QUOTE (ekny)
But the second shot (G/A on beach)--to me, that could be anything, any couple; it's generic, they could be discussing the cost of installing a new pellet heater that winter.

But it can't be viewed in isolation. In conjunction with the first still, this second one is relatively suggestive, of a mutual caring and intimacy and mournfulness, which is perhaps a result of the angtsy atmosphere of the first still. Especially in contrast with the Lesli Kaye/CC still, which doesn't have much feeling going on at all.

The money/subscription thing came up again for Venice. Bare with me. Read from the bottom up. CC poses the question, "Would you pay $9.99 for a season?" Read tweets as the first part is the question or comment to CC. Her response follows the </>. The fans will pay.

That's pretty fascinating, especially the bit where she basically says if people don't pay, then no S2. She didn't say exactly that--perhaps she meant if they don't generate revenue in some manner, then no S2, but that's not how it read given the space limitations of a tweet.

My initial reactions are:
1. I guess panties don't quite cut it, eh?
2. Offering low res for free and high res plus extras for a subscription fee is probably a wise move. The low res will be enough for the non-rabids and new viewers, and the fanatics will pay. And if it's good enough, some non-rabids will turn into fanatics, and they'll generate even more revenue.

I had another thought about Venice last week, and it actually connects to the main topic of this board. See, what happened was, I saw the revival of the musical "Ragtime" which is one of my favorite musicals (and this revival playing on Broadway right now is particularly exquisite). Anyway, the opening number of Ragtime is like everything the opening number of Bad Girls the Musical should have been and wasn't. And it reminded me that BG the Musical could have been great, and wasn't. Why? Because of nepotism and lack of talent. Chad basically gave it to her girlfriend as a gift, because her girlfriend couldn't ever write a West End musical on her own merits. And so what we got was a piece of hack work with basically no artistry in it. Which still makes me sad/mad, because I think the source material is perfect for a musical.

Anyway, doesn't this sound a tiny bit familiar? Person with clout and success gives loved one an opportunity to actually WRITE and be produced, but doesn't have the perspective that said loved one actually isn't very talented. And thus what could have been great winds up being utter shlock and a total waste.

I'm hoping Venice doesn't follow the path of BGtM, but it does seem eerily similar.

And the hits keep on coming....a KimmyT tweet they received over 500 music submissions for the webseries. Ok, now I'm impressed, regardless of the quality. Talk about being able to take your pick.

I got more the impression CC's tweet "no$ noS2" was more general beyond getting money from the fans as in still pursuing sponsorship, minimal if needs be. I suppose CC figures they can depend on the kindness of friends and strangers only so long before they want/need to be paid. Beyond that, CC tweeted TV already decided about the pay thing....announcement to be coming.

btw, the price of panties has gone up. lol.

I'm really happy that Crystal Chappel is back on Days Of Our Lives. I didn't watch the show in the 1990's, I watched All My Children and Another World which is now cancelled.

I think that CC is so clever and smart to do a show like this and thanks to the Internet and Youtube, she's going to get many more fans.

Since Daytime TV in the US is s Shell of it's former self, it's great to know that she has other "Irons" in the fire.

Oh, for the British Fans, did any of you ever watch her work on Days Of Our Lives in the 1990's, Subscribe to Annieqc74 on Youtube, and you'll see what an amazing actress she is.

Hey do you guys know that alot of fans would love for her to play The Helen Stewart Character if there is ever a US Version of Bad Girls, I think she'd be great!!

Thought I posted this last night, but guess not....

I imagine this major announcement is Venice premier date in conjunction with subscription viewing tiers. That would be tonight.

Found this today...pantygate, the gift that keeps on giving cracks me up. Whatever it takes I suppose. I really don't mind.

Okay. No dialog, but based on this I'd hand over 10 bucks. I like that it's mostly medium shots or closeups.

See 1 minute promo for season 1 here. To start Dec 4th. Music by Jen Foster.

Certainly - I've handed over close to $9.99 for films of lesser quality that come with fabulous sound editing.

I was most impressed by the outdoor shooting - that is not something I've seen a lot of in my webseries forays. But until there's some story to go with, it looks strongly to me, possibly especially because the actors and their characters are now so conflated, media-wise, like a bunch of straight girls behaving in ways that might, until the proper circumstances, look gay but do not definitely read lesbian from the get-go.

Did anyone come away with a sense of the story? All I got was: JL is a friend to CC; Dad has a religious streak and there are several other characters who mean nothing to me. And there are nice sunsets at the beach.

I agree I'd pay. What the hay. I should donate to Plan V as well. Put my money where my mouth is.

The preview didn't show the conflict quite as much as I expected. I kind of thought we'd see some rageful, explosive kinds of scene, you know, like to give it a rhythm. But perhaps those aren't edited yet? Good use of music so far.

That's what I expected all along, so no surprises there. (Honestly, I don't see how anyone could expect different, given the people involved.) Technically it was better than competent (assuming sound also follows suit). Don't think we're supposed to get story--still the biggest question/variable--just atmosphere. Which it did with reasonable success. Got no vibe off anyone other than CC & JL. (NB apparently is of the fixed-stare = lesbian interest school of acting. Predatory much? me = bored.) Otherwise... seemed fine, and did what it was supposed to--and no more. Which is as it should be: why it's called teaser.

If it's technically competent, the camerawork continues to be properly-lit & not shaky, and the story is halfway adequate, don't see why it won't do well. In the end the story is what matters; I don't care about these people's husbands or babies or cup-sizes or interviews, &tc. Any of it. I just want some halfway decent product. If they deliver that--good on them. If not--all that's led up to this is irrelevant, except as a topic for post-game dissection.

Anyone know what they're filming in? DV? Doesn't look it, but maybe digital has vastly improved since last I checked...?

Agreed. Not my cuppa but appropriate & not-odious. laugh.gif

eta2: make-up's too heavy on everyone. Less would = more realistic. Which given the excess of pretty is unlikely, I realize. But this just looked gloppy on almost everyone.
