Ok,does anybody know exactly how old The Stranger is?Its a question thats invading my mind..in myst 3 its a few years after the end of Riven, and in Myst 4 its ten years..and I know its always the same stranger cause Atrus always refers to the player as "My friend."So does anyone have any clue on how old the stranger actually is?(Note:I think its a trick question)

Hmmm goooood question.

Working backwards
In Uru Yeesha is what? 20? AND in the form of a message from the past - so lets assume it was recorded only 10 years earlier. Meaning Uru is 20 years after Revelations where Yeesha is 10.
Revelations is 10 years after Exile
And I assumed Exile to be several years after Riven. (5 at least)
Riven could take place straight after Myst.

Meaning in URU you are about 35 years older than when playing Myst.

Which may explain why my character has so much grey hair tomato.gif

Well, no. Dice emailed RAWA once asking just how it was that you were in Myst but also Uru, with about 200 years in between. Short story shorter, it isnt the same you. The Stranger/Traveler/Player/whatever you call you, is in Myst. Actual you is in Uru.

Marto hasn't played Uru: PotS yet, has he? There, you learn [SPOILER] that Yeesha can travel thru time.
Basically she came all that way just to see you... how touching...

But to answer the main question: it's up in the air. Atrus seems to be perty popular, so many friends that do insane things for him (like blow things up in Riven and Revelation)

I was guessing. So I thought I'd be a bit off.

I liked POTS best of all the URU parts though, I am stuck in fact I have given up and since I upgraded my PC I have in effect lost all my saves too so I would have to start URU from scratch and that is a big commitment!

sigh!

Adding to Marina's post...

In M3E, Atrus only wonders what you've been up to in the past few months not years. Riven I assume happened right (or so) after Myst, within a few days perhaps (still, why would he be overly relieved that you returned?).
Revelation happens 20 years after the end of Myst, when Atrus burns the books. At least, that's what I could hear. No idea why my DVD-Rom drive doesn't like playing video and audio at the same time...
As for Yeesha, as Marina said, she can travel through time, though that doesn't exactly explain her message that you "won" Uru prime. Exactly how would she know to record that? And no way to lose Uru either, that was ever so slightly disappointing...

Replying to Marto, I like PotS, but it's a bit too hefty (GB terms) for me now. 2.6 if I remember right. Revelation was worse. Far worse. 3 GB minimal. MINIMAL. Full was 8 notsowell.gif .
Still, I've beaten it and PotS twice.

This is all in the timelines of the site guys!

Myst and Riven took place back to back. About a week inbetween. Exile was 10 years after that, Revelation was 10 years after Exile and Uru was present day (about 200 years after the original Myst).

It seems like I've played MYST again most recently. At the end of the original MYST (and realMYST for that matter) Atrus allows you to link back to MYST but says that he may need your assistance in the future, basically asking for you to return. Since he is constantly stablizing Riven, He can't go out and check to see if you will come back or if you found a way home and abandond him. Thus, it makes sence for him to be so glad to see you when you return to help him in Riven

still a skeptic.

How much TIME passes between Myst and Riven? If it's like, months since you see him, then sure, it makes sense.
But it still don't. Ok, so perhaps you wouldn't want to have to

****SPOILING EVERYTHING... sry****

put in the code to see him every time.

My biggest problem with the Myst D'ni-physics: how does Atrus see you and/or speak to you through the Green book? It isn't a Prison-type trap like the red and blue books (posing another problem with Haven and Spire). The prison book schematic works fine: a dark void in between the link where you see out of the book in Riven. He talks to you, how do you hear him?

Should start a Theorys-type section like on DPWR here. Figure out what we all think Linking Books, well, ARE.

Can't remember where but I think RAWA said it was like a week between Myst and Riven.

According to RAWA, you cannot speak through books. Also, Atrus would not be able to see you if you opened the book. The real Myst story I believe you took a linking book with you to D'ni. You never spoke with the brothers or Atrus before that, but you knew they were trapped in the red and blue books.

Not totally sure how it all is suppose to work out. huh.gif

Perfect example (wait, maybe only example): Trap Books...

would have been great if they existed (elsewhere in the series)
