Title: My Cube

norbert88 - May 30, 2009 06:23 AM (GMT)
I've pretty much finished my cube at this point, still a few proxies but close enough.. I should be receiving the sleeves and putting it together within the next week. Here is a link to my cube list: http://www.cubedrafting.com/forum/download/file.php?id=175 Let me know what you think.

Daedramaster - May 30, 2009 07:00 AM (GMT)

Someone on the Cube Forum made this awesome site http://metacortex.hu/~fable/generate.html which generates drafts from a plain text file. The site creates separate links for each player to draft with. So if enough of us were online at the same time we could pull this off. Or we could just draft it irl :o Pretty cool site though.

DavinciCoder - August 19, 2009 02:31 AM (GMT)
Heh, the guys here drafted my cube tonight, 5$ entry, 4-2-2-1 pack prizes. I took down the draft with mono-blue storm!

Check out this turn 6 after Mana Draining my opponents tezzeret (he had a master of etherium on the table):

Untap with Island Island Island Simic Growth Chamber

Play Island, play Masticore, 1 colorless floating, cast Time Spiral, floating U. Mox Sapphire, play Minds Desire for four, flip up land, treachery, remand, remand the original minds desire before it goes off, draw merchant scroll. Play treachery on the Master, then cast Minds desire again, for seven. Flip up Triskelion, Memory Jar, Sol Ring, four lands. Play the sol ring, triskelion, jar, jar into brain freeze, freeze for 33 cards for exactly enough (he was playing a big deck). Exactly enough wasn't necessary since I wasn't dying next turn or anything, but it was hilarious.

Also, Gelectrode?

norbert88 - August 19, 2009 02:40 AM (GMT)
Must be nice having players who actually want to cube draft.

Anyways, Gelectrode is fairly popular on the MTGSalvation Cube forums. U/R is one of the weaker gold combinations and its probably the last slot for U/R. But its definitely worth trying out. U/R tends to play a lot of instants and sorceries and Gelectrode fits in fairly well.

Jon, I want to play Cube so bad.

When I get back next semester we will play Cube until I vomit. From all the awesome.

That is both a promise and a guarantee.

norbert88 - November 8, 2009 12:33 AM (GMT)
Awesome. I figured we would have a lot more interest with you and Noah coming back. We haven't had much interest so far this semester and we haven't done much since those 23 cards went missing from my Cube..

The Duressed - November 8, 2009 07:23 PM (GMT)
Cube draft last night was pretty sweet, actually. I wonder how we went from having like 4 people wanting to do it every time to getting a 10-man. Probably Barna's fault.

norbert88 - November 9, 2009 04:26 AM (GMT)
For those of you who were at the HUB Saturday night, Mission Accomplished! 0 cards went missing during our 10-man Cube Draft (Largely because I drafted the Baneslayer Angel myself ;) )

norbert88 - November 22, 2009 06:32 AM (GMT)
Now that we've had a few weeks to play with Zendikar in Standard, Limited, and Extended, what do you guys think about the following cards in Cube?:

Emeria Angel
Journey to Nowhere
Kor Sanctifiers
Kor Skyfisher
Luminarch Ascension
Steppe Lynx

Hedron Crab
Rite of Replication
Sphinx of Jwar Isle
Sphinx of Lost Truths

Bloodchief Ascension
Bloodghast
Disfigure
Gatekeeper of Malakir
Vampire Nighthawk

Goblin Bushwhacker
Goblin Ruinblaster
Obsidian Fireheart
Plated Geopede

Oracle of Mul Daya
Rampaging Baloths
Scute Mob

(Note: I haven't added any of these to my Cube yet)
Feel free to comment on all of them or just list the ones you think should be added.

DavinciCoder - November 22, 2009 05:21 PM (GMT)
I think some of these do indeed deserve to be added, but not all, I'd say:

Emeria Angel
Kor Skyfisher //maybe
Luminarch Ascension
Steppe Lynx

Hedron Crab
Sphinx of Jwar Isle

Bloodghast
Gatekeeper of Malakir
Vampire Nighthawk

Goblin Ruinblaster
Plated Geopede

Oracle of Mul Daya
Rampaging Baloths //maybe
Scute Mob

Emeria Angel-A solid creature. I am not sure what you would take out for it, but it meets the power level criteria.

Journey to Nowhere-It is good in limited, but cube is closer to constructed than limited. It is much worse than Path to Exile and Swords to Plowshares, and given the strength of artifacts, enchantments, and planeswalkers I feel it is worse than Oblivion Ring and possibly Faith's Fetters as well. It is a good card, but it seems like there are better things than it.

Kor Sanctifiers-I really like this card for cube. I feel it would be much better because of the multiple powerful artifacts and enchantments.

Luminarch Ascension-If your opponent goes four turns without damaging you, aren't you already winning? This is a very narrow card, and I feel like it would only really be good in the control mirror. Given how deep white is, I don't think it is good enough to displace anything currently in the cube.

Kor Skyfisher and Steppe Lynx-There are just so many good small creatures in white, that I do not see these two making it in. Steppe lynx can do more damage than the current one drops with the fetchlands, but those are so heavily drafted you will rarely get more than one or two. Kor Skyfisher is good, but white two-drops have always been some of the best in the game (and it is no Eight and a Half Tales) so I am not sure if it would be better than what is currently in.

