Gays will still be effectively banned anyway, because you have to abstain for 12 months to qualify for donation, unless you lie - which you could have done before.

If I get ill I've decided I'm going to Sweden

The government's Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs has been reviewing the policy.

Committee member Prof Deirdre Kelly said the safety of the blood supply is "absolutely essential" and that any restrictions "must be based on the latest scientific evidence".

She said there had been advances in the testing of donated blood which had significantly reduced the chance of errors and had reduced the size of the "window period".

She said the data showed that "the risk from a 12-month deferral was equivalent to permanent deferral" so "the evidence does not support the maintenance of a permanent ban".

cool maybe we can change Canadian policy

oh wait social conservatism...

I wouldn't worry for Britain long as it's got Jeremy Clarkson. One day he'll just say, "I've found a cure for AIDS. It's called... AIDS!", everyone will laugh, and everything will be all right again.

Those cases are so ridiculous, it's almost okay to laugh at them.
A 10cm open gash to the ribs and denied an ambulance and recommended aspirin, or denied the ambulance in three sourced incidences because the callers was still verbally communicating.

Lol. Britain solved this problem in the 1940s by just taxing you more for it and providing a worse-than-could-be-achieved yet better than Sweden service that's not that free, but freer than the US.

Love how everyone panics on the potential ability for AIDS to be transmitted through the blood supply if someone slips up. Despite it being a remote possibility.

And yet, nobody knows about the hundreds of thousands of people who were infected with Hep C in the 1980s because the Red Cross was too cheap to pay for a $5 test for it.

Next you'll be saying Turkey isn't a developed and civilized European nation with a perfectly non-violent history.

It's really not that rare. According to one of the original articles, 25% of new GRIDS cases.

Rich and Corporations - September 11, 2011 07:44 PM (GMT)
Yes. A psychiatrist (not a peer-reviewed study) estimates that 25% of all new cases are voluntary.
The article's author extrapolates that 25% based on medical statistics.
Clearly.
