So, I guess its a pretty good time to be a Metal Gear fan, specifically if you like Snake Eater and HD graphics.
Not only is Snake Eater being remade for the Nintendo 3DS, but the long awaited Metal Gear Solid HD Collection has been officially announced as coming around the same time as Snake Eater 3DS- November 2011. Guess I'm going to be broke that month. Snake Eater 3DS was shown with in game graphics for the first time, and it seems to be more or less on par with its original Playstation 2 counterpart. No word on whether or not it'll run in 60 FPS or 30, as the original Snake Eater only ran in 30 FPS and was substantially slower than Sons of Liberty. Aside from some gyroscope and camera gimmickery, the most important upgrade with SE 3DS is the use of the 3DS's bottom screen for the Survival Viewer. No longer will the player have to navigate through the cumbersome pause menu to heal Snake or feed him- we'll be able to do that on the fly using the touch screen, as well as view a real-time map and equip his weapons. That was the one wish I had for Snake Eater 3DS, and they nailed it. For the HD Collection, we're getting MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater, and MGS: Peace Walker, but no MGS1 (BULLSHIT!). Its still up to speculation as to exactly what versions of SoL and SE we'll be getting, be it the original release versions or the upgraded re-releases (Substance/Subsistence, respectively). However, they have confirmed that Snake eater will be running at 60 FPS, so I'm very happy about that. Peace Walker will be upgraded with graphics optimized for PS3 (not completely overhauled, but cleaned up and anti-aliased), and sport "Transfarring" capability. This means you'll be able to play Peace Walker on your PSP, then come home and transfer (transfar?) your save data and continue playing on your PS3. It'd be nice if I hadn't already beaten PW to death months ago. So, if you've missed out on these games in the past and wanted to try them out, you may as well wait until November to pick these up. These are some of the best video games ever created, and this HD remix will be the only way to fly once they come out. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm surprised that MSG1 wasn't included with this. Honestly, At this point, that's kinda of a let down and I would say, a bad decision. Unless they plan on porting it to Arcade/PSN.
Also, Zone of the Enders collection is going to be amazing. Hope to god people buy it. -------------------- |

The same crew that's doing the Metal Gear and ZOE HD Collections is also doing an Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection. Man, that's going to be badass.
I'm not too surprised that MGS1 didn't get the HD treatment. MGS2, 3, and PW are only getting slight texture upgrades and anti-aliasing, but MGS1 would require a substantial overhaul. This is an outside company doing the HD conversion, so I can't really blame them for not tackling something like a total revamp of a 13 year old game. But I'd still like to play an HD MGS1. Ah well. Something about those bobbing heads and blocky graphics remains charming. I suppose they could have reworked Twin Snakes, but from what I understand Konami doesn't own the license to that specific game. I also don't need to see Snake back-flipping over missiles. -------------------- ![]() |

To be fair, you can play Twin Snakes in 480p on the Gamecube as long as you have these: http://cgi.ebay.com/OFFICIAL-NINTENDO-GAME...=item1e643df6e8 |
