Thanks Beebles. wow.gif

A errata to the modifier system may be good... make it so that there is an established "perfect" score, and that the modifiers can only hedge up any other weaknesses in the deck.

You're likely to get more ties that way, but you won't get decks that
far surpass even the perfect score a deck without modifiers would get.
More likely, you'd probably have people giving more focus to the deck itself.

Not that I don't absolutely love the modifers... but I think I view the deck creation in these contests differently, seeking to exploit the modifiers first and then constrain it to the rules later.
I doubt many others are taking that track.

And that's what I want. I don't want people abusing modifiers... maybe next time it'll just be one bad card, one necessary card, and the deck's score...

I'm actually thinking about price ranges for one since my column is a "make a fun deck on a budget" sort of thing. That'd put a nice twist on things.

That's probably the best way. I mean, if you look at your scoring, noone has ever gotten a proper "perfect score"... as it should be.

Having a modest modifier that rewards creativity would serve the same effect, but when there are modifiers available that can double your score, you'll make some people adhere to them tightly, and then others who ignore them do so at thier own peril... which is a shame, because very often the decks they offer up will be tighter, more focused and more likley to be consistant.

I like the idea of a price range. It's just a compelling a constraint as a "bad card", or other such stumbling block...
you'll need to find a good site to use a baseline for it, and really clamp down on the price tag. Most people could field a reasonable casual offering for $20. A good number of people can do it for $10.
A bunch could probably do it for $5. But how about $3? $2?

Meh, your score wasn't bad. Next time around things are going to be a little different, so a better built deck will score higher points.

And, I didn't know you where Timster8, otherwise I would have put your name down. darn.gif

Yep, just like the early days of Magic, Beebles' contests are still in the process of growing and learning exactly what makes for the best, most competitive, and most fun... without becoming degenerate.

With tighter decks being more rewarded the next time, you can bet that einstienmonkey is likely to take the brass ring next time. smile.gif

I agree that the scoring system should be altered.
Maybe by adding "bad cards", "total value", extra rulez or bonusses.
But I think when we get extra points for adding new combo's;
The combopieces should be different each time... NOT only the killcondition!
Please do not award decks like:
combo 1) combo engine Infinite mana + fireball = game
combo 2) same combo engine Infinite mana + kaervek's torch = game
combo 3) same combo engine Infinite mana + drain life = game
etc.
etc. darn.gif

I think the rating system could go 1 to 10 (instead of 1 to 6),
that way you have more room for awarding great idea's!

Personally I wouldn't like the idea of valueing$ the deck,
it's a bit timeconsuming and doesn't seem to be attractive for new deckbuilders.
Same for the limit on the cardset. Damn, I don't even know what sets Extented is! I hate to look up for new card. This time I made an exception and builded as protest an T2-deck. I would rather want to see the whole cardpool (T1), with a ban on the restricted cards (P9 and stuff).

Overall, I think Beebles did a great job to comment all our decks.
Tumbs up for him! GOOOOOOoooooo Beebles!!!
