Summary
The Gewehr 85 rifle is a masterpiece of Cazatanian firearms design. It was designed in 1985 by the nearly unknown New Berlin Arms company. It quickly became one of the most popular civilian firearms in Cazatania, almost besting the popularity of the FN FGR. It's low cost, variety of calibers, and almost unbelievable reliability allowed at least a hundred million Gewehr 85s to be produced in Cazatania alone. Royal Arms contracted a deal with New Berlin Arms in late 2001, which allowed the rifle to be exported to foreign shores. Along with the rifle, a number of accessories for it were brought to the world market for sale to customers of the G78. The Cazatanian army is in the process of adopting a variant of the Gewehr 85, known as the G85; it will fire 7x40mm CAZARM ammunition.

Features
The Gewehr 85 is extremely reliable because of the large gas piston and clearances between moving parts. These design features allow the gun to endure large amounts of foreign matter without jamming or malfunctioning, a hugely useful ability in any environment or climate. The bore and chamber are plated with chromium to increase the service length of these parts. The fire selector is located on the side opposite of the action, and resembles a that of a G3A3. The words SEMI, 2BURST, or AUTO are engraved into the lower receiver, in the same fashion as the AR-15 platform of rifle. To reduce the recoil on most of the calibers, the G78 is a rather heavy rifle, however, it is lighter than most battle rifles such as the G3 or the FN FAL. When chambered in smaller calibers such as 5.56x45MM or 5.45x39MM, there is almost no recoil.
