Lamonian Military Academy
![]() The Lamonian Military Academy is a four year co-educational facility located near the large Lamonian city of Karakan. The Academy has a mission to physically and mentally prepare officer candidates to become commissioned Army or Marine, or Police officers. The Military Academy must not be confused with the Lamonian Ground Forces War College, which trains officers for their own commands. Students at the Military Academy are officially known as Officer Cadets. At the time of completion of their undergraduate studies, each Officer Cadet receives a bachelors degree in respective academic field. History Founded in 1841, the Lamonian Military Academy arose from the need for a better trained officer corps for the ground forces. It was originally a two year affair, training officers in strategy, tactics, logistics, and other needed branches of study for their particular branch of service. The change from two years of instruction to three years of instruction came in 1920, while it was expanded to four years of instruction in 1974. It had been decided to train Army, Police, and Marine officers at the same location, due to the similar nature of their jobs, which involved ground combat. Various other Marine officers were trained at the Naval and Air Force academies, dependent on their chosen service path. Karakan Campus Situated on the grounds of Fort Panorama near Karakan, the Lamonian Military Academy sits on a twenty four square kilometer piece of land, just like the other nearby Lamonian service academies. Over time, some of the older buildings would be preserved for historical purposes, while they were more often taken down in order to clear the way for newer facilities to be constructed. The huge campus includes student housing buildings, which are much like college dorms in civilian life. Various dining halls have also been included on the campus, as well as a large library, and other needed facilities which are required for a campus of this size. Women and Foreigners Women were first admitted to the Lamonian Military Academy in the 1960-1961 academic year according to Lamonian law, but must pass the same academic, mental, and physical testing as is administered to men. Foreigners were first admitted to the Lamonian Military Academy in the 1970-1971 academic year, as per the terms of military training cooperation agreements signed with friendly and allied countries. As with women, foreign students must pass the same academic, mental, and physical testing as is administered to Lamonian cadets. Entry The Lamonian Military Academy accepts applicants from both Lamoni, as well as from other nations. All applicants must complete the Lamonian Standardized Military Academic Examination with a score of one hundred eighty points or higher as part of the application process. The LSMAE has a total of two hundred possible points. Prospective cadets then proceed to the Ground General Interview Board, where they are tested mentally and physically. Several mental aptitude tests are administered, along with a basic physical fitness test and a medical examination. All foreign applicants must additionally submit documentation from the government of their nation, stating why they think that the applicant would be a good fit for the academy. The student's government must also pay for the student's tuition, room, board, and other expenses while the student is attending the academy. The payment requirement can be waived with the permission of the Lamonian government. Foreign students from a nation having a military training cooperation agreement with the Lamonian government have priority over foreign students from nations who do not have such an agreement in place. Mastery of the English language is not a requirement for admission, however cadets who do not speak the language will be required to take English language classes at the Academy until they become proficient in the language. Undergraduate Programs For Undergraduate Programs, the Lamonian Military Academy has the following academic departments, allowing for graduates to be able to use the classes therein to apply their newly learned skills to real world situations, where these skills are likely to see daily use. Each officer cadet will take classes from each of the academic departments, giving them a well-rounded military education, which serves to enable them to make better choices during the course of their career. 1.) Operative Department * Military Studies * Leadership * Land Power 2.) Engineering Department * Mathematics * Statistics * Physics * Chemistry * Information Technology * Civil Engineering 3.) Logistics Department * Introduction to Accounting * Managerial Accounting * Resource Management * Administrative Computing * Public Finances * Economics * Logistics Strategy * Consumer and Production Logistics * Procurement and contracting * Jurisprudence * Transport Law Graduate Studies Once the officer cadet has finished their undergraduate studies, it is time for them to select a branch of service in which they would like to serve. They will then take classes specific to their chosen branch of service from the following academic departments. * Department of Aeronautical Engineering * Department of Electronic Engineering * Department of Computer Engineering * Department of Industrial Engineering * Department of Applied Sciences * Department of Military And Social Sciences * Department of Foreign Languages * Department of Administrative Science * Department of Military Intelligence * Department of Social Sciences * Department of Foreign Languages * Department of Industrial Engineering * Department of Mechanical Engineering * Department of Computer Engineering * Department of Electric/Electronics Engineering * Department of Infantry Studies * Department of Armored Studies * Department of Artillery Studies * Department of Naval Infantry Studies * Department of Military Medicine * Department of Military and Civilian Police At the time of completion of their Graduate Studies, the officer candidate receives a Master's Degree in their chosen academic field. They also receive a commission into the Lamonian Army, National Police, or Marines, or if foreign, then into the Army, Police, or Marines of their respective nation. Physical Training The Academy trains officer cadets both physically and psychologically for demanding situations that they will face. The Physical Training Department leads every officer cadet in Physical Training every morning before breakfast. It also aims to get the officer cadets to enjoy doing sports, to contribute to the physical development of the officer cadets, to ensure the cadets consider sports as a way of life and do sports of their own volition, and to teach cadets the sports techniques needed to do sports by themselves. The sports branches in the Lamonian Military Academy are: * Soccer * Sport Swimming * Rugby * Baseball * Track and Field * Basketball * Boxing * Ice Hockey * Water Polo * Tennis * Volleyball * Fencing These policies have been put in place so that the officer cadets exercise both their bodies, as well as their minds, resulting in healthier life habits. Officer Cadet Life at the Academy The academy is made up of officer cadet battalions, named after famous military campaigns. Four officer Cadet battalions form an officer cadet regiment. Each battalion has a separate building, which contains a number of facilities including barracks, dining halls, classrooms, day rooms and study rooms. The cadet regiment has a cadet chain of command which rotates during the school year. The cadet regiment also has a chain of command of Lamonian Army officers in mentoring and leadership roles. The academy's commander is a very prestigious position and usually precludes a higher position within the Lamonian Army. The cadets are distinguishable and organized by their graduating class as well as their cadet unit. In their classroom uniform, each cadet wears a thin gold bar on their epilate for each year they have been at the academy. Senior cadets, with four bars, also wear the color of the branch that they will be entering upon graduation on their collar. For example, green for infantry and gray for armor. The under three classes wear blue on their collar which signifies that they have not yet chosen a branch. The cadet also wears an identification number, a eight digit number issued upon entrance to the academy. The cadet uniform is the same as the Lamonian LDPCU field uniform (woodland camouflage variant), with the exception of two solid red epilates on their shoulders, which serve to distinguish the wearer as an officer cadet. These epilates can be removed for field training, if required, but must otherwise be worn. Extracurricular Activities While it is not required for Cadets to join one of the extracurricular clubs at the academy, Cadets are encouraged to do so, so that they might mix and match with other cadets whom they might not otherwise do so. The current list of extracurricular clubs and sports offered by the Lamonian Military Academy include: * Culture and Literature Club * Theater Club * Naval History Club * Model Ships Club * Music Club * Art Club * Science & Technology Club * Photography Club * Cinema Club * Computer Club * Chess Club * Dance Club * Foreign Languages Club * Competition Shooting Club --------------------
