT take away jobs?

But, he supposedly has that all covered by saying they'll need tons of guys to keep repairing his robots. How is that making ANYTHING easier for ANYONE?! You'd be trading in unskilled jobs for highly skilled jobs? WHAT FUCKING SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?!

"...And I don't wanna talk to no scientist cause those fuckers be lyin' and pissin' me off". Preach that shit, Posse of Clowns who are Insane.

No, I can't believe an ICP lyric could have ANY relevance to anything. Ever. Huh.

Nice Metal Gear Awesome cameo. Starting to figure out that Dr Light's mind is composed of YouTube clips and Newgrounds vids, which explains why he's out of his skull. And, looking at Roll, he may enjoy 4chan as well. Fuckin' /b/tard.

Rock is built last? Not a big deal in my book, but kinda weird. Then again, I just watched a scientist try to justify Bombman's existance outside of a video game, so whatever.

Lol @ Wily being FIRED.

Wily doesn't need the accent. He could have pulled off crazy maniac without it, and I would have taken him more seriously. The constant sweating, dark eye circles, and bad skin were already selling him to me as pretty unbalanced, so why the accent? Is somebody here a fan of the Megashow?

@ the picture of (presumably) Light's wife, who's probably dead or something (called it). Guess that explains why his "children" are Asian. Good, cause he was starting to look like a complete weaboo.

He builds Rock in a week?! Okay, that's REALLY stretching it, especially since he's building his robots in a home office without any heavy machinery. Maybe he has a magic machine somewhere in his home. That, or Rock, Roll, and the others are actually kidnapped people brainwashed into thinking they're androids. Suddenly, the movie seems more plausible and interesting.

Lol @ Wily living in an apartment. Oh, and his computer talks to him? Egads, it really is...THE FUTURE!!

God, Roll reading Excel Saga.

Rock seems remarkably fine with his very sudden birth. Not nearly as dramatic as I thought it would be, nor as impactful. Kinda stupid that Light has to tell him basic facts about himself despite personally programmed him. Unless of course we fly by the kidnapping theory.

Sleeping? Do robots dream of electric sheep?

I totally eat my pancakes like that.

Contra cameo. Best thing since the MGA cameo.

Why does it seem like a bad idea to me to allow your kidnapped vic-...I mean, newly developed, high tech android wander aimlessly around the city? Oh,and Roll's going too. Great idea.

At least they pulled off Blues in a cool way.

(No, they didn't. Read on.)

Rock definately has the most depth of all characters presented thus far, including Dr Wily, who is just too far into stereotype land to be saved. This is kinda sad, considering he's only been in half the movie so far. Roll has some depth, but lacks something to really make her three dimensional, and Light has been AWOL for the last 10 minutes, and we've been given very little about how he feels about creating life, or what he's been doing since Rock was activated. All we've been given about him thus far is that he thinks robots should only be used to benefit humankind (lol jobs wut?), and that outside of being a psychotic kidnapper he's a nice guy.

Blues has been pulled off nicely (Me after watching the movie; lol wut?). They went with the minimalist approach here, not spoiling everything about him right away, and only giving him the barest backstory. I'm starting to pick up a theme that Rock may be going down the same road as Blues did, since he feels out of step with the world, as Blues has been alluded to being. His line of "as machines, we WANT to belong" really hammers home this theme, and is probably the best one utilized thus far.

So, a third of the way in, the movie starts to pick up steam with Rock being brought to the forefront. This is probably how I'd want to handle the character if I were in Lebron's shoes.

"Asshole"? Did I hear that correctly? Guess Lebron definately lets us know who his target audience is with that single line, which makes the archiac RM premise more disappointing.

Wow, guess Light is such a peacenik he doesn't believe in door locks (it begins...). That, or he forgot to take his keys away from Wily when he fired him. Either way, totally in character for Light thus far.

We finally see the RMs moving about. The CG moves much like the way an early PS2 game would. This is gonna be rough...

Wait, so Wily makes a clean getaway with all 6 Robot Masters?! Holy shit, even the Ruby Spears version of Light caught onto Wily in the middle of the hijacking! Time to get Brinks, man.

"Let's do the robot!" Ha.

"The shitty...is yo playground."

What the hell, nobody really fears the obvious robot types and guys in jumpsuits before they attack, and even during? Never before in the movie has the low budgetness been more apparent, with a complete lack of reaction from the citizens, which would have been cruicial in selling the "robots are attacking OH NO!" factor. Not even screams from off screen pedestrians were dubbed in, which would have gone a long way in masking the fact that I'm partly watching some CG characters smash up CG cars on generic film of NYC.

