Title: Global warming?

Mad7 - August 9, 2012 12:41 AM (GMT)
July is the hottest month on record.
The last 12 month was the hottest year on record.

Beech Creek Hiker - August 9, 2012 02:06 AM (GMT)
Before this record, there was a previous record. We will always have records in our lifetime because we have only kept records since the late 1800's. That's a pretty short time span in the earths history to start jumping to conclusions. Now don't start thinking I don't care about our future or our enviroment. I just think this man made global warming is crap.
If you look at record highs and lows over the last 120 years, you will see an obvious 30 year cycle. Temps peaked in the 50's, the 80's, and now. Nothing new under the Sun.

TxGypsy - August 9, 2012 03:10 AM (GMT)
I agree that the weather goes in cycles. I think whether folks believe in global warming or not that we need to take better care of our planet...use more gently renewable resources whenever possible, etc.

I'm really fond of clean air and water.....radical that I am :thumb:

I don't know everything about climate change. I have studied a little, so I am not an expert. So let me say this.
I can say that global worming Is caused by humans.

This is why I can say that and know that bch is more likely wrong and I am right.

More than 90 % of the scientist think that it is being caused by humans. They are the experts, they get the data, they know how to read that data.

So bch 120 years may not be enought time make a judgement, and then to blame it on the humans. That would be just stupid. From what I have seen in my brief studing that is not all they are using. If that is all you are using I can understand skeptical misinformed view. Not being in the field Of climentoligist I don't get your convection.

35 years ago in Mr Lynn's science class he told us about global worming. That was before 2005 hottest year record and now this one. He got it and he only had 85 years of global temp records. He got it and he was only an 8th grade science teacher, (maybe the best one ever).
So with all my convection, not believing it is man caused is "crap".

Poppy1D - August 9, 2012 09:20 AM (GMT)
I agree with BCH, for the most part and I also believe that man's impact on 'global warming' is small compared to the natural climate changes that earth goes through on a daily basis. One reason that it might seem greater is that we can see our impact but the natural changes are so small and slow that they have to be measured over a long time span. Therefore, not so apparent. Just a thought. :dunno:

A report by a longtime global warming researcher has concluded that recent extreme summer weather was linked to climate change. The study by a team led by James E. Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, was published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Here's more on the study from Richard Muller, physics professor at UC Berkeley, who for years was a climate-change skeptic but recently declared that he is now convinced that not only is global warming real but that human beings are the overwhelming cause of it.

Convinced he may be, but on Tuesday he said that the report by Hansen was overstating the case. "I agree with his findings, but I think he presents it in a way that greatly exaggerates what the result is,” Muller said on "The Madeleine Brand Show."

Here's an excerpt from the interview explaining what he means by that:

"If we are a degree warmer, which is what he and I agree we have warmed up in the last 50 years -- one degree warmer -- then you will have more heat spells, they'll be a little bit hotter, more records -- but they'll only be one degree. When he says expect more heat waves, what that means is, if you were used to a heat wave of 101 degrees, now you'll have a heat wave of 102.”

Hansen termed this as a 100-year event now becoming a 10-year event, and Muller doesn't disagree. But, Muller says, it's again worth noting that this much-more-frequent event is just 1 degree warmer.

In an opinion article in the Washington Post, Hansen linked the findings to the "deadly European heat wave of 2003, the fiery Russian heat wave of 2010 and catastrophic droughts in Texas and Oklahoma last year."

Muller said that there is "not even a hint" that global warming can be specifically linked to those events.

Science tells us today that the center of the earth is moltel magma, course we have never been there so how do we know for sure? :dunno:
So, until something is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, science should be taken with a grain of salt. and maybe a shot of tequila to boot. :har:

Global warming might & probably is real. But the fact that Al Bore got the ball rolling is very suspect. He has made millions with all his schemes & flys all over the world spouting his :bullS: & leaving a massive "footprint" with all the fuel he's using, not to mention his mansions which probably use more power than 100 average families. Bore wants the U.S. to lead the way with higher taxes & billions that we don't have, while letting China & all the other upcoming countries who are building coal plants by the hundreds probably with no pollution controls slide. I'm with "o" on this.[OMG!!!] Let's lead from behind. :thumb:

You guys are funny. Thanks

Mad7 - August 10, 2012 10:33 AM (GMT)
You do know why they thought the world was flat? Right?

I don't know if that is the best line of rebuttal.

Let me get this right you only believe things that have no shadows of doubt. Uhm hello God. Christian science?

I am glad you saw my typo, I would hate to have my argument discounted because t can't type.

Al Gore really didn't get the ball rolling. He just made a movie about that ball that was rolling. I first heard about it '79. It may have been rolling before that even. I think the industrial revolution may have started it.

It's 2012 we have Internet. There have been many movies made that will explain the science behind climate change. If you get a watch in the www you can re watch the parts you have trouble with. Ted talks has an entire section on it. Those are really short so they keep your attention.

Slingshot there are reasons why some organizations want to misinform the public. Like Exxon.

Would it really matter if I posted links? Would it?

Even when you talk with the conviction of absolute truth, some people still know you don't know enough to have that conviction.

There is a real way to debate this. You guys really don't know enough about it to do that. It really shows when you say the nuggets in the above posts

It was cute to read. I got a good chuckle. Really thanks

Mad7 - August 10, 2012 11:04 AM (GMT)
Slingshot I just started to look at the skeptic link you posted some of the names are dups so your list is shorter. They are all right wing proganda sites.

Real scientist disagree with that.

NASA is not red or blue, just real life (smartest in the world) scientist. They are 99% sure it's man made.

http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20120806/WIRE/120809767

Don't believe that one google "NASA climate change man made"

Do you guys think you are smarter or understand more than NASA scientist?

It really doesn't matter who is right or who is wrong. :dhorse:

But what abou the shadow of doubt? Yours are not scientist.

It does matter. Because with man made climate change all the horses will be dead

Show me anywhere in the KJ Bible where it mentions Global Warming just one time. Scientist are mostly paid to come to the conclusion of there employer. This is a proven Fact.

The only absolute truth that I know is you & I are not going to live forever!

Glad that I could bring a smile to your face, Thats a lot better than a swift kick in the A :D

Yes some are experts and some are just plian ole "hacks" looking to find a big grant here or there to fund their skewed data they inundate us with.

Yep....If I'm not mistaken didn't the e-mail hacking incident show that universities were in on the altering of data along with the so-called experts while at the same time feeding their lies to the world? Just asking!!!

TxGypsy - August 10, 2012 06:02 PM (GMT)
Finally! I'm going to be able to solve an argument rather than start one!

Can we all agree that clean air is a good thing?

Can we all agree that clean water is a good thing?

I think I can even ask for an Amen about here.

Lets keep the air and the water clean and any global warming or cooling that may go on will be due to forces beyond our control. Problem solved!

I'm gonna go enjoy a bit of solar warmed salt water and a real honest to goodness cold coca cola.....in a returnable glass bottle(remember those?). I think if we'd all do a bit more of this sort of thing, that most of the world's problems would sort themselves out :thumb:

slingshot - August 10, 2012 07:05 PM (GMT)
Mad7, the earth changes. On it's own. That's what it does. It did it for billions of years without man's help and it's doing it now. Please don't tell me how smart you are again. Even in a round-about way. I believe you. I believe you.

I think that I accidently deleted your last post. If I can retrieve it I will. In either case, I apologize.
