So, tonight I went to my school homecoming. I had low expectations for it, and all of the girls I asked out couldn't come as they didn't go to my school and there was all this hassle about filling out these guest forms, so I went alone. A lot of people went single actually, and we just went with whatever we could get. I actually had a very good time, but...
Dances these days are just not my style. I realized that as the years went by, every dance I went to had more and more of this rap/hippity hoppity junk. Last year, the song that was actually the most dance-able was Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy. And now this year, not a single good old-fashioned rock song was played. Yeah, cranking dat like Soulja Boy is fun, but not when you do it a gazillion times in a row. I remember back when I was youngin I was watching those movies and TV shows, and the dances always looked something like this. And I said to myself, "Wouldn't it be grand if I could be in a dance like that?" Alas, that will never happen. My generation doesn't dance like that at all. Instead, they have dry sex with eachother (literally! guys will do a bridge and a chick just starts riding him in the middle of the dance floor!) and shake their body violently as if they're having a seizure. I'll admit that I conformed with the group and started getting into it, and two fine girls I didn't know randomly started grinding me from both sides multiple times..... But I'd rather do THIS, damn it! And I want there to be GOOD songs! Chicken Noodle Soup is NOT a good song! Daft Punk > Kanye West! But unfortunately, everyone else my age listens to this crap and think its good. And as my awesome civics teacher says, "What you call dancing is not dancing. That's what we call foreplay." Oh, if only it were the 90's.... -------------------- Waveman of the Ascendant Androids

I agree completely. I heard everyone listening to Stronger or Crank Dat and to tell you the truth, I hate them. At first I thought it was a phase but it grew, and grew, and grew until everyone's cell phones is on Crank Dat or Stronger.

Yeah, music today sucks... but the 90's weren't really much better, I don't think. Then again, I'm a high school sophomore, what do I know about the 90's except for what I saw on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network? And what I've seen in movies, of course.
Because, I mean, of course the 90's were better for you...you were 6, right? |

...there's a song called Chicken Noodle Soup?
I need to start listening to the radio. My amazement at the world's lack of creativity in music these days aside... I agree. If dances were actually.. yanno... dances, and not "LAWL LET'S DRY-HUMP ON THE DANCE FLOOR IN THE STUPIDEST WAY POSSIBLE", they'd actually have some interest to me. Alas, however, not everyone at the dances are professional dancers. Those two videos you provided would be one hell of a good time, Maks, but... it'd be more along the lines of 5 couples doing the dance correctly, about half of the rest of the student body doing something that has various degrees of allusion to the actual dance, but looking more like a bunch of idiots, half of the rest that isn't doing that looking like they're having seizures, and that last bit just standing around stupidly. But, I digress. You have a point, Maksy. The 90's were good years. -------------------- |

The 90's are being glorified by your memories, it happens, we all love our child hood but guys, read up on it and you will see there was more ignorance, less education, more racism, more war and even a bloody genocide! So today is better than then, soon kids will say these days were best and more than likely they will be wrong.
As for the music, there are more styles now than there was before so you will find more music now you hate than before. For some sucky 90's songs.... the macarena, Sexy Eyes, RICKY MARTIN, all the boy bands, the I'm Horny Song, the Burp Song, HANSON and Bjork! As for dancing, yeah its more sexual but i mean things have always become more sexual over time and they have almost always toned down, disco was pretty sexual for the time (not as bad as today) and well its gone now. Oh and dude, nobody and i do mean NOBODY danced like She's all that in the 90's that is more along the lines of 70's, 60's or 50's dancing or something (i dunno though because im not old enough), the 90's were fairly close to now and unless you were in a dance class or in a performance you did not do dancing like that, unless you are on crack or joking around mocking the dances. You're all too young to truly remember the 90's as they were, I'm too young to remember it properly and i was born in the mid 80s! Just my 2 cents. -------------------- |

Just wondering but you're younger than me so why are you talking like you're 50? As for the subject at hand I can't complain or anything because I'm homeschooled.

I absolutely (Insert any and all synonyms for HATE) dances. I usually sit off to the side, because for some reason, I get a kick out of watching people, and some nut-job always thinks that they're going to learn me some social skills and tries to drag me onto the dance floor.
I hate being touched/bumped into. So yeah, I don't like any form of dancing really. And as for music? I listen to video game music/classical/anime scores. Sooo... yeah, Rap does suck. To me, anyways. -------------------- ![]() I nominate Doomguy for next year's Nobel Peace Prize. He's a berserker-packin' man-and-a-half who gets shit done. |

I'm just going to go out onto a limb here, and say that everyone on this forum thinks rap sucks.
So... rap sucks. Everyone agrees? |

I enjoy older gangster rap, and some current rap like DMX. Granted I'd MUCH rather listen to metal. |

Ah... 90's... When music was awesome...
I WAS, as a matter of fact, born late, so that must be my source of love for scat. As for music these days... Well, I like to listen to S.O.A.D or Mattalica. Rap DISGUSTS me. -------------------- Terra of Cosmic Gladiators | Don't ask, just enjoy the show.

Haha, I didn't deliberately try to sound as though i were 50 all i tried to say is that we all naturally glorify our childhood (i do) and that the 90's weren't this awesome time of super. -------------------- |

The reason I can't stand dancing is that people don't know the definition of "dance" anymore. I always thought a dance was a nice, graceful, choreographed pattern that you had to learn. Now "dancing" anymore is just...jumping around or, like what's been mentioned already, dry-humping. I would probably like to dance if it was actually dancing, but yeah... The best I can do is Angus Young impressions, and that's not even dancing, that's just going insane on the floor. And that's just for a laugh anyway, I don't "dance"(or whatever you would want to call it) to impress. If you see me on a dance floor, it's proooobably going to be something really stupid.

Well, yeah... I guess that's true. Older rap is way better. It's not a bunch of posers like today. Not the fondest of it, but I can still listen to it for more than 15 seconds without having to scream out, "THIS SHIT SUCKS!" |