Bombman's bombs just...appear? Out of thin air? Really? Good god...

An air raid horn? Is that standard NYC protocol for all robot outbreaks?

Yes, your hair looks fake.

"Downtown Fujiwara City"? Nice of them to finally let us know what fucking city we're in. Coulda sworn that Times Square and the Brooklyn Bridge were in NYC, though.

Congrats to Light for FINALLY being let in the loop that your robots have been hijacked. Great job. Maybe you should have invented LOCKS before AI, hm?

Classic Wily video hijack and threat. Suprised he actually said he was going to kill everyone in the city. That's pretty heavy stuff right there.

You should feel liable for this, you fucktard! This was YOUR show, and you botched it by not locking up your six obviously dangerous potential weapons!

"Sniper Joe?!" You built them and THEN decided against military projects? WHO WORKS LIKE THAT?! How many of them did you end up building before you made this decision, because you must make decisions VERY slowly if you built enough of them to block the friggin' military from entering the "shitty". And I see you used your mastery of locks to secure them as well.

Why does the news use a cartoon drawing of the Joe instead of showing us footage of the blockade? Couldn't they even animate a still instead of using a drawing?

Oh, and Wily stole all of your weapons along with the Joes. You're really, really stupid, Light. Really. Great job making sure your OBVIOUSLY unbalanced assistant, whom you more or less indicated was such during the interview at the beginning of the film with that sideways glance, wouldn't be able to just walk in and break in through the screen door.

This movie does far more damage to Light's character than any other incarnation of him ever. He was far more sane when he was ordering Rock to fetch him his peaches.

"Wily, you bastard." I disagree, bastard.

Pretty good performance by the actors during the "I volunteer" scene. Rock at least has creedence, since he was searching for a purpose before this event. Its more solid than "happy assistant to Dr Light suddenly making the transition to super fighting robot in an emergency".

MM's costume is consistent with the three actor-played RMs. In other words, Rock now looks like a dude wearing painted sports equipment.

Fighting all 6 at once?

The buster prop looks RETARDED.

...And he kicks all of their asses all at once within minutes of being upgraded. Wow. So, wherever Fujiwara City is, it must be in Costa Rica- the nation without a military, because that's the only explaination I can accept for having a military so goddamned weak that an amateur with a single weapon can totally own 6 "unstoppable" robots.

And the whole time, it still seems like nobody in the entire city really gives a shit about what's happening. Not a single scream amongst the feint sound of traffic.

I understand that scene was supposed to be really epic and badass, but it actually was more like when Tim Robbins shows up in the recent War of the Worlds remake, where the second he shows up the whole movie just goes from acceptable to completely fucking sucking AND being annoying.

Who made the call to have Megaman completely own every one of them like it was child's play in his first ever battle? It really ruined the whole movie for me. It was a stretch before this, but this act completely ruined it for me.

"GPS locators have been installed on all the bots"...WHAT THE HELL?! Why didn't these locators tell you they were moving the second Wily showed up?! WAAAUGH!

The Robot Masters personalities are finally shown in the scene where Wily is briefing them on the next step. The only one so far that seems out of place is Fireman, with his "justice" rambling from Powered Up. Everyone else is...okay. Though, Elecman shows promise.

Cameo by the stage select screen from the first game. At this point, all I can say is "yay".

Iceman's personality...Y'know what? I'm really tempted to turn the movie off at this point. What the hell, man...

Short fight that ends up turning into a fist fight for a few seconds before Rock blows a hole through Iceman. Kind of lame and anti climatic, but considering Rock was able to own all 6 RMs without any effort earlier, this was a foregone conclusion.

So, he takes their power by picking up random circuit boards that fell out of them? That's REALLY 80s, right there.

On that point, why doesn't Light just recreate all of the RM's powers for Rock right away? Oh wait, its because he's really fucking stupid. Sorry.

"Use it like a game of rock-paper-scissors." Aside form the obvious game reference, why? Rock has proven himself very capable of beating the RMs without their powers.

Fireman really has this lame Power Ranger's head bobble thing going on.

"FOR GREAT JUSTICE!" Well, that explains everything. Anonymous did it.

So, after kicking Fireman's ass almost as effortlessly as he did Iceman's, he stands there for a few seconds as a bomb rolls in front of him. Doesn't matter, since it is soon revealed that Megaman can BITCH SLAP HYPER BOMBS AWAY FROM HIM.