Hedron Crab-No.

Rite of Replication-It’s a good card, but it is blue. Blue is so strong in cube, that I do not think "good" is good enough.

The Sphinxes-Yes. I think it may be time for Morphline to leave the cube. He is great and historical and all, but the new rules changes have made him significantly weaker. Sphinx of Jwar Isle is a big improvement over him. Sphinx of Lost Truths is also great, as it can be a great control, combo, or reanimator card.

Bloodchief Ascension- It is not fast enough for the good aggro black decks, and there are better options for the control ones. I just don’t see it fitting into any of the black decks, and it is not good enough to build a deck around.

Bloodghast-This one could have some interesting interactions. I am not sure if it would be powerful enough to stay, but think it is worth a test run.

Disfigure- Black has much better removal (Contagion comes to mind). It simply isn’t strong enough to make it as black removal.

Gatekeeper- Too color intensive for what it does in cube. If I am paying BBB, I want a card that wins me the game (like Necropotence). Even Necro goes late and gets cut sometimes because of its mana intensity, and Gatekeeper is much, much worse.

Vampire Nighthawk-This creature can fill a void for the black aggro decks. He is a small creature that is actually good against other fast decks. Black doesn't get those much.

Goblin Ruinblaster- Awesome in cube, simply awesome. As many non-basics as everyone plays, he will almost always have a target (which makes him a better Avalanch Riders).

Obsidian Fireheart-Too color intensive.

Oracle of Mul Daya-No. Too expensive for what it does. It is still awesome in limited, but cube is much stronger than Zen-Zen-Zen.

Rampaging Baloths-I like this card. It is expensive, but the ability to get out of control quick makes it very good. It does what big creatures need to do, it says "remove me now or lose"

Scute Mob-Just not good enough. It says "remove me in two or three turns, or start chumpblocking."

norbert88 - November 24, 2009 04:59 AM (GMT)
A few changes:

- Hallowed Burial
- Spectral Lynx
- Prison Term
+ Emeria Angel
+ Journey to Nowhere
+ Kor Sanctifiers

- Desertion
- Trinket Mage
+ Sphinx of Lost Truths
+ Sphinx of Jwar Isle

- Phyrexian Plaguelord
+ Vampire Nighthawk

- Hearth Kami
+ Hellkite Charger

- Scythe Tiger
+ Ant Queen

- Void
+ Blightning

TykiMikk - November 24, 2009 12:36 PM (GMT)
I always liked Spectral Lynx. It had such a bizarre warping of the color pie that it just struck me as unique. Some Legacy decks run it because it can chump Goyf all day, too.

Ivar - November 24, 2009 05:49 PM (GMT)
sounds like some awful legacy deck if your goal is to run lynx because otherwise you just lose to goyf

TykiMikk - November 24, 2009 07:26 PM (GMT)
I've seen it run in Legacy rock decks because it's great for the Zoo matchup because it can chump Nacatls / Pridemages / Goyfs.

Tech against a popular deck like Zoo isn't awful, but practical. The same way Legacy Burn maindecks Price of Progress, just like so much of the Legacy meta is Goyf, so much of it is nonbasic lands.

Techy cards are situational but can be extremely effective when used properly.

But hey, if you don't love a white creature with protection from green that takes black mana to regenerate it, that's on you. :P

Seems like some pretty solid changes. I don't really agree with cutting Trinket Mage though. He is such a solid guy in this format and definitely better than Sphinx of Lost Truths.

Also, I can't imagine Hellkite Charger being good enough. To my knowledge he has never really seen play anywhere, and, since this is cube, I'd rather have the slightly less good but way more iconic Shivan Dragon in its place (that is, unless he is already in there of course).

As far as Void goes, I had to cut it from my cube too, as much as it pained me. I caught a lot of flack for cutting it, but it really was the only way to maintain color balance with the gold cards.

norbert88 - November 25, 2009 10:03 PM (GMT)
Hellkite Charger doesn't really seem that good since its not played in T2, but noone questions Rorix Bladewing which is the same cmc but more red intensive for 1 more power, and Hellkite Charger has another ability. I saw it in a few cube lists so I'm trying it out.

Trinket Mage seems like it should be in the cube, but it really doesn't find that much, it finds Moxen, Sol Ring, Sensei's Divining Top, Skullclamp, and a few other notables. Maybe it would be better if I added the 5 artifact lands.

Yeah, Void isn't really that good, and with Blightning seeing so much play in Standard, its high time it made it in the Cube.

What do you think about Knight of the Reliquary and Enlisted Wurm for Cube? The GW section is really deep and it already has 8, I could theoretically expand it, but I don't know what I would cut from the current GW section.

PhantasyHero22 - November 25, 2009 10:33 PM (GMT)
All Trinket Mage needs to find is Sensei's Top or Skullclamp and he's done his job perfectly.

You cut Hearth Kami and that makes me mad
<3 Kamigawa

I would probably put Knight of the Reliquary in but not Enlisted Wurm.

norbert88 - March 13, 2010 10:46 PM (GMT)
I cut the 6 worst nonbasic lands and added the Zendikar manlands and Grand Coliseum. Here's my updated list: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment....70&d=1268520333
