Got no words for this, people...

Ok, ok, I do, but only because I'm such a dedicated smartass. This comic is... painful, that about sums it up. I actually want you guys to TRY and read this comic and tell me when you couldn't take it anymore. My personal record is 53, and that's only because I was looking for something riff-worthy.

This comic... Christ, this is terrible. You just know the author DESPERATELY desires to be the main character. I've seen some pretty terrible shit, but this takes the cake when it comes to ritual masturbation.

And you know what? She's not even that hot. Just LOOK at this Sarah nimrod. She has the most anorexic mutated skeletal system I've seen on a woman. And I'll be the first to admit, my drawing ain't exactly cartooning material, but at least I'm friggin' trying. The artwork proves she can draw effectively, but she actually WANTS the characters to look like they have some degenerate spinal disease.

Oh, and by the way, if that is not Guile from Street Fighter on page 19, I'm Jean Claude van Damme.

That was... um, interesting. I wouldn't call it "painful" ... more of a mindscrew than anything else.

Mindfuck done right.

Sarah Zero, on the other hand... it's just nonsense. It's a stream of words and phrases (With all the mental maturity of your typical angsty pre-teen). And don't confuse my hatred for this incompetent author with me not understanding the symbolism. Trust me, I GET the symbolism. It's not that hard to see what he's doing. It's that the comic is boring. Nothing happens. I read to friggin' page 53 and I still had no idea whether or not a plot had been established.

I think the artwork is rather good, actually. The exagerrated proportions are a stylistic choice, not one I get behind, but I can respect it. The colouring technique and effects are incredible, and those are the sort of things I focus on, as anyone who's seen my own art lately can tell.

Narrative-wise though, it's got nothing for me. I wouldn't call it a comic so much as a collection of expressive art pieces. You can tell he's going for something deep and original. It's not something that really grabs my interest though.

I wouldn't mind being Jean Claude van Damme! But yeah, shitty western art for the lose.

EDIT: Made it to page 104. The art style really doesn't bother me. It's their thing, and really isn't that bad - wish I could art half that well. The story's just weird as balls, and I'm not sticking it through for anymore than that. No thanks. But art-wise? It's not bad at all.

The art is something that I gotta give credit for as well. It's not apealing to my eye whatsoever, however, it still takes talent.

By the way, I stopped at 32, because that's when things really didn't make sense, skipping from one scene to another. Just like you said earlier, the whole time I was just waiting for something to happen...

On another note, do you notice anything wrong with this picture?

Well, he's certainly trying for deep and original, but his artistic lecturing is still wearing water wings at the kiddie pool.

The author (Ace Plughead) intended this whole comic to be a stab at pretentious, poorly-written comics in the form of a pretentious, poorly-written comic, which honestly makes me want to curb-stomp the man. He had apparently gone to Something Awful and submitted it for ego-stroking only to have the forum denizens collectively tell him it sucks, after which he had a complete meltdown which he later claimed was meant to be a parody of the behavior of the Something Awful members. Noticing a trend here?

This man stands for everything I live to hate. If there's one thing I can't stand it's someone who sacrifices the entertainment value of their work to teach a message. I love a good moral or deep hidden meaning, of course, but every good writer keeps that as a secondary goal. Any dipshit with a word processor can tell me what they think truth is or why we're here; you have to earn the right to preach to me.

Sarah Zero does not earn this right at all. What's more, the author has the testicular fortitude to retreat into the flimsiest of excuses that it's intended to be horribly written and pretentious. That doesn't excuse you, it just makes you a bigger prick. I shouldn't be reading your comic and think, "Gee, I really wish I was watching Manos The Hands of Fate right now." An ongoing comic needs so much more than just a good artist, and Ace Plughead should definitely hire out a creative writing consultant.
