Title: The Blues Brothers

Lord_Ackbar - April 12, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
You know it was only a matter of time before I started this thread. '
Anyways, I think this is one of the greates comedies and musicals of all time. Anyone esle see it?
For those of you who haven't, it stars Dan Aykroyd and the late and great John Belushi as Elwood and Jake Blues. Jake, recently released from prison, is taken to the orphanage where he and his brother grew up. The two discover that the orphanage will close down unless its $1100 property tax is payed. The two decide to reunite their old band and try to raise the money to save the orphanage, all the while being chased by the police, Neo-Nazis, and an angry Country-Western Band.

It features appearances by Frank Oz, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Candy, Stephen Speilberg, and many more. If you haven't seen it, watch it!

You shock me, Ackbar, you completely overlooked Carrie Fisher & her repeated attempts to kill them/Jake.

Lord_Ackbar - April 12, 2006 12:39 AM (GMT)
crap! I had a feeling I had forgotten someone!

It's a modern classic and well worth seeing at least once.

I need to re-watch it sometime, there's a lot I don't remember about it.

Ackbar, you're obviously a big fan, what is it about this movie you love so much?

Imperial Officer - April 14, 2006 01:12 AM (GMT)
There's a lot to like about it empy, I mean the songs the comedy the action... it's every movie in 1. If you like funny serious or any type of movie.. watch the Blues Brothers.

Lord_Ackbar - April 15, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure why I love it. I just do. I guess it's because of what Imperial Officer said--it kinda blends comediey, action, and musical numbers. I also thought it was really creative; it just wasn't like most movies.
I also love Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. I also the Blues Brothers' music. I find that a lot of people don't know that it was a real band founded by the two and it was around 2 or 3 years before the movie came out. The band is still around today and they'll be performing in Florida May 5th. I'm trying to get tickets.

Good luck, hope you get to see the show.

They started on Saturday Nigh Live, I believe. Were they simply playing first or were they doing the full Blues Brothers characters?

Lord_Ackbar - April 16, 2006 05:26 PM (GMT)
They played first, and their first appearance was indeed on SNL as the musical guest, the same night Carrie Fisher hosted. The full characters were based on a fictional biography in their first album.

sry for the double post but I found this video of their first performance if anyone's interested in watching it

One of the great comedy classics ever . . .

I was angry when it was #69 on Bravo's 100 Funniest Movies and Shrek somehow made it to #3. Shrek?! Come on!

empy - June 16, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
Newer movies are more easily remembered by the general population than many classics. Remember too that Shrek could be enjoyed by audenices of nearly any age, whereas Blues Brothers is more of a 20-50 type of thing.
