Description: super PIAT
Satirius - May 6, 2011 01:11 AM (GMT)

Type: Captive-bolt demolition device
Designer: smart guy with a workshop
Designed: 1975-1980
Producer: any retard with a workshop
Produced: 1982-now
Specifications-Length: 700mm
-Weight: 5.3kg
-Rate of fire: 2~3rpm
-Effective range: 200m direct fire, 650m indirect fire (HEDP)
-Sights: ladder sights
DesignThe T8 is basically a metal rod that holds a bomb, and ignites the propellant within the shell via magneto when the trigger is pulled. This system has several advantages over reloadable rocket launchers. First of all, there is no backblast by nature of the design, removing the need to use a countermass system. The T8 also cannot be detected by heat, as all the gases are trapped inside the round's stem, which also allows for a very fast rate of fire. It also produces very little sound compared to rocket launchers (only 52 decibels at one hundred meters, around the loudness of a normal conversation), making it tough for infantry to locate where the bombs were coming from, and making it that much easier for crews to relocate between firing positions.
An illustration of the ignition principle. However, the main disadvantage of the weapon is that it is not recoilless, and in fact has quite appreciable recoil. Avoiding the PIAT path of transferring the recoil to discomfort, instead a shock-absorbing buttplate was fitted, along with a spring to release the rod once the shell leaves, in an ersatz "blow-forward" operation. A latch secures the rod system in place when a shell is in place, so it also acts as a second safety.
The pop-up sights are a simple ladder, aimed against a post. The mortar can be fixed to an indirect firing baseplate, with markings for range based on elevation.
Ammunition-High Explosive Dual Purpose, Caliber 66mm, M70: HEDP round, and ballistic baseline for the weapon.
-High Explosive Anti Tank, Caliber 66mm, M71: HEAT round, capable of penetrating 200mm of armor
-Fuel-Air Explosive, Caliber 90mm, M72: Thermobaric round
-Demolition, Caliber 90mm, M73: HESH wallbuster round
Non-lethal munitions:
-Smoke, Caliber 57mm, M80: Smoke round, various subtypes for various colors
-Illuminating Flare, Caliber 57mm, M81: Flare round, various subtypes for various flares
-Practice, Caliber 66mm, M82: Dummy HEDP mockup

Question: Can I put one of these on the bayonet-mount of an SMLE rifle?
Secondary-use: cattle-prod.
Satirius - May 6, 2011 03:04 AM (GMT)
look at the op again, sadly it's too large for SMLEs
Bloody_Sahara - May 6, 2011 04:00 AM (GMT)
so it's a... spigot rocket?

Spigot mortar is the correct term.
And a 200m effective range seems long, unless that's the range of the iron sights. Then it just seems optimistic.

I'd assume by 200m you're lobbing it at quite a steep angle, and there's an appreciable amount of propellant producing an appreciable amount of recoil

Might add rocket assist to HEAT and FAE bombs
Should I?

You already have HEAT, do you?
And thermobaric is always win, so yes.
I like this design. Will it be for sale in NS? (Looking at the "producer", I guess the best way to buy this is through the black market...)

Lol at gas rounds on the platoon level.
No gas below the brigade level, Izi. Unless all Sat's troops are equipped with NBC gear... :D

Gas=gay and of little use anyway
I'd imagine the rockets would need more stabilization (possibly spin) and the early wobble of the narrower 66mm rounds would be a very bad time to ignite the rockets, which aren't guaranteed to not exacerbate the problem. After all, they could ignite just a little out of sync and...

how much payload can you expect to get from these explosives, specifically the HESH ones?
Kyiv - May 9, 2011 01:34 AM (GMT)
Weak. There's a gas RPG round.
But RPG's are better than spigot mortars anyways.

1000m range wat cut it down a bit
ROF of a bolt rifle from a muzzleloader wat, not without a separate loader, and you have to unload this thing so not even with. The mortar you're ripping off has 2 rpm.
Also it's 52 dBA at 100m from the mortar, not a lot of normal conversations at that distance (still a lot quieter than normal though).

1000m range when thrown from an indirect fire position
LGI Modele F1 says "up to 30 rpm" (and not just WP), and that's quite presumably making that with a separate loader. I should clarify both those things, and revise the noise figure.

You did read that article Allanea translated, did you? :P

Alright, hopefully fixed.

I was actually thinking in terms of an un-sleeved nade-chucker like the Model 16 Granatenwerfer.
