So, today I was reading naruto forums and discovered a hate post. I thought it was just some stupid poster, but why is it I couldn't agree more with him?

I have to disagree entirely. In Naruto Part I, the characters were not nearly so one-dimensional. In Shippuuden, they are at times, and other times not, but in Part I, Naruto had serious depth. That's the reason we all started watching it, and whether or not it's anywhere near as good now, we are watching/reading it because we loved what it once was.
Sakura was after Sasuke, yeah, but by the Chuunin exam, she wasn't just a little girl after a guy, she wanted to prove to herself that she could be more. She watched her friends as they got stronger, were assigned more dangerous missions, and she wanted to be there to help them. Naruto was faced with irrational hatred everywhere he went. He didn't succumb to it, he resolved to make himself into someone important. He earned the friendship of his team over time, proving that even though he was known as a failure, he could achieve greatness. He met others like himself along his journey, and even though the origins of their misery were different, Naruto identified with them and showed them to choose their own destiny. Sasuke was always after revenge, but he watched out for his team and he was very torn at the end between Orochimaru's path and leaving his friends. Sasuke didn't give up training for evil, he chose the curse seal to supplement training, as shown by the fact that he continued to improve the Chidori through enhanced shape manipulation rather than just going CS2 and balls-to-the-wall on his enemies. So yeah, you can summarize the Naruto series in a parodic manner with what you posted. That doesn't make it accurate. That's just taking a predominate trait and ignoring everything else the character experiences. |
