Title: FAQ's

Wilfrid - March 15, 2004 05:09 PM (GMT)
Might save some time if I start posting answers to obvious questions here.

1. Why can't I post?

Either you haven't tried to register, or more likely you have but I haven't checked the validation inbox in a while. I have to validate your registration. The only way to avoid delays is for me to sit here day and night checking, which I won't be doing - so please be patient.

2. Who is paying for the site?

Nobody. It's free. The ad banner on the front page, which I find fairly unobtrusive, is how Invision presumably makes some money. I am making none and paying none.

3. Who's dreamy?

Wilfrid.

How can I start getting the New York Times delivered at home?

You know, I missed that entire thread. Absolutely clueless (ok, that'll be quite enough) :) .

Who did the terrific sketch at the top of the page?

Wilfrid - March 23, 2004 10:37 PM (GMT)
Ah, if I could find out then I could do something about copyright. I found it on a site which doesn't appear to own it.

What I think I'll do, when I get time, is come up with an original logo along a similar theme. Meantime, if anyone owns the copyright to the above sketch, please contact us. :(

Edit to add: Okay, I got off my bum and e-mailed that web-site to enquire if they own the rights and would grant permission, etc...

In search of a Rhodesian Ridgeback in London, I was wondering where others find pets. May we have a puppy forum?

Your best bet is to locate the club in your area for the breed in which you have an interest. They will recommend breeders.

Buy your dog from a reputable breeder, never from a shop. Take the time to educate yourself about the breed, its pros and cons, its health issues, before you buy. Ask the breeder lots of questions. Any breeder who won't answer your questions is a breeder you should cross off your list.

What is the new 'guest' category?

Slapsie Maxie - March 29, 2004 03:25 PM (GMT)
is there a way to avoid chaffing when "going commando"

S

Wilfrid - March 29, 2004 03:41 PM (GMT)
Is there a...?

Anyway, the Guest category. Several accounts are currently Guests rather than Members, but for no reason other than that several people, when joining, managed inadvertently to create duplicate accounts under different names. Nobody has had their membership downgraded in any way.

Slapsie Maxie - March 29, 2004 03:42 PM (GMT)
why don't hookers kiss?

Why? Why oh why? The Big Why?

Unless their clients are short, fat and bald I'd guess :)

Wilfrid - March 29, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
Slapsie's not all that fat.

You can't afford my mama.

(Er, hang on... )

What is the position of the site on Ontological questions?

g.johnson - March 29, 2004 05:13 PM (GMT)
Oh, for fucks sake, now you'll have set Wilf off.

Wilfrid - March 29, 2004 05:17 PM (GMT)
Gavin, I'm glad you asked. The official policy of the site is that ontological questions exist.

jinmyo - March 29, 2004 05:17 PM (GMT)
Why is it that Being presences as beings but is never itself present as itself?

Wilfrid - March 29, 2004 05:28 PM (GMT)
Because Being is not a being. Being does not "presence as beings"; only beings presence. Being is the presencing of beings, a presencing which is at the same time a concealing of Being itself.

g.johnson - March 29, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)
I warned you this would happen.

Slapsie Maxie - March 29, 2004 06:06 PM (GMT)
I give the site three months

S

Wilfrid - March 29, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
You're all banned.

dilettantepicure - March 29, 2004 07:33 PM (GMT)
(all together now!) "we are all individuals" B)

jinmyo - March 30, 2004 01:20 AM (GMT)
But Wilf, isn't the horizon of Being uncovered as the presencing of beings in their being?

Rail Paul - March 30, 2004 02:28 AM (GMT)
can beings be, independent of others, or does a state of being require others to acknowledge being?

A being, in nothingness, is nothing, and thus, not a being...

Lippy - March 30, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
And why is Lulu banned? Who is s(he)?

ampletuna - March 30, 2004 08:01 AM (GMT)
3 posts and banned, that must be a record.

Perhaps these kinds of questions could be asked via PM, so that we could keep the board free of potential rancorous discussion? (Note, I have no idea who LuLu is)

Orik - March 30, 2004 01:13 PM (GMT)
nobody's banned

Slapsie Maxie - March 30, 2004 01:35 PM (GMT)
I see

It must have been the word BANNED on their user profile that caused all the confusion

S

Orik - March 30, 2004 01:45 PM (GMT)
must have been, but as LuLu would assure you if he or she could post, nobody's banned.

eh?

Wilfrid - March 30, 2004 02:42 PM (GMT)
This is the same thing I was talking about in relation to "guests". We had several people with duplicate registrations, so we've been tidying up. In the highly unlikely event of a ban being contemplated, we'll consult with the membership one way or another. Orik and I aren't banning people - relax.

Wilfrid - March 30, 2004 02:48 PM (GMT)
Jin: the horizon of Being is time.

Paul: to be is to be in the world. I can't make sense of a being in nothingness.

jinmyo - March 30, 2004 04:12 PM (GMT)
Wilf, "it's about time, it's about space; it's a-bout the hu-man race."
