Wilfrid, I understand that this a free site so probably one must upload to another site and then post a link to an image.

Right?

I've just started taking a few pictures (=wasted bloody dozens of hours fiddling about with bloody camera thing and plug and bloody re-sizing and whatnot) so just wondering.

Ta ever so.

I have no idea. I think it's possible to permit uploading. Orik?

possible, but we have very little space here, so probably not advisable.

pixelchef - didn't you once post a link to a remote-link-friendly picture hosting service?

If some people wanted to chip in and buy some space (not that I know what I'm talking about, technically speaking) - how would that be? How much does what cost with Invision?

We'd probably do it with someone other than Invisionfree (btw, they're not Invision). The cost is practically nothing (less than $100/year for as much space and bandwidth as we could imagine using).

Well I'd be happy to contribute and/or help do whatever, when it becomes appropriate.

and upload your pix with few restrictions, then post links to them on the board.

No problemo!

Cabrales, you need to change that link. That link includes your username and password and effectively logs whoever clicks it in as you, which means that they can change all your stuff.

Stephen -- Thanks for the update. After your cautionary note, I couldn't see any other way to upload the photos, however. Since the only photos there are photos I plan to post on this board, I'm not too worried. If I changed the link, how would I get the photos visible to everybody?

The webhosting site described above has a limit of not that many pictures per free account. Are members aware of another site that has considerably greater free account capacity?

OK. I;'ve thought about a potential solution for all of us to consider. If Orik or another administrator could set up an e-mail account for this site and then use that e-mail to set up an ofoto.com account. The latter account is free, and accommodates infinite loaded-up photos. Then, the password for the ofoto account would be shared with members of the site. The pros:

-- Limitations on capacity of free webhosting sites is avoided.
-- Everybody can get prints of key dishes if they would like.
-- Avoids individual members having to sign up for free webhosting sites.
-- Indirectly encourages posting of pictures.
-- Organization would be easy. Each member's visits to a given restaurant can be saved into one folder. So one folder might be "cabrales -- Blue Hill at Stone Barn".

The con:

-- If only one Ofoto account is used, then anybody who gets the overall password could remove or alter pictures. (There is a potential way to sidestep this, which is to use two Ofoto accounts, the first of which has a confidential password only shared with known posters of pictures on the site, and the second of which then receives a "shared file" from the first account that cannot be modified by the second account).

What are members' thoughts on the above proposed solution?

This isn't a bad idea (and I'm sure others are using it), but ofoto explicitly forbid this in their terms of service. I think we will have a better solution within a couple of weeks, hopefully the space available on the free host suggested (or others) will suffice until then.
