So... fortified lines of firebases acting in mutual support with large manuver elements to engage, encircle, and harass invading armies in the field, amiright?

Basically, yeah.
After I get home tomorrow (or today, however you look at it) I'll work on this (with research) and also use ToT to make some important additions to the HAV-2. -------------------- One day, I will actually know what the fuck I'm talking about. I've myself been working on some sort of defensive line, though I've been thinking of using fast moving artillery and CAS aircraft along with light infantry supported by engineers to work on some sort of Scorched Earth policy and an advance to the rear type withdraw, trying to avoid allot of losses while taking away whatever strategic value targets the enemy would need to use, then once heavier and more numbersome support arrives, start a slow moving counter-attack then work it into a full-blown offensive with a long-term goal of either the border or into the enemies homeland is possible.
All the while I'd be fighting for air dominance so that I could run carpet bombings over enemy supply routes and using guided munitions to take out depots and supply dumps in cities and former military installations. --------------------

As a suggestion, you could dig the grand canyon along your border, however even such an anti-tank ditch could be collapsed by high power bombs.
