Ultimatum, also known as "Jeph Loeb's brain fart," was meant to reboot the Ultimate Marvel universe; in the end, almost half of the entire Marvel characters list died in either gory ways (Seriously, some of them looked as if they would belong on the pages of Kick-Ass) or really stupid ways, such as Daredevil and Nightcrawler drowning. Hopefully Loeb can earn redemption via "New Ultimates"

(I would've put up the picture right here on this page, but the tabs aren't working for me for the moment...)

Anyways, the lineup can still work (I am especially excited about Ultimate Punisher), but there's a few things that I'm a little confused with:

1. New Ultimates wasn't supposed to be governemnt operated. What's with Nick Fury smack dab in the middle of the picture?
2. Why is Hawkeye there if he's in the Ultimate Avengers?
3. Loeb later described the events in the series to be world-devastating, on par with the apokolyptic events in Ultimatam. Is it just me, or shouldn't we see some super-powered juggernauts for a task like that. Mr. Fantastic? Valkyre?
Somebody else?

This is just my thoughts; to be honest, Ultimatum is the only series by Loeb that's let me down. What are the opinions on the rest of you?

Loeb has a reputation for defying common preconceptions about what makes a good comic. Translation: a lot of fans will hate just about anything he does. He likes to keep things serious and goes for shock value, so you can forget about any stable normalcy as long as he's in charge of the scene.

Also remember that Ultimate was conceived as a way to put a fresh perspective on the MU not bogged down by decades of continuity. That was all well and good at first, but ten years down the line and surprise, they'd racked up their own decade of continuity. It's no surprise some were advocating burning down the house by then.

I never got into the Ultimate universe so I don't have an opinion of my own, but from what I hear, it's pretty much a crapshoot whether you'll like it or not.

I loved Millar's Ultimates because it was the comic book version of a popcorn flick. However, I'm taking a pass on his Ultimate Avengers. I spend enough money of comic books already.

The most exposure to the ultimate universe I have is Ultimate Spider-man on the PS2. That's a great game...

Anyhow, would this be a good time to join the party/

I really liked the Ultimate titles, current Marvel canon was too much for me to just jump into all of a sudden so it was nice to be able to read something from the start. I thought Millar did a brilliant job on Ultimates 1 and 2 but Loeb's Ultimates 3 was just balls. I didn't like the changes that were made and the story didn't impress, plus it all seemed to move too quick and I just couldn't get into it. Ultimatum actually made me stop reading Ultimate Marvel altogether, too many sudden 'deaths' and things that I just stopped enjpying it, it may have gotten better but at this point i don't care enough to see. Also Ultimate Punisher always seemed to be portrayed as a joke in most of his Ultimate appearances. All in all, i doubt i'm going to bother with this.

I just found out Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk was finished a while back so maybe that will get me back in the mood, after all Hulk was my favorite.

I read Ultimate Spider-man. When the trades come out. But the rest, I don't follow.

So Daredevil drowned? A pity.

Ultimate Spiderman and the Ultimates are probably all thats really worth the read, Ultimate Xmen wasn't bad and some of the team up stuff wasn't too bad either but nothing compared to Sipdey and the Ultimates in my opinion.
