See this game? Go download it NAOW.

Super-lolzy pics from my last launch:

Have I got enough SRBs?

Maximum altitude. Not the greatest rocket and nowhere near the most efficient, but it was GLORIOUS.

They landed safely in the ocean 12 minutes after launch.

ROCKETRY HEIL

The above images are me getting multiple simultaneousish launches working.
The below screenshot is hacked - I increased the thrust output and reduced the fuel consumption of liquid boosters to try to get to as fast as possible. This is what happened with an inefficient design, but eh. Good enough. Note velocity and final altitude

I made a terrible rocket:

Stage 1 (technically):
user posted image

Actual stage 1 is a booster set used to help launch the rocket. It is too heavy to be lifted directly off the launchpad rofl.

Stage 2:
user posted image

Yes, I was fighting for every inch of ground I gained. Stage 2 was a lot easier, though.

Stage 3 Separation:
user posted image

At this point I tried to turn the rocket into an ICBM because I wanted to hit things. Didn't work.

Ignition blew the 2nd stage out of orbit or w/e.

Stage 4:
user posted image

Changed mind and tried to aim towards land to land on.

Again, didn't work.

I also let the previous stage fall far enough that it didn't explode.

Stage 5:
user posted image

Now in freefall and I didn't reach maximum altitude.

Still not over land. ):

Parachute deployment:
user posted image

Parachute deployed at just under 5 km in height.

Opening:
user posted image

They all lived in the end.

Yay.

On the other hand, I did make a normal rocket go on a lulzy trip, because the rest of it exploded ):

Failed on Pad

I use "apoker" as opposed to "apogee" and "periker" as opposed to "perigee". Apoker is the furthest distance and periker is the closest distance.

[01:45] <+MarieHawke> Apoker 190.357 km.
[01:45] <+MarieHawke> Now to wait about 20 minutes for periker...
[01:48] <+MarieHawke> Current velocity around 2113.6 m/s. Textbook value for circular orbit is, at 190 km, Vcirc = 2113.85 m/s, Tcirc = 39.14 min, Vesc = 2989.44 m/s
[01:49] <+MarieHawke> Not sure what my current land speed is. On one hand, my highest listed is 2123.8, but...
[01:49] <+MarieHawke> That's a bit fast for 190km.
[02:01] <+MarieHawke> I'm almost at periker.
[02:03] <+MarieHawke> Wow, it's inching towards 189967 but I think I've got it set at 189968.
[02:03] <+MarieHawke> YES
[02:04] <+MarieHawke> 2114.6 m/s
[02:04] <+MarieHawke> WOW
[02:04] <+MarieHawke> I'M WITHIN 1 M/S AT APOKER AND PERIKER
[02:04] <+MarieHawke> I AM GOOD
[02:04] <+Belkaland> lol
[02:06] <+MarieHawke> Average altitude 190162 m, average velocity 2114.1 m/s.
[02:07] <+MarieHawke> Percent circularity: 99.8976.

I've fucking won

The rocket I used is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xvQc79CFTQ but the download link doesn't work as a ship in 0.8.2, and you'll need additional parts, too. Luckily, this ship is easy to replicate.

Go on official forums and download the Joyeuse Industries package http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=143.0 and you can replicate this machine. I still have enough fuel to deorbit no problem.

Gonna leave it on overnight to see how stable this is biggrin.gif

Seeing Caz's pics reminds me of my last rocket. 600km i believe it was. 20mins on the way out lol.

EDIT:
http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss135/U...ent=Kerbal2.png

Attempt to replicate my 600km flight. Forgot to put a decoupler between the SAS Module and the #2 fuel tank for the final stage.

Promptly put my guys in the spin cycle when the parachute deployed when the last engine kicked in.

Remedy? Remove Parachute.

Highest flight to date. I got better at this once I actually figured out that piloting was involved.

(also pictured: the remnants of my top liquid stage, left to float forever in kerbal space.)

e: Got up to 62,000m. Lesson learned: don't deploy parachute until you need to.
e2: adding a second fuel tank pushed me up to almost 350 km pip pip

pfff that liquid stage is going to come right back down to Kearth pretty soon

My orbiting stage is still orbiting. Computer restarted itself, though, before I could take a screenshot.

Oh well. I love this game.

How do you control these things?
For some reason my rockets are either: a) so sluggish that they barely respond to commands even when I am holding the key down for several seconds or cool.gif react to a fraction of a second of a touch.

Also, for some reason rockets just tend to start tipping over on their own all of a sudden without any input from me. WTH?

This said, epic fun.

Step 1 - The Great Leader draws a picture of what he wants and gives it to the designers with the words: "Make a good X out of this."
Step 2 - The designers than go and do their best to make something that works and still looks mostly like what the Great Leader drew.
Step 3 - Once finished with that, throw it away and make something that actually works.

Rockets are finicky depending on how much thrust is there.

My best flight so far.

Quit it before it landed back on Kearth, made it to the farthest point though.

Unfortunately i accidently deleted the rocket i did this with. Will remake with a extra liquid stage for more goodies!