And with Bombman killed within seconds of appearing on screen for his fight, Megaman has killed half of Wily's henchmen with very little effort. And the threat was...?

*Blows up Cutman with Hyper Bomb, catches Cutman's weapon chip as it flies right to him* Wow, good thing it happened like that. It would have sucked if Megaman had to take a break from the NONSTOP HEART POUNDING ACTION to search the forest floor for the weapon that will likely do only as much damage as his standard weapon.

At last, Megaman has a challenge in Elecbastard, who proceeds to totally kick his ass and make his fight, y'know, INTERESTING. That is, until...

Blues shows up, no-sells the fuckin' Thunder Beam, and punches Elec's head clean off. Sounds awesome in fanfiction, but in a movie that took more than a weekend to create? Wow, way to ruin what thus far has been the most interesting battle.

So, Blues's backstory is that directly because of his faulty power core, he has free will. That's like replacing my car battery and having the tires instantly go flat for no reason at all. Not only is that a really weak explaination, but how is Blues's free will any different from Rock and Roll's? They have shown zero limitations thus far, and up until now there have been no mention of them, aside from Light explaining to Rock that the RMs could not be reasoned with because Wily had taken over their minds.

Not only that, but wasn't that X's whole deal? The concept that he had free will? Couldn't you have pulled off Blues without this bullshit? He was actually pretty cool up until this shit.

And they explain Blues being able to take the Thunder Beam with no damage as "we did our best, but perhaps we did too good?" Wow, that is REALLY half-assed. Okay, so why does Megaman need all the hockeypads if the technology to block death rays WITHOUT bulky armor exists?

Moving along, by the time Rock gets around to asking Light about his "mother", its pretty fucking stupid. Why do you have time for this when (supposedly) Wily is still wrecking up the place with Gutsman and the unseen army of Joes and "weapons"? Plus, it was pretty predictable by now, anyways (told you I called it).

*Gutsman dies after a semi-interesting, but still way too short fight* And the chip falls right into his hand again. Sick of that shit.

Weird music as the ridiculous Skull Castle appears. Also, Blues looks kinda retarded in his battle gear. Like a stupider version of Ruby Spears Protoman.

Oh shit, Yellow Devil!

Oh shit, Yellow Devil killed within seconds by godmodding Blues! Way to ruin the character...

So, if Rock's core dies, so does he? What the hell kind of design flaw is that? Even I took that possibility into effect when writing Wanted...

BLUES IS GODDAMNED COOL. Or, that's what I'm supposed to think. By now, I think he's been botched with the free will explaination.

Nice to see Copy Rock put to good use. Kidnapping doesn't feel so good now, does it Dr Light?!

Wily builds Copy Rock in less than a day using "crap in your (Light's) warehouse". I have nothing to say about this. Nothing at all.

Wily confirms my assertation on Light when he reveals that he still has access to every code in Light's lab. But, we already knew that Light was mind-blowingly niave and stupid, so this isn't news.

So, Light...you and Wily built Skull Castle years ago as a...rescue station? Oh, oh, let me guess...this was "locked up" along with the Joes, right?

When did Wily have time to put all that skull and W shit on the castle? You would think he'd use his resources a bit better, being that we're to assume this has been going on for only a few days. Plus, at some point he would have had to spend an entire day building Copy Rock.

Again, that may work in the games, but not in a movie. Its just way too cartoonish when we're in a movie that uses cuss words and talks about killing freely. Know your audience.

In the scene with Wily talking to Roll, Wily comes off pretty strong in his conviction, even going so far as to call Roll herself "crap" that he's wasted his time on. That's cold, dude. Just what we've needed in a villain. Too bad bad there was alot of other "crap" in this movie taking away from an otherwise decent Wily.

Nice usage of the Castle theme from Megaman 2, but why is Megaman just...flying? If you're gonna reference MM2, why not go all the way and use Item 2? And what's with the sprite appearing on Wily's monitor? Why make that?

Copy Rock shows up with his power; Lens Flare.

The flying is just way too much of a stretch for me. Honestly.

And all of a sudden, after Copy Rock gets frozen to death, we're in CG hell, with CG Wily Machine No 1 looking far worse than the RMs. Hoo boy.

I'm guessing he uses a charge shot to destroy WMN1? Sure, why not? We've already borrowed from the other games, and even given Megaman the ability to fly on his own, so what the hell?

And Skull Castle explodes above Fujiwara City, with every single piece of debris being vaporized, causing absolutely no harm to the city below! Hooray!

