Here's thought #1, courtesy of Steve Menendian:
"To my credit, I did strategically use fetchlands to ensure that his fateseal wasn’t keeping bad cards on top of my library, and played to my outs (one of which hit!)." Fetching after a fateseal to increase your chances of LUCKSACKING YOUR OPPONENT'S PANTS OFF?!?! Genius. And the deck: Business (36) 4 Force of Will 3 Mental Misstep 2 Flusterstorm 1 Nihil Spellbomb 2 Mana Drain 2 Goblin Welder 3 Baleful Strix 4 Dark Confidant 1 Sensei’s Divining Top 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Brainstorm 1 Ponder 1 Time Walk 1 Thirst For Knowledge 2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Tinker 1 Blightsteel Colossus 1 Time Vault 1 Voltaic Key 1 Yawgmoth’s Will Mana Sources (24) 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mana Crypt 1 Sol Ring 1 Tolarian Academy 4 Scalding Tarn 2 Polluted Delta 2 Misty Rainforest 3 Underground Sea 3 Volcanic Island 1 Island Sideboard (15) 3 Nihil Spellbomb 3 Grafdigger’s Cage 2 Flusterstorm 2 Lightning Bolt 3 Ingot Chewer 1 Mountain 1 Trinisphere I think there's a lot to like here: Bob is always fun, especially with his friend Welder. I think I like the Baleful Strix interaction, although I'm not sure it's as good against Shops as Herr Menendian wants us to believe. The combination of that and Welder just might be, however. I like being able to cast TFK with some form of reliability. With 6 x Black cards that you WANT to be palying against Mishra, I think a Swamp wouldn't be out of the question. Baleful Strix can be cute against those pesky Fishy creatures as well. Yay Deathtouch! I also have a Wizards Fishy list built; I'll post that later EDIT: Here's Steve's tourney report.. I'm not sure he understands how GOOD LANDSTILL works, because his analysis fails spectacularly -- Josh's Landstill loves 1 toughness creatures and when opponents overextend permanents with the same casting cost (see: Engineered Explosives.) |

If you're seriously considering this style of deck, I'd recommend some version of Keeper. Baleful Strix looks cute more than anything and not something that I really want to be playing.
