It sure is! You're the one that got me to sign up for them a long time ago! That was a lot of fun in those days...with The Great Tree and other mods. I'll miss the prologue days, like when Gas Station Stan (I think that was his name) used to post hints to puzzles that would lead to teaser images of Uru. boozer.gif

I wonder why they shut it down. Do you know? Did they just not have the bandwidth to pay for the servers anymore? I could have hosted it here huh.gif

I think it was a combination of things...cost of hosting, lack of activity, lack of interest (both members and admins), apparently the forum software had been so customized that updating it would've been a nightmare (even tho I thought it was fine the way it was), etc. They never did get the database (gallery, walkthroughs) put back together after the last crash (or whatever happened).

I know some folks were trying to archive as much of the forum as they could. I was kind of surprised no one stepped up to offer hosting...but then again, the interest just wasn't there. smiley-sad.gif

I wouldn't know what it's like to have a forum that no one's interested in posting to huh.gif

Well, don't look at me....I've been posting here a lot more than the others, or the admin for that matter. huh.gif

pretty much a case of no staff members willing to do anything any more - and that's forum mods as well as background site mgmt. they never made any attempt to replace mods who'd taken off years ago. have no idea if anything was done to replace website mgmt people.

one post was made about possibly closing down and asking for someone to take over everything. no emails sent out about it (not that i'm aware of anyway, i didn't get anything) and if people aren't checking in, there's no way they'd have seen that post and thus have been able to do anything about it. wasn't too long after that (couple months, iirc) that the other post, with firm 'we're going to close' showed up. seems like, once the final date was posted (months after final decision was posted), there was some interest from a few people in taking over things...too late? too little? owners of everything changed their minds? dunno.

i miss it. a lot. there was a fantastic vibe there and even with disagreements that happened between people, things always worked out and 'the community' facet never was lost. well, until the slackers had their say about things - that and urulive tanking hurt things and members drifted away. to come back again later with all the various incarnations of uru happened. after the last tank of it, people seemed to give up. i'd noticed most of the other myst related sites also had lower activity as well.

it's really sad that they closed down. it's the end of an era and a beginning of the end of it all i think. and that saddens me most of all.
