Lamonian Naval Academy

user posted image

The Lamonian Naval Academy is a four year co-educational facility located near the large Lamonian city of Karakan. The Academy has a mission to physically and mentally prepare officer candidates to become commissioned naval officers. The Naval Academy must not be confused with the Lamonian Naval War College, which trains officers for their own commands.

Students at the Naval Academy are officially known as Officer Cadets. At graduation, each Officer Cadet receives a bachelors degree in military or engineering science. They also receive a commission into the Lamonian Navy (or if foreign), into the navy of their respective nation.

History

The Lamonian Naval Academy's foundations were laid in 1850, when it was realized that a trained and competent officer corps was essential in naval warfare. Observing the naval academies of various other nations in the years leading up to 1855 helped to start a course characterized by plane geometry, naval strategy, and navigation. These initial courses lasted for three months, and were run on board older Galleons near Karakan.

The temporary course turned into a continuous education on land with the establishment of the Naval College in July 3, 1876. With growing number of cadets, the college building was extended. On April 14, 1884, the college, renamed the Naval Engineering School, started its education for three years in the new building. From 1884 on, the training was divided into navigation and cartography for officers of the deck, and naval architecture and shipbuilding for naval engineers.

Over time, the Naval Engineering School would expand and improve the classes offered, as both the number of applicants, and the technology of the period increased. Starting in 1924, three different fields of study were available from the newly named Lamonian Naval Academy. These fields were navigation, engineering, and secretarial work. Deck officers and engineers received four years of advanced instruction, while those who took the secretarial path only received three years of advanced instruction.

In 1939, the secretarial path was dropped, and only the deck officer and engineering paths were retained, both of them being four year paths of instruction. The Lamonian Naval Academy is accredited by the Lamonian Military Education board, which holds the academy to the strictest possible academic standards.

Karakan Campus

The Karakan Campus is situated on a twenty four square kilometer piece of land on the Kortan Peninsula, on the coast. Over time, some of the older buildings would be preserved for historical purposes, while they were more often taken down in order to clear the way for newer facilities to be constructed. The original building still stands, and has been maintained over the years as a historical museum for the academy.

The huge campus includes student housing buildings, which are much like college dorms in civilian life. Various dining halls have also been included on the campus, as well as a large library, and other needed facilities which are required for a campus of this size.

Women and Foreigners

Women were first admitted to the Lamonian Naval Academy in the 1960-1961 academic year, but must pass the same academic, mental, and physical testing as is administered to men.

Foreigners were first admitted to the Lamonian Naval Academy in the 1970-1971 academic year, as per the terms of military training cooperation agreements signed with friendly and allied countries. As with women, foreign students must pass the same academic, mental, and physical testing as is administered to Lamonian cadets.

Entry

The Lamonian Naval Academy accepts applicants from both Lamoni, as well as from other nations. All applicants must complete the Lamonian Standardized Military Academic Examination with a score of one hundred eighty points or higher as part of the application process. The LSMAE has a total of two hundred possible points. Prospective cadets then proceed to the Admiralty Interview Board, where they are tested mentally and physically. Several mental aptitude tests are administered, along with a basic physical fitness test and a medical examination.

All foreign applicants must additionally submit documentation from the government of their nation, stating why they think that the applicant would be a good fit for the academy. The student's government must also pay for the student's tuition, room, board, and other expenses while the student is attending the academy. The payment requirement can be waived with the permission of the Lamonian government. Foreign students from a nation having a military training cooperation agreement with the Lamonian government have priority over foreign students from nations who do not have such an agreement in place. Mastery of the English language is not a requirement for admission, however cadets who do not speak the language will be required to take English language classes at the Academy until they become proficient in the language.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_rules_football you should replace "American football" with this. AFL is no sport for the military...

and basketball ought to be replaced with polo because basketball is a fucking faggy sport

baseball with cricket although thats just obviously a personal bias

Certainly. Lamoni and Skibereen could have a military training cooperation agreement as well, if you want.
