Anime: Paprika
Genre: Psychological
Creator: Satoshi Kon
Company: Sony Pictures Entertainment
Plot: 25/25 Some movies just make you go WTF?! 75% of those wtf movies are anime. This is one of them, the storyline is brilliant switching between the dream world and reality. Does it make sense, half the time it really doesn't, but that doesn't stop it from being the most insanely genius anime on the market. It is about a machine known as the DC Mini, this machine lets people view others dreams, however, this machine also causes deathly amounts of chaos. Someone has stolen the DC Mini and it's up to one person to save it, her name? Dr.Atsuka Chiba (codename: Paprika). The plot can be insanely confusing at times, but if you know Satoshi Kon's work, you know what to expect. The plot is the best I've seen in any anime to date beating all of Satoshi's work along with all other great directors work. You may end up heavily confused at the end of this movie, but you will also end up heavily satisfied from the stroke of genius that is Paprika.
Artwork: 14/15 Average Satoshi artwork here. The characters all look very well drawn and dream made monsters look quite unique. Did I also mention that the obesity of a certain character is also very well done. It's not like it's as mind blowing as films like Blood: The Last Vampire, but it's not trying to be, it looks fantastic.
Originality: 25/25 25! If it's made by Satoshi Kon it is as original as physically possible. The creativity of this movie is absolutely astounding! I guarantee that you will see nothing like this within the next 20 years. The amount of though you have to put into this is incredible. It makes you think like nothing else on this planet and that's a good thing. If you don't find this original your mind must be just as messed up as this movie.
Length & Music: 8/10 Meh it's a movie, the length is fine, although sometimes I do feel as if it is going by a little too fast, but if it was too slow my brain would probably explode. Music, if I recall is mostly japanese/american pop mixture, which is fine, though the upbeat music doesn't always fit the mood. I still dig the music and length though.
First Impression and Conclusion: 10/10 I first felt like this was a masterpiece, when it ended I still felt like this is a masterpiece. When you pop the movie in you will most likely comment about the overall originality and brains that this has. You may feel a little brain dead at the end, but you'll still feel perfectly satisfied.
Overall Feel: 13/15 I felt a tid bit overwhelmed when the credits began rolling, but at the same time I felt like I had just watched an unforgettable animated movie that will shock and awe you more than anything in existence.
TOTAL:95/100
Sorry this wasn't my best review, my fingers hurt xD. I may edit it and spice it up.
