D.I.L.A., An Idea that probably won't work. But as

D.I.L.A. Stands for Directed Ionizing Laser Array. It was an idea i got a few weeks back and just remembered it.

It's an orbital array of 1 or more stations that fire Lasers through the atmosphere for the purpose of forming super cells above an enemy city. Creating massive storm's and hellish weather around.

Now for my big question. Would it work at all?

why can't you just vaporize the city instead

We can do that to but why kill everyone when you can scare the hell out of em?

Oh no, rain! What ever will they do to protect themselves from this horror!

It'd be a wee bit more sever then that i would think.

Egad, they better just surrender now before it gets worse, who knows what other monstrosities might be waiting in the Biopian's arsenals! Maybe even hail! Or god forbid, snow!

Diverting a comet would devastate the biosphere fyi.

If you have a giant array of orbiting lasers, why not just carve your initials into their cities in 500 meter wide letters?

It's a bad idea conjured up with a somewhat wrongheaded notion of how storm systems form that would be inefficient anyway.

Why not park a multi-terrawatt particle-beam cannon in polar orbit and irradiate the planet like one of those ultra-compact rotisary pizzia-ovens?

You could even interupt the irradiation-process to leave some places relativelty intact (to people that signed the peace-treaty), which of course will encourage infighting once they realize the radiation will hose them all if it gets dense enough.