Ugh.

The Wily Capsule is huge.

"You're not gonna hurt anyone anymore, Wily. Now it is you who serves no purpose". Wait, Megaman's referencing something that...Wily said...to Roll...Ah, fuck it.

And the ending. Nothing of real note.

Best part of the movie? The Megas. But I certainly didn't have to sit through 90 minutes to listen to them.

I have to point all of this out because while I dismissed all of the story flaws of the games because, let's face it, the story didn't matter, I can't dismiss those same flaws in a movie, where the story is the main driving force.

The idea of robots doing the bidding of mankind in unskilled labor worked in the 1980s, before the advent of much higher forms of technology sorta put robotics on the backburner. So, here's this story set sometime in the near future, and it seems to go back to that 80s cyberpunk story element without any real justification.

I'm all about cyberpunk stories, but only when they make a bit of sense. So far, this doesn't. It takes the basic story from a 1980s video game without really updating it, which is crucial if you want it to really work.

Maybe if there was some sort of new element introduced, like for some reason the mortality rate for unskilled labor has skyrocketed, necessitating the need for automated workers.

Maybe I'm being too harsh. I mean, you do really have to love Megaman in order to make a non-profit film based on it, so I have to give Mr Lebron alot of credit for doing what nobody else has. The direction and cinematics are on par with what Hollywood is producing, at least.

But I'm having a really tough time getting past the antiquainted story premise, the acting, the very outdated looking CG and, frankly, stupid looking costumes for the RMs. By all rights, I should be loving this, but these things, all in the first ten minutes, really take me out of it.

As the movie went on, I developed an intense feeling of hatred towards Dr Light. He may be insanely good at building super advanced androids in a rented out office building using old fax machine parts, but he also lacks any sort of common sense. The whole movie wouldn't have happened if he had remembered to change the locks and codes to his lab after firing Wily, who was VERY OBVIOUSLY madly in hate with Light, with Light even acknowledging it before he fires Al.

At the same time, I felt empathy for Wily, which is stupid considering I'm postive Lebron did not intend this, and wanted Wily to come off as morally weak with a flimsy excuse. Instead, it turns out that Wily was flat out sick of being in the background and never getting any credit. Doesn't justify his actions in a sane light, but Wily obviously has lost his sanity long ago, so what am I supposed to feel?

The main problem this movie has is that it attempts to fall between a straight up adaption of the story, and a darker iteration with allusions to the source. This isn't the type of story you can do that with. You can go one way or another, but you can't cherry pick your favorite parts of both methods and think it'll work.

Once you get passed the point that this is a Megaman movie, there are serious, serious flaws. There so many that it kept me from enjoying it even on the first watch, and I doubt I'll ever go out of my way to see it again.

Some of these points seem a bit too harsh. And others seem to be levelled more at the source material than anything. Moreover, some are about the unaoidable deterrent of making a fan film with ZERO budget, and if that's a minus then the movie will automatically fail, no matter what. There's just no getting past what the film is.

I agree that all the plot points you listed were pretty bad. Not too much for me, however. Maybe I've just been exposed to more crap.

Couldn't have said it any better, Rich. Then again I'm usually not one for speaking considering my low post count.

All I can say is that I stopped watching this movie halfway, partially because I had to go eat dinner before I went to Iron Man 2. But mostly because I lost interest.

Films having no budget is not what I'd consider a fault when they are planned correctly and take this into account. Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy was developed under similar circumstances to Lebron's Megaman, and the results ended up being very different. MGS: P felt much more competent, though it still has its flaws.

I'm not blasting the source material, obviously. If I were, I wouldn't be here. On a Megaman forum. As part of a Megaman fansite. I'm blasting the fact that Mr. Lebron couldn't seem to choose whether or not this was a cartoonish tongue-in-cheek interpretation or a serious take on the story, so it drifts back and forth between the two types while never really picking one. The movie probably would have worked better if he went for the lighter tongue-in-cheek type of story, so that the very serious flaws in the story carried over from the bare-bones story of the original would have worked with him, rather than against. I actually think the movie would have been pretty strong if he went that route.

On the other hand, if he wanted a more serious story, as he seems to have wanted, he would have to really work out the many glaring flaws in the story and characters, rather than relying on the fans glancing over them as they do for the games. Or, maybe he thought the flaws would be somehow beneficial. I don't know, but I do know that the movie is pretty broken as is.

Disappointing, considering Eddie Lebron does have a certain cinematic flare that is held down by this movie.
